Star Wars Rebels Catch-All

Well that was awesome.

And did Vader

Spoiler:

pull a reverse move where he spun around and shot while flying backwards?

Never seen that in Star Wars before.

Totally forgot about this, i'll have to check it out on demand this week. Pretty cool that there giving us something over the summer break.

So I watched it again this evening and...

Spoiler:

...I think Ashoka's playing the "From a certain point of view card." Ezra asked if she knew who or what Vader was and she replied no, but she knew who Anakin was from before but she doesn't know what he is now, but she clearly recognizes him.

Agreed in part. I think she's just lying, though. I'm pretty sure she knows.

So good. So damn good.

So what is the deal with this? I haven't seen any new episodes pop on my DVR after the premier. I know that the premier was the first three episodes but it seems longer than three weeks that we've been waiting for a new one.

Siege of Lothal was really a mini-movie between the seasons. Season 2 proper is starting in October.

I did not know that. Thanks for curing my ignorance (on this issue).

For season 2? I had sooo much trouble getting my DVR to record season 1 of this show. For whatever reason, the show guide data basically never contained accurate information about when this show was on. I had to manually record just whatever show it said was in the timeslot I knew should actually contain Rebels. Season 2 looks to be much the same, as my DVR has 3 episodes on it now, and nothing new for weeks. I'm hoping On Demand has the back episodes so I can just watch that. Until you wrote this, I assumed that the 3 episodes I have were just some summer bridge miniseries or something.

Yes, that's exactly what it is. Read the posts after that first one and you'll see.

SMG's character finally revealed

Spoiler:

She's an Inquisitor, so gets to hunt her real-life husband, hehe.

The 14th can't come any sooner.

Also I really like that character design.

Spoiler:

Interdictor cruisers! B-Wings!

All the chills!

I'm really excited about this upcoming season, despite having been quite sour on the first season. Got to support mah girl Ashoka!

Simply amazing.

So did nobody watch Wed night? I didn't get to it until last night. But doh, to be continued...

I really hope a lot of parents bonded with their kids tonight when...

Except that is the opposite of poor Kanon's experience with the clones.

How do they stand with 4 legs? Awesome episode! I love this series!

This is like fan-fiction in the best way. Bringing back all the best original characters from Clone Wars? Why the hell not? Make poor Fives' sacrifice mean something? Absolutely!

I like how the clone troopers scoffed and the 'storm' troopers.

I have always thought the Clone troopers were better conceptually and the Genndy Tartakovsky series solidified it for me before the other clone wars series came out.

I'm not sure I'd say they're better conceptually. Clone Wars did something a bit subversive, although I'm not sure they meant it. At the beginning of the series, the clones were just faceless cannon fodder. You didn't think twice if one took a blaster to the head, or dropped anonymously in a battle scene. But that began to change halfway through the first season. The clones start to develop slightly different personalities. They're no longer grim-faced warriors who live only for battle. They're people, and when they start dying in particularly terrible ways, it jolts your empathy. Some clones become recurring characters, and you get real worried about whether they're going to survive or not. For good reason. Most of them don't. By the time we're on the Shadow Planet, re-imagining Stalingrad in the Star Wars Universe, we're really feeling for every clone that doesn't make it, and moreover we're starting to wonder about the enemies and even some of the battle droids as well. When a droid dies screaming, "But I just got promoted!!!" It stops being funny and starts a feeling a little macabre. I don't know if it's something anyone involved with the Clone Wars production meant to do, but it makes for some interesting television. And moreover, it humanizes the clones. Instead of mindless warriors, they become people caught in a struggle they don't quite understand, can't really escape, and have been brainwashed to want or desire the whole situation.

I've loved Rebels, but didn't see a minute of the Clone Wars. Should I go back and watch it?

If you like Rebels, yes. Especially if you have Netflix, or some other streaming service with access, already. Like most shows it gets better after the first season or so.

I forgot to post this last week, but I LOVED the Jaws homage in Part 1.

The people who work on this show do such a great job. Really impressed.

Skip the first season and any episodes that revolve around droids.

Watched the second ep (or is it the third?) with my wife. Her comment was that she thought it was interesting how the Clones had physically "gone soft" over the years. I thought it was a nice touch too.

I'd say so. It's a much different show than Rebels, and characters in major storylines tended to be at much greater risk than in Rebels. I agree with NathanielG about the droid episodes, which are universally awful. But I think the first season is still pretty solid. It starts out aping the original Tartatovsky animations, which were just excellent, and completely change the way you look at General Grievous. By that measure, they're focused more on clever combats, and on Jedi proving the value of their teachings. By later seasons, the show has sort of coalesced around Ahsoka and the clones to a lesser extent, and becomes more about personal growth in the face of war.

edit: Also, watching the second episode and realizing that Wolf was actually a minor character from Clone Wars. I thought he had been invented for Rebels. I wonder if the other clones were all pulled from Clone Wars as well.
