DOTA 2 Catch-all

Sorry I was so terrible, but there comes a time each day after which my decisions are arbitrary and terrible. Mobas amplify this.

Holy DOTA marathon! Team bug crushes again! How do we keep ending up with good pubbies to be venom when we do that?

I dunno. But those are fun matches.

I feel like I'm starting to find my feet in matches. I still feed on occasion, but generally I can at least play average, and have had some stand-out matches.

It's a bummer that most of you guys are in CST and EST. Us West Coast DOTA dudes have it rough.

Hey! We play pretty late! Also, friend Deadlift. He's PST.

Ugh. 0-5 tonight. Didn't play great, but had some anchors for teammates. Not loving the matchmaking right now.

Also, played with/against a lot more dicks. The community has a bad reputation, but so far I'd been surprised by friendly, collaborative teammates.

Saean needs to stop being in england. And not play carry when he can't communicate : p

Well my computer is back up, and it's confirmed. I can not support in this game, I am way too aggressive.

Both very true. He's flying back in tomorrow night and hanging out here for a day before heading back home.

Odd to log in tonight and see no one from my friend's list in-game.

Think of it as a challenge.

as a newcomer, what is this support I keep hearing about? Well, like, a team need 1 support, but what is the difference from others that does "attack" or "kills"?

Are they leveling as fast, do they give out special bonuses to teammate?

Thanks for answers those silly questions.

Refer to the last page for a list of links for beginning players. But I will link again to the most crucial amongst them: http://www.purgegamers.com/welcome-t... This will answer most of the questions you may have.

As for support, it usually means a character that is not gold or item dependent. And generally they will have some kind of disable or other ability that will help their lanemate. By not being gold/item dependent, the support can supply couriers/wards/smoke/dust throughout the game. They may sacrifice some xp to let lanemates get a level advantage early (by standing out of xp range), but often their are leveling at a similar rate to much of the team. They will also deny creeps and harass in early game because they don't need to focus on last hitting. You generally don't end the game with the highest kda, but you can definitely turn the tide of a match.

Basically a support guy has an ability that some how modifies another hero on their team positively, or debuffs the other team. Not directly doing damage with the abilty, but indirectly. Lich gives allies armor, sven can boost speed, enchantress can heal, Silencer can block the other teams skills. Etc. Carries tend to focus on a scaleable direct damage ability or passive.

What was the name of the youtube channel that guy said he was going to post our game to last night? Llama something something?

Nope, a later game. But I figured it out. The youtube channel soon to feature slightly drunk DOTA players cursing us out is:

Stopllamatiem

Pretty low view counts, but should be amusing.

With my new vid card I can probably start recording stuff. Not sure if I want to relive some of those games though haha.

I'm kinda wanting to play captain's mode if we can get a premade 5 man going tonight. I'm sure it'll end terribly though.

Sounds fun to me.

Could be interesting.

It works, but the captain is under a decent amount of pressure. Picking and counterpicking can be stressful, but can be super fun.

Oh, the game I was watching you?

The guy was playing a Night Stalker?

That game was odd.. thought you guys had them, as some were feeding to you, but in the end, they somewhat destroyed you guys :S

Was a fun 1 hour game to watch.

Thanks for playing with us this weekend Xantas. I hope it wasn't too rough. Let us know if you have any questions. You mentioned you watched some videos. If you're still interested in DOTA, I'd suggest watching them again. I'm sure your experience will make some connections as to what the videos were talking about.

Also thanks to the guys who put up with me fubaring Captains mode twice. I'll get better! I swear!

Also, this.

On Sunday I played my 100th pub match. I thought I would share some of the stats related to those first hundred games in this thread. Many of these numbers were pulled from https://dotabuff.com/.

My first pub match was played on September 8th of this year. This means I've played an average of 2.68 games every day over that period (I actually ended up with 102 games played by the end of Sunday). I started reading, watching and bot-matching in the week leading up to The International this year.

I had a record of 40-60. Obviously, that's a 40% win rate, which is not great. I was actually close to 50% through the first 20 games, but started to fall after that. My longest winning streak was 4 games in a row and my longest losing streak was 6. 40 of those games were played with atomicvideohead, and we share a 47.62% winning percentage. My best winning percentage comes from playing with (GWJ)GeneralFarmer, at 63.34% over 11 games. My worst is with Fibonaciii at 35.71% over 14 games. I didn't bother considering anyone that I played with fewer than 10 times.

My most played heroes are as follows:

Venomancer - 12 games, 50%
Sand King - 10 games, 40%
Axe - 10 games, 30% (one of those loses was actually a runaway team win, but I had PC problems and got counted as an abandon)
Windrunner - 9 games, 55.56%
Bane - 9 games, 44.44%
Lion - 9 games, 33.33%
Witch Doctor - 9 games, 33.33%
Juggernaut - 8 games, 87.50%
Lich - 5 games, 60%
Viper - 5 games, 40%
Clinkz - 5 games, 0% (though the client ranks me almost max vs. my peers for this character)

Some of the records are also interesting. 14 deaths in my worst match, 22 kills in my best. 283 last hits, 763xp/min, 609gpm in my top match.

I'm trying to figure out why I'm on the wrong side of the matchmaking 50% line and I think I've played too much support. My theory is for solo matches I am actually one of the higher ranked players on my team (seems to be borne out by their general usefulness) and I need to go carry, rather than letting one of the weaker players take that role. But, I still have a lot of improvement to do myself, so this is a pretty long shot theory.

Anyhow, I didn't mean to bore everyone with the numbers, but I thought it would be interesting, as a new player with no previous MOBA experience, to look back at my first 100 games.

Dotabuff as well.

OK I'll play

Win Rate: 50.98%
Longest Winning Streak: 11

Highest GPM: 801
Highest XPM: 1017

Today I managed to climb above the 51% winrate again.

EGAD, dotaholic needs a CSS/UI person STAT. I like the info but the organization is terrible.

Are you not on my friends liquid? How have we not played together?

I am on EU and I tend to solo queue most of the time. Not using voice communication because I'm lazy, it takes more effort than writing for me and I haven't spoken in 5-6 years I think. Also when in a party I play much worse than I usually do so I don't want to be the one that ruins it for the team not only by not communicating efficiently but also by playing terribly.

I think I've only played with GWJ folks once and had to decline a second invitation because I was already in another party.

Oh Fib. I have tot alk to him still about sticking the GWJ on his name..

Me: Lvl 20, 50.28% win rate. 178-176
Games won / Total games
Silencer 21/37
Undying 13/31
Doom 12/31
Night 18/25
Jakiro 10/21

I'm most likely to win while playing with harry (55.5% win)
But I've played more with Cask(47%), and NT (50%).

15 kills with silencer, 31 assists with alchemist?!(from last night!), 17 deaths, from my first game as lich.

5 game win streak, 6 game losing streak.

My highest xp minute was as Dragon knight --742? That can't be right.
