Crusader Kings II Spirit-all

Anyone interested in a multiplayer game? I've had some fun before with having everyone start as a count or duke within the same kingdom, and racing to see who could grab the crown first. The first time around we started in England, and it became so devastated by rebellions and wars between nobles that the Pope actually stepped in and named a new king. I'd like to do that sort of game again if there's interest.

I'd love multiplayer CK2, but time zones and my small window of available game play time will probably rule it out.

I'd be up for a multiplayer game. A limited scope sounds like a good idea, especially given the vast size of the map at this point.

Though Teams Hundred Years War also sounds interesting.

This is probably worthless, but here is a listing of the major paradox games, their release year, and the time between sequels;

Name Release Date Time Between Sequels
Europa Universalis 2000 Original
Europa Universalis II 2001 1
Hearts of Iron 2002 Original
Victoria 2003 Original
Crusader Kings 2004 Original
Hearts of Iron II 2005 3
Europa Universalis III 2007 6
Hearts of Iron III 2009 4
Victoria II 2010 7
Cities in Motion 2011 Original

Cities in Motion 2 2013 2
Europa Universalis IV 2013 6
Cities: Skylines 2015 2
Hearts of Iron IV 2016 7
Stellaris 2016 Original

And here is the projected release date if same amount of time passes between the previous sequel and the current generation as between the current generation and the next sequel

Victoria III 2017
Europe Universalis V 2019
Crusader Kings III 2020

They didn't really do the different Cities games, they just published em.

An interface that can actually handle all that expansion content well and make it easier to do the court management thing.

This.

Sengoku is sometimes counted as Crusader Kings 1.5, if you want to throw off the figures even more. Though they've hinted that what CK3 really needs is a new engine and a "fresh angle".

Meanwhile, my Khotan game is suffering from the fact that it's really difficult to expand south when the Himalayas are in the way. It was relatively easy to grab two kingdoms in the Tarim basin, but north of that is just the nomads. Who converted to Christianity and gave a county to the Templars. Since there's basically no castles to grab, just empty land for the nomads, and since I can't muster enough of a force to defeat horse archers one-on-one, let alone when they call in fifteen thousand riders, it's a bit tricky.

Expanding west is tough, because the Muslims object to marrying my Buddhist children. Surprisingly, a couple of marriages in India paid off big time and I ended up inheriting entire kingdoms. The problem is that they're a really long ways away, and it's been difficult to defend both halves. Especially because they tend to have gavelkind succession, rather than the more sensible primogeniture I instituted in Khotan. I almost had enough territory to grab the Bengal empire, but I couldn't manage to grab Orissa from my brother before it all fell apart. A couple of deaths later, and I ended up retreating back to Khotan and spending a couple of generations trying to grab bits from the nomads as they fought each other.

My current ruler is trying India again, after inheriting Gujarat. His only heir is his grandson, who inherited Orissa fro his grandmother, through a very unlikely series of events. Other than that, we hold none of the Begnal Empire, and only Gujarat and Malwa in Rajastan. So a new empire looks to be the only way to go.

Which is ridiculously expensive in terms of prestige. He's agonizingly close, but he needs another 2000 prestige and he's getting older. He's also a lunatic, though that hasn't slowed him down much.

You want to know why playing as Khotan is hard? This is why playing as Khotan is hard:

I think the much smarter method for them to go would be to release a CK2.5 sometime early next year. Make it a $25 DLC that does big engine/UI updates but remains compatible with all current DLC. Then, a few large DLC packs later, transition so new DLC only works on the 2.5 version.

I think at this point any kind of CK3 is going to feel extremely barren and barebones compared to the amount of just sheer stuff that is in CK2.

If you assume that HoIIV, CK2, EUIV, and Stellaris are all going to be on similar DLC paths, I hope they do some more new IP in 2017/2018.

It seems there is a great big giant "fantasy strategy game" hole in Paradox's franchise line-up. The success of the GoT mods shows there would be a market for it.

I wonder if they would actually get the GoT license? That would be amazing...

I'm sure they could get the Warhammer license.

I feel like fantasy could just be a CK2 DLC since it would end up being set in a very medieval type world only with way cooler events and race dynamics.

Shhhh now. We just got the space strategy game we've been asking for since the beginning of the millenium.

I asked for one that was better than Space Empires IV.

And you got it! If you listen closely, the music is based on Aaron Hall's sampled sobbing...

Spoiler:

(No offense, Aaron, if you're out there. Ed's right, SEIV is a benchmark game.)

Getting enough provinces to create England was taking too long so..

This Land was made for you and me.

it won't be long before he is saying “Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!” to his vassals.

Fired this up again after letting it sit for months. No sooner did my king of Wessex sire a son, his younger brother rose up to usurp his title. I missed this.

CK2 Conclave is 50% off until 1800 US EDT on Sunday. It looks like that offer is only at the Paradox Store (which sends you a Steam key), but not on Steam itself.

Edit: Ugh! I've just tried to use the Paradox store to pick this up, and have had all kinds of problems. The store told me my payment was refused, so I tried a couple of different credit cards (same result). Then I checked my online credit accounts and saw that there were charges (and credits) on all three of the cards I tried.

I did not have this problem when I bought Stellaris from them.

To make things worse, their help system is even worse than their store.

In any event, I am curious to know whether anyone manages to successfully purchase this.

Thanks for the heads-up, Hrdina! Been meaning to get that one. Didn't run into any problems in purchasing but I did use the Paypal option instead of a CC. Hope you get yours straightened out quickly. Have fun in the meantime of course.

They wrote back and told me that after the store refused me once, I'm locked out for 24 hours. I think the sale had 25 hours left when it rejected me. I guess I'll wait until the next sale.

Hope you enjoy it, anyway.

Horse M.D. - Starring Hugh Laurie as the voice of the Horse.

I'd watch it.

Now the challenge is to have a horse as your heir.

There's a spectacular AAR where a guy sets up an entire kingdom ruled by horses. It's amazing.

With all this horsing around, it is understandable that no has posted that the new DLC - The Reaper's Due - has been released.

I did! ...In, uh, the wargamer's corner thread... Sorry folks.
