I really enjoyed it both times I watched it Crap, I don't have Disney XD, well this sucks.
I really enjoyed it both times I watched it Not sure if I have Disney XD though....I have the HD Disney channel.
When I saw it, there were huge bumpers for Disney XD each time it switched to or from commercials. I have no idea which channel it was, though.
Seemed pretty fun and Star-Wars-y. Borrowed a lot from the original movies, down to some of the shots and action sequences, but you can say that about most cinema in the past few decades.
I enjoyed it except that the kid (Ezra?) was definitely channeling some Aladdin (he was even referenced as a street rat) and I thought the laser sling shot was stupid as hell.
Why does the official site say that the show starts October 13?

The first episode has strong overtones of Aladdin, Firefly, Eureka Seven, The Clone Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and maybe a bit of Stargate SG-1.
Pretty much felt nothing like the prequels, though, so that's a good thing.
I really enjoyed it. It has some problems but overall I thought it was good and like Clone Wars will probably get better with time.
I was glad it felt and looked more like episodes 4-6 than 1-3, at least to me.

Considering that the art direction is based off of the Ralph McQuarrie sketches, that's a fair analysis.

I think the first two episodes glued together are considered "the movie" airing 10/6 whereas the single half-hour eps begin on 10/13?
I also got a strong Firefly vibe as well. There are worse shows they could imitate.
Turns out there's a re-airing of the "movie" tomorrow night. My DVR is set!
It's basically Firefly in the Star Wars universe. I loved it. The format seems even more kid-friendly than Clone Wars too, which is great.
Ok, I'm sorry, but the inner nerd in me broke out while watching this. Like 2 minutes in the kid gets a "feeling" and he looks at main guy. This is probably something Force related. And then the frikkin' violins play the tune. You know, the tune when Luke first tells Ben that R2 is looking for Obi-Wan. That tune. And I got chills. Actual chills. And the reason I'm not being specific is because I'm watching it for the first time right now and I'm only 3 minutes in and I had to tell somebody.
I got that too. Loved it.
I really enjoyed it! I'm actually going through Clone Wars now, so it has a lot to live up to, but it's a good start.
Is this available on Disney's website or something?
The first two episodes are on their xd website. They release the episodes a week before they come on TV.
Cool. I want to support this without using alternative means. If that means waiting for dvd release, then so be it. But having it available on their website is quite nice.
Yah, I couldn't figure out how to access it on their site, it directed me to login to my xfinity account, but that I don't have that channel so I can't watch the episodes. Guess I'm waiting for dvd release.
Me too. Oh well there is more than enough other stuff to watch.
Any thoughts on what age is old enough for this show? My daughter is five. She normally watches kid shows like Daniel Tiger and The Cat in the Hat.
That's a tough call. At that age, it varies pretty widely from kid to kid and family to family. My kids watched the first episode with me though (6, 4, and 4) and they all loved it. The main characters are all kinda swashbucklers, so the stormtroopers come off a bit like keystone cops. I'd say it's less scary than a lot of Disney movies, so it mostly comes down to how comfortable you are with the periodic laser duels and the fact that the Empire is being the Empire (ie. treating the common people horribly).
In the story so far, the main characters are cast in somewhat of a Robin Hood role--stealing from the Empire to feed the poor. Then they go on a mission to rescue some Wookies who have been taken as slaves to the spice mines of Kessel. So there's the potential for awkward questions, if that's a concern.
I'd say it's roughly as violent as Star Wars the film. No one gets their arm cut off in a bar, but lot of stormtroopers do get taken out, very bloodlessly as in Star Wars or The Incredibles. Some explosions, some small wookies in peril, some tragic backstories implied but not shown. Hopefully that helps.
The DVD of the 60 min movie is also at Walmart
Why does (I assume) R2-D2 look like he's break dancing in that picture?
First episode was fantastic. The sound effects, the music, and especially the ship and stormtrooper models look straight out of a movie. Really impressed.
Skipped all the Clone Wars stuff but this I could get into I think.
Is each episode not coming on Disney proper or is it only on this XD thing? I just assumed premiering on XD and then on regular Disney a few days later or something. Otherwise, like others, need to figure out how to watch this.
OH don't skip the Clone Wars. It is so f*cking good. Wipes away the sins of the prequels, I shit you not.

It's on Disney XD, Monday nights at 9PM. U-Verse still shows this as Phineas and Ferb, so hopefully they'll get it sorted out soon.
