Marvel Media (Spoiler Thread)

The real culprits!!

Lady Gaga fans have declared war on Venom

This weekend, audiences have a choice. They can go see Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born or they can watch Tom Hardy in Venom. This may seem an inconsequential decision to many, but it is actually, we are starting to realize, a matter of near cosmological importance. There is darkness or light, up or down, Venom or A Star Is Born. This is no time for fence-sitting: the universe itself watches to see which of these two films will emerge triumphant at the box office.

Lady Gaga fans are not approaching this matter lightly, assembling a phalanx of glittery shields, donning their customary raw meat armor, and spreading negative reviews of Venom on Twitter in the hopes of, uh, making more people see A Star Is Born instead.

Would these happen to be fans in the Russian FSB, by any chance?

I just don't see a lot of area being covered by the overlapping circles of the Venn Diagram between those two movies. Not that some people wouldn't see both, but it should be easy to prioritize between the two based on preferences.

Definitely going to see this.

Venom Is a Surprisingly Solid Action Movie That Just Wants to Show You a Good Time

Venom strikes an imperfect balance between two extremes—sticking too close to, or straying too far from, Marvel’s source material. And that’s a testament to Sony’s belief that audiences are going to want to watch a charmingly-disheveled Tom Hardy murder and eat people in the name of twisted justice in this movie and any potential sequels.

Drifting away from the source material is always a risky gamble when it comes to comic book movies, especially when a film is trying to establish a character who’s meant to carry a franchise. Roam too far, and comics purists will dismiss a movie as fundamentally inauthentic. Come too close, and a movie becomes dense to the point of being a drag—and in Venom’s case, run into all kinds of legal complications that Sony’s probably trying to avoid.

Venom’s status as one of Marvel’s most popular and immediately-recognizable characters is precisely what makes Sony’s new standalone film about the complicated antihero such a curious puzzle to mull over. Of course Sony put him front and center in a film all about him—the studio would have been wildly irresponsible if it didn’t. At the same time, though, it’s undeniably odd to imagine a Venom story that doesn’t at all feature everyone’s favorite webhead.

I'd love it if this were true! He's one of my favs.

Wouldn't it be easy for people to claim that's not Daredevil due to the simple fact that he's clean shaven?

That's a great trailer; it's gonna be hard holding off till I've watched all the season two stuff.

Edit- Oh good god. They apparentlyjust brought the character back in the last few months! Holy sh*t Marvel.

When will they get to his greatest foe?"

I'm a little hopeful they will pull out the full Gladiator getup.

Love away, then, because Netflix has confirmed it!

Spoiler:

Casting releases have Wilson Bethel playing "Benjamin Poindexter," (aka Bullseye).

That's obviously Mart O'Murdock.

I'm not surprised but slightly disappointed.

An Irish Daredevil!? This is the last straw!

That's pretty on the nose. There's a mid-credits stinger that's completely unnecessary, though.

I just got back from seeing it and yeah, it's certainly a solid action movie. Overal, I really liked it. I wanted to see it before taking my kids to it, and I think they're just a little too young. I don't think the violence would bother them, as it was really toned down from how bad it could have been, but I think the first half of the movie would just bore them while the plot is being built. I'll wait for it to get digitally released and then let them watch it.

I probably like Venom a bit more than Spiderman, to be honest, and was a bit anxious considering the last time Venom was in a movie it was so spectacularly bad it was meme-worthy.

About the mid-credits scene (spoilers obviously):

Spoiler:

Going into this movie I really expected Carnage to be the main bad guy, but I felt they did well with Riot. Pushing Carnage back to the sequel is a good move, and casting Woody Harrelson I felt was f*cking brilliant. I'm really, really hyped to see him play a complete psychopath.

Wakanda Forever! Black Panther 2 Secures Ryan Coogler to Write and Direct

Marvel is going back to Wakanda and T’Challa won’t be the only leader taking the trip.

The Hollywood Reporter says, and io9 has also confirmed, that Ryan Coogler has closed a deal to both write and direct Black Panther 2. Apparently, the deal happened a while ago but is just now becoming public.

This should not really be a shock to anyone but it’s great news nonetheless. Black Panther is only the third film ever to gross over $700 million domestically; it’s also Marvel’s highest grossing film in that category as well. A sequel was always going to happen, it was just a matter of when and with whom. Everyone wanted Coogler to come back and, now, he will.

But what exactly is Black Panther 2? Isn’t T’Challa currently dead? The answers to those questions are we “We don’t know” and “Yes.” But hopefully, once the events of Avengers 4 are finished, we’ll have a better idea of what new stories will be told in Wakanda. And who better than the filmmaker who co-wrote and directed the mega-hit to tell them?

Checked out Marvel Rising and it was ok. The best part was Squirrel Girl. The worst part was the animation which was terrible but watchable.

Well it wasn't exactly well received. So does this mean the defenders is axed as well? Or do they just drop him from the team?

NM, thought they'd said there was no Defenders 2 in the works. But looking around, there have been quotes from some of the actors as recently as a couple of weeks ago.

I wonder if this is the reason they didn't advertise season 2.
