I found that yesterday and ended up buying the mp3s piecemeal on amazon.

Well, have 2 tickets reserved for Minneapolis...we'll see if I can get the wife to go...

Hey, just so everyone knows, this preview event is not the whole movie. It's like an "HBO First Look" if you've ever seen one of those. But in IMAX. And with 17 minutes of movie.

I asked about it at my local theater. There's a Transformers show after it here.

Ah, thanks, that's what I wanted to know.

The raccoon is kind of amazing.

My birthday is July 29, and I told my wife I want to go see this for it. Boo for having to wait four whole days after my birthday for it to open!

So we noticed it said only 17 minutes. My buddy was in town from Houston so he and I went and had dinner with another friend he hadn't seen since he moved. I'll see the moving on August 1st....but I seriously can't wait, looks really good.

Can't wait.

I did kind of cringe when Rocket said "fricken" I wish they would not do that. Perhaps come up with a new word or twist on a a word for cursing - like "fracking" in Battlestar Gallactica. It sounded silly.

Just got back from the IMAX First Look and it was great! They managed to establish the characters, show the tone of the movie, and have an awesome prison fight and escape, all in 17 minutes!

There was an extended trailer at the end of the preview footage, too.

(That's posted from an official Marvel UK Youtube account, so it probably won't get taken down like the first one I linked. In case it does, here's the Fandango "exclusive" US version:
http://www.fandango.com/movie-traile...)

I'm looking forward to seeing it Aug 1.

I bought my son the prelude comic book. Now I just have to pry it away from him so I can read it too. I can't wait.

I asked o Twitter, but will ask here.

If I wanted to get into the comic books for this (trade paperbakcs) where should I start. I would prefer to not spoil the movie if possible.

Eh, I disagree. 'Frickin' has been an exclamatory for at least as long as the actual f-bomb as far as I'm aware. Plus, the movie is all about silly and ridiculous. It's pretty much the schtick for these guys.

Also, with BSG and Farscape(and anywhere else they've invented profanity) the idea was to use actual profanity. The fact that they're not doing that here shows a different intent.

Also, "frakking" and "frelling" are horrifically distracting. They sound far, far sillier than "fricking" precisely because they're made up f-bombs.

Good question. I'd never even heard of these guys until Rocket Racoon was in the Marvel Heroes game. And I still really know nothing about them.

Maybe I'll just go see the movie and have that be my introduction?

Best part - after watching it several times - the music. They have just don't a great job with the vibe from the music.

Although Groot eating himself is quite funny.

I saw this image of the movie and thought it was funny to see how things look without CGI

My introduction to many of these characters was reading the run of Guardians of the Galaxy starting in 2008, which is when the team you see in the movie was created. The Annihilation: Conquest event can serve as a prologue to the GotG comics. Reading Annihilation: Conquest, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Thanos Imperative not only gives you a great story featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy, but will introduce you to many of Marvel's cosmic heroes and villains, however you are looking at seven or eight trade paperbacks in this case. It also throws a lot of characters at you, however, so be warned.

Alternatively, Marvel launched an Avengers series in 2012 to try to pick up movie fans into reading comics. The first trade paperback introduces the movie roster of GotG about half-way through. This then spins off into Vol 2 of the modern GotG comics. This comes down "Avengers Assemble by Brian Michael Bendis" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1: Cosmic Avengers". It's a much smaller cast and starts off with characters you already know. It also contains huge spoilers on one of the biggest moments in The Thanos Imperative, however.

Of course the second choice can continue on to "Vol. 2: Angela", "Guardians of the Galaxy/All-New X-Men: The Trial of Jean Grey", and "Vol. 3: Guardians Disassembled" if you want to keep reading.

The 2008 run of GotG is a favorite of mine... so yeah. So looking forward to this movie.

I thought I would start putting stuff for this movie here rather than the trailer thread so everyone will be ready to post impressions in week!

Can't wait

Loved it! Great clip.

"Or we could get that first and improvise!"

I am Groot!

Full review of the movie (some plot spoilers)

If you're skipping to avoid the spoilers, I'll just give you his bottom line...

Because at the end of the day it’s a comic book movie. Unlike Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, or the tone of the second Captain America film, it never loses sight of exactly what it is. A movie based on a comic book. It’s a buddy-action film that will do fine among the other chapters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Maybe it’s that freedom of dealing with lesser known characters, maybe it’s the wit of the script, or maybe it’s Star-Lord’s ‘Awesome Mix, Vol. 1′ (which is also the film’s soundtrack, and I’m SURE it will sell like hotcakes- I bought a copy five minutes ago.) that ensures that.

Whatever it is, it works. It works reeeaaaalllll good.

GO SEE.

Edit: They have a spoiler-free version of the review as well

Yay! That was precisely what I didn't like about Nolan's movies and Winter Soldier.

I loved The Winter Soldier, but it was a classic 70s soy thriller, even down to the wink-nudge of including Robert Redford in the cast. Great movie, but it wasn't trying to be a classic superhero movie like Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy.

That being said, so excited to see this.
