Marvel Media (Spoiler Thread)

That's... certainly an interesting choice.

It gives them a chance to have her be experienced without alot of history in our world.
I'll assume she ends up like a Marvel Green Lantern, being a space cop for 20 years.

Don't think they will go the comic route and have her be an amnesiac space pilot?

Ragnarok looks better and better. Love that they seem to be leaning in to the buddy comedy. With Taika Waititi in charge though that's no surprise. And I love Thor's threatened masculinity.

At first I was worried that Thor Ragnarok was moving too much into Guardians territory stylistically, but this looks so awesome I don't care.

Thinking about it more this change in style probably makes a lot of sense. They're trying to mesh Guardians into the rest of the MCU more since they'll be Infinity wars, so I bet this Thor movie will be a bridge of sorts since I have a feeling the Guardians will have a short cameo in here somewhere.

The Thor movies have been my least favorite of the MCU so far. Don't hate them, just don't necessarily love the way they handle Asgard. Don't know why, I just don't.

I even really like Thor as a character and how he's acted. Love him in all the other movies where he's not at home.

This looks much more fun to me. So I'll take it.

So based on that trailer it looks like Hulk fights both Fenrir and Surtur?
YES. Hulk beating up some of the biggest bads of Norse mythology is definitely a thing I need to see.

I am so hoping they explore the extent (or limitlessness) of Hulk's strength in this -- especially the link between how his anger feeds into even more strength.

Blonde Black Widow? Unacceptable!

The Excellent Defenders Is Greater Than the Sum of Its Parts

It sounds like an insult to say that The Defenders is exactly what you thought it would be, but it isn’t. It’s a show that’s very aware of the expectations put upon it and the problems encountered by the other Marvel Netflix shows, and it knows how to best utilize its cast and its time. In other words, it’s great.

Having seen the first four episodes of The Defenders, I can honestly say I was pretty pissed to not have been to able to watch the entire series. Now, granted, it’s usually in the second half of the season where Marvel Netflix shows have tended to flounder for a bit with filler; The Defenders only has eight episodes compared to the other series’ normal 13, which means it moves at a much faster clip than its predecessors—it doesn’t have any time to waste, which is a huge boon.

The shortened season brings with it a sense of urgency, but the extra length afforded to the TV series means that, unlike its silver screen sibling The Avengers, a lot more time can be devoted to showing these characters getting to know each other. The early distrust feels natural and so does the eventual teamwork. This is not a show that skimps on the banter, which is better than the action.

I'm all for the 8 episode arc.. Stranger Things was that much better for that exact reasons where I've felt all the Marvel series that have been 13 have really started to drag at times.

Ditto. It was painfully obvious in Daredevil S2 and Luke Cage that they have too much room to indulge in filler. Hopefully this is the new normal going forward.

After being left out of Civil War, Thor and Hulk make their own movie, with hookers and blackjack

Another brief clip for Inhumans was released that shows the dialogue between Medusa and PG-13 Ramsay Bolton. It was.... somehow, inexplicably, worse.

At this point, Marvel has one of two options:

1. Really, sh*t-can the whole thing. Which, they should.

2. Go the Gotham route and make it as absolutely stupid "so bad and so crazy and so unrelated to Batman, it's good."

I would have massive respect for Marvel if they did that.

A Sealab 2020 style overdubbing of the old Spider Man cartoons.

I'd watch it.

They should just Rifftrax Live it right at the debut at IMAX.

They have nothing to lose. Kevin Murphy would tear this apart and it would improve the show's perception.

I would watch the pants off of that cartoon.

Since, they can't bring back Grant Ward in Agents of SHIELD. Marvel did the next best thing they added another Ward to the cast. Jeff Ward has signed on in an unknown role.

Evangeline Lily is taking this whole superhero thing very seriously and she looks awesome.

I hope to see more of her beating up Paul Rudd.

First look at Domino and Cable from Deadpool 2. I'm so stoked for this!

I want the director and cinematographer to both know of this joke and strategically place every shot in the movie so you never see anyone's feet. They're always obscured by other people, or smoke, or buried in sand, or just barely cut off by the edge of the frame.

None insane dudebro response:

1. Domino makes me feel funny on the inside in a good way.

2. I was super duper skeptical of how they translate such a 90's Leifeldcore character into the cinema but it works.

The propmaster / armor team is amazing. I can just imagine that design discussion.

"So, we need a future gun. Bullpups are played out, the MP7 is everywhere... what do we do guys?"
"Okay. Glen, hear me out... we take the Kriss Ve..."
"NO. JUST NO."
"WE TAKE THE KRISS VECTOR AND PUT A 203 ON IT, GLEN."
"... go on."
"And, uh... a scope? Like a little sporter or scout scope?"
"Uh huh, uh huh.... but let's put like an old Tommy gun stock on it. The 1928 not the M1."
"So then it's from the future but still old... like Cable?"
"Bingo."
" Holy sh*t, Glen. We nailed it."

(As an aside, Glen is the term I use for every organization's one person who somehow is on every committee / working group but only ever shoots down ideas and really doesn't bring much to the table.)
