DOTA 2 Catch-all

Cask, gauge the intrest level of the usual suspects tonight-- I'm off to a seminar on something tonight, so I won't be on til late if at all. If we can get 5 or 6, including you me harry ...hickle?, Then I'll sign us up.

Ya I would definitely have some interest. How big are teams? I assume there are alternates

5 man teams with one alternate.
Here's the link with the full description. We have until the 24th to sign up. I'll put up a team tomorrow.

Just got back into town myself.

Team Bug is signed up. Or is waiting for a confirm.

If you want to be officially on team Bug (which is looking to be East coast based), join dotacinema, or shoot be a PM. And/or I mean.

EDIT: So you have to request membership to the team to be added. So sign up and request!

Ok, I'm signed up at dotacinema. You just need to confirm me.

You don't think our team name is giving away too much of our drafting strategy?

Bug is not a hard and fast rule, but it might be a nice mindf*ck.

I signed up. I should be on a fair amount in the next couple of days as well.

Speaking of drafting strategy, we should probably spend some time over the next week and a half trying to get some time in as a group. And discuss some strategy around team comp. I don't know if we want to adopt the usual 1-5 roles that competitive teams adopt, but it probably wouldn't hurt.

Personally, I feel I can play just about any role, though I will confess to having some problems last hitting in a particularly contentious lane. But, at least with most of the regulars we have, I play a better support than most. Both in terms of lane support and warding and such later on. I probably need to do a bit more counter-warding. That being said, it's been a while since I've played with hickle, and I seem to recall him leaning towards support. I've not really seen Harry play much support, so maybe he's better at it than I recall. But it's crucial that we have someone who is going to make sure that our support needs are covered, and I have played too many matches where I've gone mid or carry where there is no, or little vision, and the flying courier comes too close to 10 minutes in.

We'll see who we get Cask. I'd like to divide people into roles, with 2-3 heroes as possibilities to play.

Not including who'd they'd play if we use the bug strat.

Again, this all depends on us getting in, and theres 600+ teams aiming for 25 spots right now.

Yeah, I guess the chances of us getting in aren't looking that great right now. We'll need to make sure we move faster next time.

Just gives us time to practice.

OH also, these are the dates:

January 26th, 2013

Check In - 8:30AM PST (4:30PM UTC)

Games start - 9:00AM PST (5:00PM UTC)

(Playing all the games up to semi-finals (5 Rounds))

January 27th, 2013

Check In - 8:30AM PST (4:30PM UTC)

Games start - 9:00AM PST (5:00PM UTC)

Finals - Right after the Semi's are Finished

Even if we don't I would love a consistent CM team, with planned times, 1-2 games per week dedicated to just that.

Totally -- that way we'll have a team ready to go next time something like this rolls around.

Hickle! We gotta get your numbers up, so we can get better data about who and what you should be in the team!

I'd like that as well.

Here are a few other potential avenues to explore:

http://www.nlgseries.com/ - they seem to run almost daily mini-tournies. Not sure of the skill level involved

http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurCompD... - not a lot of activity here, but may be able to find something regular with a little digging. Maybe even just to find some scrim partners

http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/commen... - they haven't quite got organized yet, but this would probably be a good place to try

I'm sure there are other options out there as well.

PS. This quiz was a fun distraction: http://www.sporcle.com/games/vostok2... See how many dota 2 heroes you can name. I got 73/95. I really thought I'd get all of them.

80. blah.

I swear I'll be better coach. I promise

One of Johnny Cash's lesser known works if I remember correctly.

Trapped in that void is a heart that's broken.

If anyone is interested in trading some DOTA 2 items, I have some doubles that I'm looking to exchange. http://tf2b.com/d2/casktapper

Anything on the first page is a double. Could be persuaded to make deals for some of the other stuff as well.

Anyone have an extra invite?

tons, if someone doen't get one to you by tonight hit me up on steam.

I would be interested in the DP hair, and if i could somehow persuade you to trade a ward

Would you trade your spare Jugg healing ward for the DP hair? Just trying to pick something you have multiples of.

Most of those wards were purchased in moment of weakness, so I don't think I ready to trade any of them yet.

Watching some morphling videos. Didn't realize the hero was so mana dependent.

So, obviously the Dota Cinema tournament didn't work out for us, but I'd still like to find a venue to play some more competitive matches. I heard that dotanoobs.com may be starting up a league soon and that might not be a bad way to go.

But, for any competitive opportunity, we need to actually get a team together and set some times to get some practice in.

My schedule is pretty open, other than Friday nights. Available most weeknights 7-11 (though I go later occasionally) and weekends are generally pretty flexible.

Thanks to Hemidal for the invite.

Yeah, when I get on tonight, we can put together a weekly captains mode/team practice. I'd also like to go over roles. We'll have to consider how to handle Seekr. As we stated last night -- he's a great player individually, but suffers outside the low MMRs as he is kinda not a great team player.

Looking at the cheat sheet (which I need to update - I'll prolly give the whole team access to it to update themselves), here's what I see so far:

Harry: Teamfight, Off carry/ganker
Me: I seem to be in the Str Carries and Intell Carries. Moderate teamfight/ initiator.
Cask: Support, Teamfight/Initator

Hickle: support -- we need mroe numbers!

Then there's the non GWJ guys who are harder to take into account:

Barash: Kinda all over the place. Seems to be favoring the NP/ pusher.
Welp. : Our best Agi carry, support.

Done. I was going to buy a ward, but for the life of me I can't find them in the store haha. Tips on that, and I would buy my own since I haven't had one drop.
