DOTA 2 Catch-all

To be fair the urn is less suppose to be defensive on huskar as offensive -- stacking DoT from the Urn and from spears.

You do want to toggle spears on and off to get yourself to about half health as we mentioned.

I had absolutely no problem getting to half-health. The opponents were happy enough to do that for me.

edit for punchlines I thought of later:

1) I just wish they weren't so enthusiastic about it.
2) Too bad they didn't know when to stop.
3) I guess someone doesn't know what Huskar does.

The barriers I've put up against buying a new computer are starting to come down. I hate the 15-30 second studder whenever I start a game and the fact that I have to use the worst graphics settings possible.

The game is gorgeous on high settings, particularly all the work that goes into the particle effects. You can get away with spending a few hundred and making this game look good, definitely doesn't need top of the line.

A bit off topic, but what are your system specs/what other games do you play? Budget and Mid-tier gaming desktops have become pretty damn reasonable price/performance-wise.

Help Me Build My PC Catch-All if you've been out of the loop for a while.

OKay, Eul's Scepter might be a new favorite item of mine when it comes to melee carries.

I grabbed one last night as Life Stealer in a game with Hickle and Barash. I saw that Axe with it the other night, and was curious if it'd work as well on LS. The other team had a Void and a Gyro. I think they may have been a bit confused, and a bit frustrated that I had Euls. Every Chrono, every homing missile -- up on the air.

It felt great.

The movement speed helped al ot too, as did the mana regen. Of course.

It's a great item for almost everyone. Problem is some people have trouble with activates, and others are really good with them.

I'm okay at one, maybe 2, but after that I go a bit barmy. Tends to happen in Late game e-blade silencer games for me.

Also, It's a question of giving up a slot that creates a question of value/utility vs. the value utility of another item, which of course, is what a carry is all about.

Edit: Wow, I ate that Pudge alive.

I've had games with 3-4 activates and I fall apart haha.

Enigma initiate

Bkb > blink > pulse > hole > shivas

Screw it up almost every time.

That's part of the reason I'm terrible at Enigma, but fairly good at void. In theory they're ults should be similar, but in practice the amount of actives necessary in a gold + mmr game enigma ult is ....frustrating. Similar to Shadow Fiend.

Question to Cask -- you paid out the ear to the dotabuff people, right? Do you still see any MMR stats? Matches or Players?

Here is exactly what I am running (other than upgrading the HDD to a larger capacity)
http://www.cnet.com/laptops/dell-xps...

I am spoiled, I could never game on a laptop. Ya that video card isn't doing anything for you at this point, 8400M with 128mb of ram.

I have it hooked up to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. Makes using dota2alttab.com much easier.
Shared video memory. I was hoping I could just squeeze a little more life out of it by upgrading the memory but DDR2 is expensive because it's so old.

There's very little to the pay portion these days. They can't do individual rankings anymore. You get a dashboard view that lets you follow activity of friends and a summary of your performance that week. And trends for your performance - thought this mode isn't that useful these days. I'm not sure that I'll keep paying.

Can you see any ranking stuff? Like what MMR the matches are in?

Hey guys, found your forum via a random google search for people who play Dota, and just wanted to say Hi and if anyone wanted to hit me up for a Dota game or 2 that would be cool.

I'll try to read the actual forum and comment with some probably worthless commentary at some point soon =p

Hobbsy

Out of curiosity, what was the actual search?

Erm honestly i think I was looking for dota 2 lan events in Manchester.

So i think Happytime Harry's location brought this site up,

tbh never heard of it before, but fits me well!

No. The only ranking it has is a listing for the team matchmaking rankings.

If you value proper grammar, have some sort of job, and don't mind playing with bitter old drunk people once in a while. This might be a good place for you.

There it is right there.

I know, for 32 I'm extremely bitter already. GET OFF MY LAWN YOU KIDS

Oh those kids. Always on my lawn. And the people who are always parking on the street in front of my house because although their laneway fits two cars they don't want to bother moving them when they want to get the inside one out.

What a depressing night of Dota. I wasn't playing my best but I was still the best on my team. Of the 3 I played 2 had early disconnects from a team-mate. Ugh.

Last night was screwed up all around, and it was mostly client based for me. First game I joined no one could buy anything. Shut down dota, tried to start it up, of course there is an update. So now multiply that by 10, and we finally got the game going about 15 minutes later. It turned out to be a very good/close game. I have NEVER played a game that dropped constant patches during prime time unannounced. I know it's 'beta' (hate that word nowadays) yet we can still pay for content. 2nd game, 2 people couldn't stay connected, and finally the 3rd game was stable, I just had to play against douchebags.

Anuxi is awesome. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile... I expect that all of those items will find their way into the game.

Whelp, I'm on a 6 game losing streak and starting to get annoyed at this game. Nothing but feeders who refuse to even upgrade the courier.

I rarely queue for matchmaking by myself. The people I get matched with often don't have mics or make terrible choices. That said, I also make mistakes, but I try to correct them for future sessions.

Competition is great, but sometimes I'll launch DOTA and think "F*ck it. I just want to have fun." Bot matches hit that sweet spot where, if you play competently, you'll win most of the time.

Vs. Bots:
Does not count Wins or Losses (you still get exp and items).
Is a great mode to try new Heroes and builds.
Has a more relaxed atmosphere (as relaxed at DOTA can possibly get), although you will occasionally run into assholes or people who say "It's just a bot game" to justify sloppy play.

I'd suggest starting on Hard, since bots don't deny on Normal.

Unfair bots require a competent team though.

The problem with bots is certain tactics are really ineffective against them since all they do is play 5-man in the mid to late game, and therefore certain heroes are ineffective as well. Ever try to invis-gank a bot who was solo farming the jungle? Doesn't happen.

You aren't going to get human like AI, but it might help you with timing of abilities and such, a game or 2 of a hero you've never played will still be helpful with things like that.

Some people can't play poker if there isn't money involved, I don't like playing games against computers.

If I don't get some good luck soon I don't know what I'm going to do. Last game I randomed Ogre Magi and supported Shadowfiend. Shadowfiend had the highest XP/m on our team and did pretty terrible in the late game.

The rest of our team just fed.
