Hey friends, got a weird problem here. Using GeForce Experience to update to the latest drivers, which usually goes swimmingly, but today it's been stuck on "Installing USBC Driver" for the last fifteen minutes. Is this normal, or is there something I should be doing about it? Thanks in advance for your help!

My driver install last week took a lot longer than usual - I thought it was just something on my side. I don't remember what step it was on, or how long, but 15 minutes doesn't sound unreasonable - I was definitely starting to get a bit concerned, but then it finished.

Yeah, it's still going, an hour later, but I'll leave it alone for now.

An hour?? Jeez, by the time it's done there'll be a new driver update available!

Well I killed and restarted GeForce Experience, and it says the most recent drivers are installed, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I did make a Win11 USB install stick, just in case.

Guys. Good evening. Not the most savvy guy here when it comes to tech, and I would appreciate help

I currently have a MSI GeForce GTX 970 and I am switching to a Gigabyte RTX 4060 TI.
Both -of course- are nVidia. My quetion is...

Do i need to install the gigabyte software (if there is any) or will the nvidia control center etc etc take care of things? What would be the best thing to do?

Thanks in advance

No.

or will the nvidia control center etc etc take care of things?

Yes.

THANK YOU

Hello guys and good evening.
One other thing

I was given as a gift a used GTX 1070Ti and I also have a RTX 4060Ti.

I ran both on the FFXIV benchmark (Dawntrail which is the latest) and to my surprise i got almost identical results.

Are both cards similar? I am confused and would appreciate guidance. I would have expected the RTX 4060 Ti to be much more superior than the GTX 1070ti.

Thanks in advance

Looks like the game's system requirements are pretty low, so maybe the benchmark is CPU bound?

I have no idea. But now I am wondering if the "upgrade" from a GTX 1070 Ti to a RTX 4060 Ti is worth it.

The largest benefit I suspect is when you enable DLSS to improve frame rates by cleverly upscaling from e.g. 1080p to 1440p or 4k. Does the benchmark allow you to test with DLSS turned on?

Yes it does. and Strangely the BENCHMARK has the AMD "FSR" enables? Why? I do not have an AMD video card. O do however HAVE AN AMD CPU. So why is the benchmanc and FFXIV (THE GAME ITSEL) using teh AMD "FSR" thing

I believe FSR despite being developed by AMD also works on Nvidia cards but is visually inferior to DLSS

The 4060 ti should be 40-50% more powerful than a 1070 ti without using DLSS.
Unless of course you don't have a proper CPU to support it.

FSR does in fact work on any brand GPU. Its one of its key strengths.

Which AMD cpu do you have? Is it from the era of the 1070?

No my CPU is VERY OLD... I am even ashamed to show it! is an OLD AMD FX with an OLD MSN 970 gaming motherboard

OLD AMD FX

That's your problem
I swapped from an fx8300 to a ryzen 2 3600 and it totally rejuvenated my aging rx580. Night and day difference. The FX chips are woefully outdated now.

Of course I now also have a rx6800 and the 3600 still supports it well.

The 5800x3D is really cheap right now and will handled gaming for the foreseeable future.
Though since you are replacing the mobo and cpu you may as well go for the 7000 series.

You got a brand new sports car and you’re trying to drive it with old flat tires.

But then I need to buy a new motherboard and CPU right?
I GOT A MSI 970 gaming motherboard. I guess i cant upgrade the CPU on it

Yes. Even an extremely budget option would be a massive difference.

An FX CPU based system is just not viable for anything beyond what you're already getting from it. It is a hard constraint on any other performance improvements.

I see. I am currently on a tight budget. any suggestions? on a value combo? cpu and mobo?

For an ultra-budget upgrade...

If you have access to Amazon Prime, I'd take advantage of the $115 Prime-only price for the Ryzen 5600X and do:

AMD Ryzen 5600X - $115
ASUS Prime B450M-A II - $70 (or Gigabyte B550M - $90)
16GB DDR4 - $28 (or any other 16GB DDR4 kit in the $30 neighborhood)

The B450 board is older but should still support the 5600X out of the box, as long as the BIOS it ships with isn't super old. And the board supports BIOS flashback for CPU-less BIOS updating, so even if it did ship with the ancient BIOS, you would be able to flash an updated BIOS. The B550 board would be guaranteed to have a 5600X supporting BIOS out of the box, but if you're really pinching pennies, the B450 would let you save $20 at the potential expense of having to hassle with BIOS flashback before you can get a bootable system.

If you don't have Prime, the Intel 12100F is nice and cheap without any extra deal needed:

Intel Core i3-12100F - $88
MSI H610M - $80
16GB DDR4 - $28

If you've got a little more money and you have a Microcenter nearby, they have a $279 bundle for a Ryzen 7600X, board, and RAM, or a $259 bundle for an i5-12600KF, board, and RAM.

I have a 550 board and AMD CPU from 2021 still doing great.

WOW... thanks let me look up onto those. and yes i got prime
Thing is ever since COVID my 2 business are not been able to recover so im in a tight sopt still. Plus family grew

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH

I am leaning towards this

AMD Ryzen 5600X - $115
Gigabyte B550M - $90
16GB DDR4 - $28 (or any other 16GB DDR4 kit in the $30 neighborhood)

I dont care about flashy stuff now (leds etc)
I am guesstng that motherboard will have no issues with my Gigabyte RTX 4060 Ti right?

Ok these are my current specs

CPU = ADM FX-6200
Ram 36 GB DDR3 @666
Mobo = MSI 970 GAMING
VC =4091 MB NVIDIA Geforce RX 4060 Ti (new one)

So that "new budget" of cpu + mobo will help new new 4060 right?

Thanks in advance

yes absolutely. It'll be like putting prescription eyeglasses on for the first time!

Since you currently have 36GB RAM and you may be accustomed to having that amount, if you can afford it, you might consider doubling the 16GB recommendation - so ~$60 for 32GB of DDR4.

Thanks for the info guys. I really really need to ease my expenses. so ill git this mobo onto my current case.... use my actual ssd and the rest of the stuff
