Hot Shot Golf: World Invitational (PS 3)

This, I believe, just came out for the PS 3. I have to say, if you get by the 'kid' stuff, it's a great golf game. Beautiful courses; very good ball dynamics and just about every golf stat you can think of is tracked for your character. You play 'Challanges' against the AI to earn star's, which in turn allows you more access to better equipment, courses etc.

There's wind, lie, course management and spins (which I don't quite get, but probably get's easier to do as you get better. Which makes sense). You can watch ball flight from several angles etc. (this all very much reminds me of Links).

Oh, and btw, it has every hit version you can think of, from different types of gauges, to free from of just gaging your player's motion to hitting the ball correctly. Amazing quick screen redraws for the depth and beauty of the courses.

As far as I can tell now you just get 4 'characters' to choose from (2 male, 2 female) for on screen presence, but you PSN ID hold's the stat accumulations etc.

This game is a download and goes for what I believe is a very good price of $19.99.

I believe it came out a few years ago now, but was a much more recent addition to the PS3 as it was a Vita launch game.

I know this because I got it for my Vita not long after launch.

But, yes, great series. I wish it would do something new, but the underlying arcade golf game is stupid fun.

I'm not sure I'd really call it an, 'arcade' game. The ball flight dynamics with wind, spin etc., seem right on. But yes, the limited 'arcade' characters you have to choose from and voice/music stuff is, to me, irritating (I have not yet found a way to mute the music...which I do on all games. BUT this one really needs to have that functionality!)

Again, the courses are beautiful and challenging. Some of the obstacles, although cool, may be a bit over the top and therefore 'arcadish'. But on the whole, rare.

I meant arcade like Virtua Tennis is a good approximation of tennis, but nowhere near being a sim. Hot Shots doesn't aim to be a sim like Links. I wasn't implying it was terrible or childish.

Oh man, I was hoping you'd tell me how to turn off the music! You usually know all that stuff:)

In the Vita version, once you're in a match, you can hit start and there's an option choice. Choose that and you can turn the music off.
