The all-new legal marijuana thread

Figured we needed one now that Colorado has gone completely legal for personal consumption.

I see this as very bad for the for-profit prison industry. Doesn't anyone think of the poor corrections officers?

I keep meaning to look this up but is there ANY downside to eating foods with pot? By not smoking it don't you remove almost all of the health issues? I am looking forward to having this become legal everywhere.

Vaporization is the preferred way of delivering cannabis without the unwanted effects of smoking.

You'd still get the mental impairment wouldn't you? But that's the whole point of smoking it for non-medical reasons, so I don't think it'd be considered a downside.

Well, there's some indication that extremely heavy use can have some long-term effects on your memory, but it appears to be one of those cases where you have to ingest a lot of the stuff, and probably on a very routine basis.

Other than that: if you ingest or vape it, it appears to be about as dangerous as caffeine.

I would also think that since it stimulates appetite that it could, potentially, contribute to weight gain.

Be sure to play plenty of ultimate frisbee.

It doesn't stimulate appetite across the board for all people. Frankly, booze is just as bad as that for me. Pot just makes me go sleepy time, so I don't generally get into it.

Snowboard.

I believe it depends on the strain. Sativa, indica, or hybrid are going to have different effects on you. Medical marijuana will adjust the type you take based on what symptoms you're dealing with. Or at least I'd presume so, since I don't have such a card nor do I regularly partake of the stuff.

For those of us who have trouble sleeping, this is a god send.

Edit: Let's not forget the Uruguay is the first country to legalize marijuana recently.

Same here. I find that both booze and weed make me just want to go to sleep. Pot does it IMMEDIATELY though - as soon as I can myself getting high. Booze takes awhile, and only if I get fit shaced.

It looks like Nancy Reagan's campaign was a lot more effective, politically, than we give it credit for.

If we straightline the trend, it looks like Nancy's "just say no" campaign pretty much bought the world ~20 years of prohibition, millions incarcerated and lives ruined, and billions of dollars squandered for no particularly good reason.

There are aspects of conservatism that are really important, but the War on Unauthorized Pleasure is an ongoing atrocity.

Yep, it's not that it makes you hungry, per se, but it messes with your blood sugar levels, which can cause one to want to eat.

Also, have you ever seen Scent of a Woman....ON WEED?

Nel: it's not the blood sugar that makes you hungry. It's the increase in your system of the cannabinoids influencing your hypothalamus which makes you think you're hungry.

It's actually been shown to help with blood sugar in a few different ways.

Apologies for the double post... I uhhhh... Must have forgotten I pushed the post button... Yeah that's it....

I've heard it's cannabinoids influencing your hypothalamus which makes you double post.

It's the database that's on drugs.

I just hope the folks in CO, and soon WA, understand how much of an impact this year will have on the rest of the country and they behave themselves like responsible adults. I'm sure the anti-legalization groups are just waiting for any story to say "SEE, reefer madness is real!"

First person to legally buy weed in Colorado.

Bad for a lot industries, legal and illegal. About time, I say.

Colorado's already on fire, right? I mean, I assume everybody there is already dead. Doom and gloom. RIP COLORADO.

"You are freaking out...maaaan"

I spent 10 years in Colorado. I had a number of friends getting it medicanally. I never bothered as I had moved on by then.

Now, however, I'd love to go pot shopping. That sounds so cool! And that's all I'd like to do, experience the novelty of shopping for marijuana.

One note, pot is still illegal federally. For anyone with a government or government contract position, that means it is still a no-no for them to partake. Though if you're in that position then I'm sure you've thought about it.

It would be nice if the federal laws caught up with the times. I wonder if all pot offenders would be released from prison at that point.

Out of curiosity, since it is legal in Colorado, is it legal for employers to drug test in Colorado? Does this even apply to local law enforcement?
