Could this whole thing about Lynch leaving the show be some bizarre PR stunt? Perhaps in reference to the constant pressure on Lynch from the studio during the original run?
I doubt it's a PR stunt, but I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't, to some extent, Lynch and the cast playing hardball with Showtime.

Oh, I'm sure it is. HarpoMarxist's anecdote wasn't the first time I've heard stories about how stingy Showtime can be with their money, I'd imagine creators have to play hardball with Showtime pretty regularly to get what they want/need.
"This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever," Showtime president David Nevins said in a statement Friday confirming the news. "Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!!”
YES! And it's been extended to 13 episodes instead of the originally-planned nine! I have a feeling that's what Lynch was holding out for.
Woohoo! You'll be able to subscribe to Showtime and watch it on Hulu without commercials for an extra $8.99 per month. That'll be cheaper than using Showtime's standalone app, and I like using Hulu fairly well. I'm totally down for doing that once Twin Peaks hits.

Looks like the only option is Redbox Instant-- but who even has a subscription to that? I didn't realize until just now that Redbox even has a streaming service!
They do? Awesome. I just got some redbox rentals on McDonald's monopoly game and didn't know what to do with them. :)
lol just went to the website... Looks like you just missed your chance
I saw on CanIStream.it that Fire Walk With Me was only available through Redbox Instant Streaming, which I'd never looked into until just now. Sorry :(
In case anyone else has recently finished the series and wants to watch the movie, Fire Walk With Me has been added to several different streaming sites to rent/own at some point in the past 8 months.
The Idle Thumbs Twin Peaks Rewatch FWWM episode (as well as the one that follows it) is really great, and probably worth a listen right after you watch the film.
SO. MANY. FEELS!
WOW MAQ WOW
Woohoo!
My reaction, if I'm being honest with myself is:
WOOHOOWHOOOWOOHOOWHOOWHOOWHWOHOOO... JIM BELUSHI? NO. NO-NO-NO-NO... NO. NOOOOOOOOOO. No. No....... .... .... WOOHOOWOOOHOOWOOOWHOOOWOOHOO!!
From a FB friend:
I AM SO GODDAMN EXCI--
wait jim belushi?
I think that's the prevailing sentiment.
It could work. Maybe he plays an annoying character that gets killed off in spectacular fashion.
In his defense, Jim Belushi did play a good character in the HBO series "Show Me a Hero." It was an understated, small, but vital part.
Unfortunately, I don't have Showtime, and probably won't ever -- so I'm not sure when I'll see it.
You can tack on a subscription to Amazon Prime Instant or Hulu. I'm just planning on tacking on the subscription to Amazon Prime for the duration of the show. It's $8.99 a month.

Thanks for pointing that out... I did see that on Hulu. What would kick ass is if all the episodes were available at once so I could pretty much pay 8.99, binge this mofo like a whole cherry pie, and then cancel it. lol
There's a week-long trial, so theoretically you could do that for free once the season ends. You'd miss out on all the fun discussion while the show airs, though. I'd encourage you to just subscribe while the show airs, though. 8.99 a month is more than reasonable to pay for a show that airs each week. All these good shows cost lots of money to make.
Being forced to buy every episode at $5 an episode as it airs still feels a unreasonable to me (there still aren't rental options for TV shows), so I hope subscription options like this continue to be available.
It's not much, but I think this type of teaser is a good sign that they "get Twin Peaks."
If you have Amazon Prime, you can get a fairly cheap monthly streaming sub for Showtime.
Or you could wait until all the eps have aired and watch them all during the free month Amazon gives you when you sub to one of the channels.
This past two weeks, I re-watched all of Twin Peaks and then Fire Walk with Me. I understand more of what was going on than when I first saw it (at age 10), but still it was pretty weird. So off to youtube for detailed analysis! I will be ready for when this comes out.
I can't watch Fire Walk With Me. Too scary.
