Marvel Media (Spoiler Thread)

Vibranium is kind of Wakanda's thing

Wakanda's vibranium comes from a meteor. It's conceivable that small chunks of the meteor broke off on atmospheric entry and landed elsewhere in Africa. It's hard to imagine that Howard Stark's research team discovered a hidden high-tech society, jacked a chunk of their most important strategic resource, never mentioned it to anyone, and nothing ever came of it. When Klaue jacked a bunch of their vibranium it was a Big Freaking Deal that ultimately led to the end of Wakandan isolationism.

This was low on my list of upcoming Marvel stuff, but after that trailer, I am so down.

Hah. We must have posted at the same time. My time stamp is actually older somehow? (Edit?)

Marvel's had good luck taking the comedic actors and making them leads.

I wonder if you went back in time and sat down the Kim's Convenience actors when that show started and told them "one of you is going to star in a Marvel movie, and one of you is going to be in Star Wars" if they'd have laughed you out of the room?

So does she turn into a dragon later in the movie?

I guess I can't watch action sequences in San Francisco without thinking about how it'll dick up traffic.

I felt quiet unimpressed. The action scenes seemed very choppy which is a pretty common technique when the actors are not very skilled but still. I guess if it is has good Marvel special effects and a good story I will be fine but if I want to watch well done action I will stick to other movies.

The way the trailer was edited at the end made me chuckle:

"Who are you?"

[Doesn't answer. Strikes kewl pose instead.]

Looks good though!

Also, San Francisco? Then the requisite MCU tie-in better involve X-Con Security Consultants.

Looks different from the usual MCU stuff, so I'm on board with this. Also looks to be a much more personal story, and those are always good for origin stories.

Akwafina as a female Michael Pena works for me somehow.

But will it tie in to the Faux Mandarin?

It had better. I needs more Slattery.

Bendis hinted she might be playing Abigail Brand. Could be wild speculation (probably)

Love the conclusion. The little gift from Wakanda is sick.

Wow. The last episode of F&THS really tied everything together amazingly well. I would not call it as good as Wandavision, because they are different shows completely and serve a different purpose. Like saying which is better, Ghostbusters or John Wick? For me, I can't compare them because, as movies, they are very different.

Wonder if the name change is going to be retroactive or if they're going to use it for a possible second season... oh forget it, they're doing a fourth Captain America movie.

They did a good job of wrapping up this story while leaving almost everyone available for more adventures (movies, TV, etc)

It was very much the most black affirming and strong Marvel movie which I appreciated . Between this and the asian focus of Shang Chi Marvel is slowly moving into diversity.

Enjoyed the ep and enjoyed the whole series.

Enjoyed this article about it 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier' Finale's Moment of Revolution

He's French Canadian.

Saw the Falcon finale. The first act was... fine. My big takeaway from it is that Sam now has the power of Being the Main Character. I'm fine with this. I like a good helping of ridiculous comic book action bullsh*t.

Just about everything after Sam's Big Speech was gold.

John Walker continues to be the literal worst. f*ck that guy.

Spoiler:

I could take or leave Sharon as the Power Broker. Seemed like a bit of a twist for the sake of a twist, but sure, whatevs, I'll go with it.

I dropped this show after the third episode because I just wasn't feeling it. I have been following the recaps though because, well, it's the MCU. I need to know the setup for the next piece of the universe.

Sam becoming Captain America might be a little predictable, but the predictable choice isn't the wrong choice. Not every story beat has to be a shocking twist. It works and I'm looking forward to seeing him in Captain America 4.

John Walker was the only character I had any interest in and I'm very happy I was wrong about his eventual fate. I was sure they'd turn him into some mustache-twirling villain and kill him off before the end, but instead they took a much more nuanced take with the character. I love it. I'd love for him to get his own Disney Plus show. He's a very complex character played by a great actor. There's so much story potential there.

And now we wait for Loki.

Yeah it's tough not to compare because both MCU Disney+ shows. But this was a much more traditional MCU action blockbuster, just stretched into 5+ hours. I probably enjoyed WandaVision more overall but this was pretty solid.

Val (JLD) was still so odd. I can't help wondering if she will make more sense after Black Widow.

Modok's up next actually, late May on Hulu

Just watched the last episode of Falcon and thought it was fine. Not bad but also felt like I was supposed to be feeling more than I did. Like, Sam's speech might have had more of an effect on me if I really had much of any idea what this vote they were about to take would have done and what not taking it would mean. I understand in vague generalities the conflict they were discussing, but the gestures towards explaining the blip and its consequences have never convinced me they thought through what they were doing in Endgame or ever had any idea to deal with the fallout. I think they clearly should've just handwaved it away and said please don't think about this! (Like, doesn't the whole MCU have to take place 5-ish years in the future now?) If the plan of this series was to make sense of that whole thing, well, mission not accomplished in my view.

In any case it was still a fun and engaging show, I like Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, Zemo was amusing at points, there were some good action scenes, Wyatt Russell is great (and I cannot tell you why I have a deep and abiding fondness for the character of

USAgent

but for some reason I do? At the very least the costume. I think it was one of those Marvel trading cards as a kid that for whatever reason caught my attention in some strange way.

I don't know how I feel about the Sharon Carter stuff? My guess right now (I'm spoilering just in case people are sensitive about this stuff, but I am purely guessing)

Spoiler:

is she's a Skrull who replaced Sharon? It's hard for me to imagine they take a heroic character from the comics and make her a villain instead, plus if they're making a Secret Invasion show, she's a good level of character for them to introduce and have someone kill early on only for her to un-shift back to Skrull form and set off some alarms for the heroes.

If not, I'm kind of not a fan of what they're doing, but eh, she was always going to be an odd fit in the MCU (in the comics we've had 50 years or so of dealing with her being Steve's girlfriend's little sister/niece/granddaughter/greatgranddaughter whatever it is these days, and it was very strange if you thought about it for a second but she was introduced so long ago she was just a cool spy and often Steve's girlfriend and it wasn't an issue. But to have Peggy be much more of a character, even moreso with Steve's ending with Peggy in Endgame (ya think Steve had an awkward conversation at some point about that kiss with Sharon or just kept it to himself for eternity?), Sharon Carter superspy/Steve's girlfriend was never gonna happen.

Anyway mostly this show just made me wish I could wear a jacket as well as Sebastian Stan does. God damn.

Blip was 2018, so yeah 2023. These two shows have both happened pretty soon post blip, as well as Far From Home. By the time actual phase 4 movies are in theaters we'll be nearly caught up.
