Marvel Media (Spoiler Thread)

Quality notwithstanding, I can't reconcile bringing the current incarnation of Spidey into the MCU. Their continuity doesn't fit. They'd have to reboot him again... or...

...or...

...how about using Miles Morales instead? They used Ultimate Nick Fury after all.

I would kill for Miles to show up on film.

Of that, they've gotten back the rights to a bunch over the years. Off the top of my head (I think these were all elsewhere):

Blade
Punisher
Daredevil
Electra
Ghost Rider

hehehe... Namor.

Man-Thing's rights have reverted to Marvel. They even mention him in an episode of Agents of Shield.

Don't forget Howard the Duck

FTFY.

Yeah, someone should update that chart at least for the stuff in "Everything Else" that has already gotten screentime, like Mockingbird and Guardians of the Galaxy. How else can I keep track of which characters are in-limits?

IIRC, I first saw that early this year before GotG.

Stop confronting my pedantic demands with logic and reason!

Where is the Moon Knight love?

Comics thread. No one mentioned it in the Avengers thread.

The Cap movie is actually Serpent Society instead of Civil War... though I dunno why, as it sounds like it's primarily going to be Civil War. :D

Apparently the Serpent Society title was a joke. The official name is Civil War.

That's a shame, the Serpent Society would have introduced Cap's coolest girlfriend ever, Diamondback!

Yay! He was mentioned on page 2!

Moon Knight seems more likely to get a Netflix show.

I was wondering how the Captain Marvel movie is gonna work. Captain Marvel is absurdly powerful, won't it just be overload?

Isn't that the whole "absurdly powerful with the brain of a 12-year-old"?

I think you're confusing Captain Marvel with Captain Marvel (not to be confused with Marvelman/Miracleman).

Yep!

Same. And with the font matching, I'm thinking that's the most likely too.

Good catch. I think you're right.

Yeah that other version is just hideous.

I thought the black costume with the lightning bolt was from her days as Ms. Marvel (since replaced by Kamala Khan and a much better outfit).

Personally, I think Marvel would be crazy to go with anything but the new costume for the movie.

Running Man wrote:

I wouldn't go so far as to say HIDEOUS, she is more covered than most women superheroes would usually be, though the focus on the thighs is problematic... she's certainly better than Powergirl or some of the older versions of Wonderwoman were.

And certainly better than this transitionary costume...
Wow that's huge... ok, link for the awful transitionary costume that's basically panties and a bare midriff.

It is, and agreed.

It seems like Civil War is going to be a pretty minor event. That's interesting.

Clearly the Infinity War movie will have little to do with the actual Infinity War series..but perhaps more to do with the original Infinity Gauntlet? But considering how little a role the Avengers had in it I'm assuming its going to be heavily modified.

I'm actually kind of excited that the MCU is about producing a synthesis of all of the storylines and plot material that Marvel's generated over the years rather than trying to produce straight-up adaptations of the original runs of the material.

It's also why I'm more interested in the films that weave their way into the fabric of the whole story-space rather than trying to stand completely on their own. That's why I'm perfectly OK if they never make another stand-alone Hulk film, despite Mark Ruffalo's brilliance at the role. More stuff like Captain America 2, less stuff like Iron Man 2.

(We could use some charismatic villains who are not Loki, though.)

I view this thing as some fantastic What If universe. What if there were Avengers, but no mutants? What if Spider-Man was never bitten by that spider?

Agreed - I really hope Kingsley comes back as Mandarin in another film. I'd like to see a take on Morgan L'Fey (spell?) as well.

Not necessarily. It could be the focus of the one film, but have echoes and ramifications beyond it. And with no subtitles on Captain Marvel and Black Panther it could be about their struggles to find how they fit in with a world of governments increasingly uneasy with superhumans that are out of their control. T'challa's role as king and Carol's history with the Air Force could be natural hooks.
