Warhammer 40k: Eternal Crusade - Catch All

I cant find the other post about this.

We get our first look at some game play in a couple days. Which determines if and how much I'll decide to kick in to their founder program.

We’d like to invite you to join us on July 25th, 2014 from 1:30-2:30pm EDT for our livestream on Twitch! The dev team will be streaming a live Team Combat Demonstration, along with art updates including a day/night cycle in Eternal Crusade.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when preorder sales went live and there wasn't any new material to look at. So much of this still seems super early.

I've been annoyed with the way they've gone about this whole thing from the start. I'm hoping it's just them being weird, but it feels like a cash grab. Especially with some of those founder pack options being in the 400$ range.

There has been some previous footage of running around in the environment as a chaos space marine. (not much else)

It is funny that the design lead was reassuring that the founders packs wouldn't be as astronomical as ArcheAge but they aren't that much cheaper. This is doubly so considering the current state of the game with how long they have been working on it. (no, I am not including the dev time from the failed prior attempt from the makers of darksiders)

The highest ArcheAge one was for Alpha (which is now over) was 150$. (which still surprises me just how many folks bought in at that amount)

Can you find that footage? I've been on their newsletter list since they started and haven't seen anything they've posted and don't see anything on their site.

Isn't the exact one I saw but it is from the same demo. They let a fan try it out and filmed it.

Wow, that looks like almost exactly like Space Marine multiplayer. And since they've been "working" on this for a while, that doesn't inspire confidence. Though SM MP was fun, I'm not sure how it translates into a MMO. I don't want to have to do fetch-quests where I get 50 Squig pelts or some crap like that.

I hope it succeeds, I really do. I love the Warhammer Fantasy and 40k fluff but there really has been a lack of quality games around them. Some notable good ones are the Warhammer 40k RTS from Relic and well, that's really it. Space Marine was ok for awhile, yet repetitive and the multiplayer was lacking. Warhammer Online was fun the first few levels but wasn't cohesive and well, we all know what happened with that one. I have high hopes for Creative Assembly getting the 40k license for a Total War game. Here's hoping we get some quality games out from studios with their license!

Ya know with all the Dawn of War games and the ones you mentioned. I think my favorite has still been the old one Warhammer: Mark of Chaos.

That said having the 40k universe realized would be a lot of fun if done right.

How does Mark of Chaos hold up these days?

graphics are dated, but it still plays out like the board game so i'm happy with it. Problem is I keep losing the CDs. If I have to do another reinstall I'm not entirely sure I could find the box that held them.

One hopes they show a good deal more or its still very early in development because other than skinned models this looks like just about every MP FPS but with worse mechanics.

I loved Shadow of the Horned Rat back in the day.

Wow, they're keen trying to get people to put down $USD450 for a game with bugger all information!

Shadow of the Horned Rat was one of the first PC games I ever owned. I could never beat it though.

I paid for the legion of the damned package... Would rather have a thousand sons skin but they don't even seem to be in the game.

I watched the livestream last week and wasn't impressed by what I saw. It was a low res version of a pvp arena and essentially a rip off of the Space Marine game. They had a few different tweaks and vehicles, but nothing that indicates that they're world building (which normally happens first with MMOs) or anything of significance. Granted they're saying this is pre-alpha, and we're 2 years out before launch so there's time to get things done, but nothing so far that makes me want to give them money. I'm still waiting to see more till I jump in.

Have you all checked out the 40k chess game?

Instead of just going all ed hardy with 40k I wish they would be a bit more selective.

After looking at that chess game I'm getting the impression that everything Warhammer 40k from this point forward is going to follow the Games Workshop model of milking me for every penny piece by piece. Oh, you'd like to play with this orc piece? Pay please. Oh, now you want to use this other orc piece? That'll be another deposit. Really? You want to play with a space marine? That's a separate payment. Ooooohhh... so now you want a space marine in a blue uniform? You'll have to pay additional for that.

Yep, that sounds like Games Workshop.

The devs have partnered with Razer to bring their communication software into the game: https://www.eternalcrusade.com/news/...

If it works this sounds great.

still waiting to see some kind of significant gameplay that isn't cribbed from Space Marine.

Seriously!

I agree -- the packages they're selling are overly expensive, even suspiciously so. I'd wait until they show a good playable beta before throwing money at this.
In the meantime, if you have a Warhammer itch to scratch, I found a series of videos on YouTube called "Vaults of Terra" which explain the Warhammer universe in great detail.

Founders Access is coming soon, like really soon. It's gonna be a closed Alpha with an NDA to begin with while technical stuff gets worked out. I believe that means the $120 tier will get in right away with the $80 and $40 tiers coming in later.

Btw, they've switched over to Unreal Engine 4 and confirmed Xbox One and PS4 releases (at some point).

You got the same email as me

I'm still torn on this...

Extremely wanting a 40k MMO, but this seems that they're making this more like Space Marine the FPS than an actual MMO.

Or Warfortress K: TeamHammer 40

lol nice!

From the email

We have a shooter engine, for our massive online shooter!

I've seen this applied to games like Warface and other shooters and seen them looped into the MMO category. Seems silly and i dont think it applies, but that description makes me think they're completely dropping the idea of this being a proper MMO.

I am totally fine with this.

I'm not because they started off acting like they were here to take over or at least restart the 40k MMO that got cancelled.

I'm all for a 40k shooter, but damn it i want my 40k MMO and rise through the ranks to be a Grey Knight and go on missions for the Emperor!

I always thought of it more as a wh40k planet side with pve.
