Twin Peaks Catch All

I recently watched Twin Peaks upon the recommendation of a friend. I was too young to watch it originally.

There are parts of it that haven't aged so well, but I'm glad I watched it and I'm really looking forward to the reboot (hope it's as good as the Fargo...can you call it a reboot when it's based off a movie?)

I hope for the new series they have cameos from some of the original cast.

It's a shame that the network decided to mess about with the story so much, as series 2 can seem a bit all over the place.

That whole swath of time that Mark Frost and David Lynch weren't directly involved was so so bad at the time and aged even worse.

I'm glad it got its mojo (ie, showrunners) back from that last episode though. Great stuff there.

I don't think that it is a reboot. I'm fairly certain it's a continuation of the first two seasons.

Believe this is correct as well; season three... continuation, after 25 years have passed.

I'm hoping Harry is still sheriff and ends up stumbling on the first body for Bob's new round of killings, he sees a letter under a fingernail and says "I know who we need to talk to." I'd love to see Coop in the role of a retired agent. Maybe he fought off Bob or maybe he's working on penance for whatever deeds that happened while Bob was in him. It'd be cool to have Coop all over the story, but if he was just the wizened crazy guy in an asylum (Hannibal Lector style?) that'd be fine too.

Judging from FWWM, and the fact that Coop is aged 25 years in his dreams in the original series, I'd suspect that the real Cooper is trapped in the Black Lodge, along with Annie.

I need to do a rewatch and bone up on some of the mythology!

Having issues placing the scene you're talking about... which one?

First episode at the Roadhouse, 1:18 into it. I can't stop watching it. That pause is so good.

I think this show is even better the second time through because you can focus on the little things. I'm already into episode 6

Just watched it through the first time recently and I can't imagine it compares to the "what the f*ck" factor but someday I'll give it a go!

Agent Dale Cooper reporting in.

Sounds like Laura and Bobby are in as well.

I plowed through the first season in a week and loved it, started the first episode of season two in bed one night and got about five minutes in (to that first scene) and gave up. That was over a month ago.
Dare I go back?

I'm working my way through Season two now, and I haven't watched it probably since it came out. I've watched Season One many times, but Season Two is definitely inferior. You will find out the identity of the killer, but there are many other plot thread that show up that are ... not as engaging.

Agreed fully. I can manage to hold my breath through Season 2 until the killer is revealed, but it goes rapidly downhill from there, and you can feel it starting to slip even before that.

But the Season 2 finale... Honestly the whole crummy thing felt worth it for that alone.

Also, do we not have a Choose Your Tag thread for dRailer?

I couldn't find one, so I made one! Congrats!

Yes this!! Probably one of the most bizarre things I've ever watched.

After we started watching it I read about network pressure to wrap up the Laura Palmer storyline and move on, which they gave in to. Also found some scoop about the cooper/Audrey love story being forced into a change when Kyle m and the actress who played Donna started dating. Those seemed to change the dynamic quite a bit.

How I feel almost every time James has shown up in Season 2.

LOL. Yeah the "lost puppy" schtick gets old pretty quick.

This is also good, a case that makes your phone look like Coop's tape recorder.

Um, wow is this good. Watercolor paintings of muppets if they lived in Twin Peaks.

Ha! Those muppet paintings are great. dRailer, you have to go play Life is Strange straight away. There are lots of Twin Peaks references and homages in the game.

Yeah! I think I'm going to, just saw a preview for it yesterday! Thanks

David Lynch announced that contract negotiations failed and he's no longer directing the Showtime series. Even worse, the main fallout was over budget concerns, so now it's looking like this is going to be a low-rent, Lynch-free Twin Peaks return. I'm bummed out.

Went from excited to apathetic...

Everything I've heard about Showtime has made me sad. They rejected a Katori Hall script solely because they didn't think people would be interested in a series focused on people of color. I've had friends work on their shows and everything I've heard (admittedly second hand) is that they are extremely risk evasive. They want to be HBO, but they don't want to risk shelling out the money to make something great, and they tend to play it very safe with the shows they do take on.

I'm hoping that the widespread disappointment forces their hand and they actually pony up. This is incredibly penny-wise and pound-foolish of them to not go ahead and spend here.

No Lynch, no point.

Yeah, I'm seriously hoping this is a ballsy negotiation to get more money out of the network. How disappointing!
