Bayonetta 2 Catch-All

Great article. I regret going down to the comments section. When will I learn to never visit the comments section?!?

I for one would not have known that she appears to be fairly attractive had several dozen individuals not pointed it out for me, so I appreciate each and every comment.

(Edit: I feel I should clarify for the sake of the people making said comments - this is called sarcasm, which is a style of communication humans often use to humorously dismiss absurd or irrelevant viewpoints. My statements should not be construed as factual or supportive of the content in said comments.)

It ruins sarcasm to have to explain it. Might as well be straightforward.

NEVER! Everything posted on the internet must be taken as absolute fact.

What's that whooshing noise?

It was meant for both statements. Sarcasm is awful enough IRL where you can use tone and expression. I can't fathom why so many people insist on putting it to online communication; it's not like it's a particularly clever or necessary sort of rhetoric.

Anywho, back to Bayonetta 2!

I love you, LarryC.

Man, this still doesn't come out for another week! I was sitting here considering if I wanted to head to the store. I've been discombobulated by how early the reviews came out. Once again Nintendo does what Nintendo does, other publishers be damned.

Don't you mean Nintendo does what Seg-don't? Man, it just doesn't work the other way around.

I'm horribly tempted to place an order, but I'm still sitting on Smash 3DS, Borderlands TPS, and the ever present Diablo 3. I also have DmC from PS+ sitting on my PS3, and Metal Gear Rising from a Steam sale. Then again, when has my pile ever stopped me before?

I got it. My reflexes are too fast.

This is my favorite.

Polygon's new Quality Control podcast, Bayonetta 2 episode:

Some interesting discussion in being a dissenting voice when reviewing a game.

Nintendo is clear when Activision is blurry.

Nintendo is hard when Hudson is soft.

Yea, that's the best I got.

Nintendo's here long after Capcame.

Recycled, but...
Nintendo's Doing What Activisain't

Or the more grammatically sound...
Nintendo's Doing What Activision't

Most of the story doesn't make sense but it starts to come together around chapter 11.

This made me chuckle quite heartily.

Sounds like this one is perfect for this thread.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiimmmm shot!

Nintendid what Sega wouldn't.

I totally dismissed Bayonetta 1 because it just seemed like a cheap gimmicky game that just used sex appeal to sell. Then I watched a stream of it and was completely and utterly enchanted by it. Bayonetta, the character, is so delightfully charming and completely stylish. The story doesn't make sense. It doesn't even have to because it was just fun because the characters, specifically Bayonetta, were so much fun to watch. The gameplay also looked really tight and fun. The only criticism I could level against it was how repetitive "Fly Me to the Moon" got.

Really happy to see that Bayonetta 2 has turned out so well. Wasn't sure if they could follow it up after such a smashing hit, but looks like they did!

As I see it, comparing the sexualization of Bayonetta to most other games is like comparing burlesque to strippers. It is done in a stylized, self-referential way by an empowered character. (At least, in the first game.) I have no significant problem with it and I don't think many people do. Of course other people are entitled to their own reading and have the right to dislike it. But I don't think Platinum are like some brave ballsy crusaders daring to fly in the face of overwhelming social pressure in the name of artistic integrity, or something.

After watching Bayonetta in action, I couldn't help but think she was a fairly positive female protagonist. She is intelligent, endlessly charming, completely stylish, and strong. Was she portrayed in a way that focused on her sex appeal as well? Sure. But I don't necessarily see anything wrong with that. Who doesn't want to be sexy, man or woman? I guess it is just one of those things where I think having some focus on sex appeal is not necessarily objectifying.

I'm a guy, though, so I don't know how much my opinion means on this.

Correction the story is still crazy.

Big Story Spoiler

Spoiler:

They go back to the original game with time travel and the game kind creates a infinite loop of crazy.
The good thing though is it gives a good reason why the first game happen.

I wish you could keep enemy weapons for longer but you do have a ton of normal weapons so it isn't a big deal. I didn't notice a big difference from the first game. That isn't a negative for me since I didn't have a problem with the first game. I think the biggest problem is there seem to be a lot pointless stuff going on. The story could have been streamlined more and the other stuff put on side paths.

Barely any direction, thirty seconds ahead of time, three passes.

No wonder so much voice acting in games is sh*t.

Having been on the producer's side of the glass for many VO sessions, I can say that most voice actors I've worked with are consummate professionals and can pretty much nail whatever you ask of them straight away. So if the voice acting is sh*t it's down to the producer, not the actor.

And 30 seconds to review your next line is plenty of time for most voice actors, and three takes seems like one too many. The interviewee did note that she takes pride in being a "nail it on the first take" kind of person. Sounds like they did three takes just for safety.

I'm aiming to finish DmC this week to clear out my console backlog of action games, then play (at least some of) both Bayonetta games over the weekend.

Nearly 15 GB download, not including the first game. I guess I won't be staying up late to play this. At least it'll be downloaded and ready for me.

That's why I opted to go with the disc. Huzzah for release date delivery. Tomorrow night I will be slaying angels/demons in style.

Digital midnight release. Technically I already have it. I just can't play it until tomorrow.

And this is what I'll be purchasing after work today.

I am several levels of happy.

In case you maybe were thinking that Bayonetta 2 wasn't completely insane (in a good way), the Giant Bomb quicklook confirms that yes, it is completely and utterly insane. I want this, but will probably be waiting until Christmas.

Mine came in the post this morning! Looking forward to checking it out tonight.

Having never played Bayo, would the recommendation be to start with 1?
