DOTA 2 is a free to play MOBA style game, monetized by purchasable cosmetic customization to the games growing number of Heroes.

Hit up Me, Harry, Cask or Johnny Mojo to join the guild , where itll be easier to hook up with other Goodjers before wandering into the pub wilds.

If you want to join, just log onto Dota, and someone will invite you if they have space! So take the initiative!

WARNING: SPOILERS ARE NOT BANNED FOR PROFESSIONAL GAMES.

Harry, how are we handling the non-Goodjers we've picked up? Should they be integrated into the Steam Group? Or the Google Doc? Or should they be separated out into some second list in the Google doc? Maybe in the Steam Group without privileges? Or just complete integration -- it's not like we're running a server.

I lean towards complete integration, as long as a player isn't an A$$hat.

It doesn't matter much to me, we can see what the general consensus is here. Message me for an invite, the new group is located at http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GWJ... Hopefully in here as well we can set up some trading, since I know I have a bunch of items for heroes I never use, and missing a few kit pieces on heroes I constantly play.

I have started a trading thread in the group as well.

Well, I have to be in NYC for Thursday and Friday; I'll be without proper gaming computer. So you have until Saturday to has things out before I start spamming invites : p

Being in low priority queue sucks. Especially when you had to go afk for 10 minutes in a vs bot game! TT

There is already a GWJ DotA group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GWJ...

I can't say how active it is, but you might want to coordinate with Toddland, Certis, or Gaald (the officers) to find out.

You get an "Abandon" when you leave coop vs bot games.

It's pretty dead. Harry's the most active DOTA player and hes not in it. Most of the people haven't played for some time, and have only clocked single digits.

Yeah they added the punishment for bot matches about a month or so ago when they re-added awards.

Edit: 'sides thats a "dota" group ...we're a "DOTA 2" group. Point: I'm ignoring that group.

There's a google doc?

I'm not sure of the best way of including non-goodjer running mates. Would be easiest to invite them to the steam group, but that's probably against protocol.

Also, my buddy Mark (rossman) wanted me to thank you guys for the games the other night. He had a good time despite being a bit intimidated.

Well, last night was pretty interesting. For my first game, I hopped into a real game with Harry. In retrospect, this was a terrible idea. I need to play some bot games.

I actually remembered a ton about the various heroes and items, but I was completely lost in the Dota 2 UI. It took me a minute to figure out how to assign my skill points at the start. I didn't know how to operate the courier, and the shop layout is completely different from the original. All of the items are default bound to the num pad, but I couldn't find the time to rebind them mid game.

Despite all that and the dumb push comp we were fighting, I didn't feel too out of the loop. I just need to get accustomed to the new interface.

Edit: I was wrong.

That might explain a mysterious abandon that turned up on my list! Thanks for the info. So many patch notes.
If it were possible to get into the group I would love an invite. I'm more of an Idle Thumb than a goojer, but I'm catching up on my backlog:)

Honestly, this is what took me the longest too. The skills are almost exactly the same across the board, the items cost, and are built the same, but the UI, if you are used to the war3 mod is totally different. A few bot games, and it will all come back dyni, you did hit a few black holes so you aren't totally rusty

If I can give one more piece of advice I can give to Dyni, and anyone for that matter. This game does an amazing job with sound, audible cues will keep you alive. You can hear for instance pudge walking in the distance, or hear when people use abilities off screen or even easier than seeing them. Learn these audible cues, I hate going into a game with pubs saying they cant hear me because they don't have speakers. I have 0 idea how you play this game well without sound.

Also : use microphones. Speed of communication = winning.

The audio cues in LoL were one of the things that kept me playing it when I was in that rough starting period. When i started to recognize the little dings and swooshes of a nasty spell it really made me feel like i was making progress. Dota is the same, you have to listen out so well for the cues and your reward will be a split second warning before you die horribly. Caus you are going to die horribly either way.

Also, thanks for the invite. Just poke me any time i'm on, I'm usually up for a game any time before 11 GMT. After that i get really terrible at games for some reason.

Yeah I don't know who's brilliant idea it was to put the item activates on the number pad, but that's probably the worst place for them. One tip I picked up is to put courier on an easy to reach key (I use ~) and then map "get items from stash" and "come here" to easy-to-remember keys.

One thing I have to get used to is right clicking cancels everything. Like if you're TPing in it will cancel it immediately if you right click anywhere. Or if you have the courier selected and then right click it will override any command you give it. Also the lack of smart casting is annoying. At least they have some AoE indicators now.

Edit: I could use an invite too

Item activates are 1-6, courier abilities are q-r so I'm not sure what you mean. You can always change the rebinding as well.

Item activates are number pad 1-6 by default. Like on the right side of the keyboard. The select courier button isn't mapped to anything by default. I like having it mapped to a reachable key so I don't have to actually click on the courier icon.

They may have changed the default mappings, but that's what it was when I first started.

Oh, well 1-6 above qwerty works too, thats how i do my items. I see a lot of people binding to D-F since it's like using a summoner ability in LoL

I'll be on after midnight tonight if anyone's down. Also if you want an invite, hit me up then.

I hate pubbies. Sorry Harry. I failed hardcore last night.

Eh, it happens. The game started out so pleasant too.

I thought so. Then sniper got mega farmed. And I noobed it up by forgetting to attack-move while chasing people vision juking in the trees.

They out picked us too, we had a terrible comp for that team.

-nvm, had a key, now is gone-

Did it go to someone really interested?

If anyone has a beta invite I'd be interested in giving this game a try.

Yep, but sadly not from here. A friend said he was looking for one.

Although, WizKid, if interested I have a spare account you can use until you get a key of your own.

Anyone for a bot game tonight around 9 or 10 central?

ed: not my desktop, which died hard around 7.

Harry, you need to set it so more people in the group can create events.

Message me around then -- I might be up for a match depending on how much stuff I can get done at work today.
