Help me build my PC 2016 Edition Catch All

Plus you gotta have Trump like small hands to get those Dan cases even built.. no thanks.

Like the size of your irrational impulse to back a Kickstarter for computer hardware? :)

That impulse is gross, you klein minded man.

I plan on taking before and after pictures of my hands on build day.

My hands were bloody stumps after working with the Corsair Bulldog.. I can only imagine with the Dan SFF case.. though it looks like he figured out the best way to mount the GPU with the ribbon cable and still leave clearance for the power plugs..

The SFF PSU's are the devil though.. those PSU cables are brutal to work with.

I was probably going to go with this for a psu.

Any thoughts on the cryorg c7 vs noctua l9i for cooler?

Apparently due to the low clearance from the side panel the c7 is pretty noisy.

Look at this thing.

Remember how all those EVGA ACX cards are blowing up? They're doing an upgrade program to redesigned "ICX" cards, where trading in your old card to get a new one with a redesigned cooler is $99. Includes a shirt and return shipping.

Not ideal, in that it should probably be free, but $99 isn't terrible. It's certainly a hell of a lot cheaper than a new card.

Details here:

If I owned one of the affected cards, I'd definitely be taking advantage posthaste.

Mobo description only states it supports 2133 DDR4 RAM; might wanna check it as you're looking at the Corsair 3000 range?

Hello, all. I have some recently acquired parts ( thanks GameGuru ) I had planned on dropping into my current case but they won't fit. This puts me in the position of looking for a new case. Who doesn't like new computer parts, eh?

This is what I have:

- Asus Black Edition x99 MoBo
- Intel 4930K CPU
- Asus Strix GeForce 1080
- Samsung 850 Pro 2TB SSD
- Corsair ax1200i PSU
- Corsair H60 cooler
- 64GB RAM.

I haven't bought a case in a long time so I am not familiar with any features I will need to help future-proof myself. The PSU I have is too deep for my current case so I definitely need one that can handle the size of the ax1200i. The watercooler has a big radiator thing so the case need to be able to mount that.

If there's anything I may need to worry about for possible VR ( I'm waiting a few years on it ) in the future, then I'd like to have that, but if that adds too much expense, I can skip it. Front-facing USB, etc. headers are also something I'd like.

I don't mind a larger case, the one I have now is a full tower and it's fine. I'd rather have a large case that is easy to work in than a small one that cuts my hands or drives me crazy when I try to swap out an HDD. When this machine goes live, it will have the SSD, probably 2 x 3.5" HDDs, and a DVD drive in it.

As far as looks, I prefer muted or "boring" over in-your-face bling.

I'd like to get some suggestions from you guy on a decent case at an affordable price.
Thanks,

I'm a big Corsair guy so I would steer to the 750D since the 540 and the 740 have limited 3.5" bays

Both the Air 540 and 740 can fit all his drive requirements though?

Unless you're saying in case he decides to add another standard HDD at some point.

I like several of the Phanteks Enthoo series cases. The Pro and Pro M I think both fit all the needs and are great cases and would allow room to throw in more drives in the future.

After watching quite a few videos of the Corsairs and Phanteks I decided to go with the 750D. It was a toss-up between that and the 740, but Amazon didn't have the 740 in stock so I went with the 750D.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

Yeah if you're already at 2 3.5" then you have no expansion.

My next project will be getting my old desktop working so I can give it to a friend. This is a post I made in the Trading thread in case any of you have something that can help me out:

I'm looking for a CPU

I was wondering...

If I want a server to host gaming mp world, would I need a biffy machine ?

A place close to home is selling some recondition desktop from offices. There is a box with a Q6600 in it with 4gb of Ram, it's a Quad-cpu Core 2 Duo. I used to have it as well, and still using in my wife's Pc.

I wanted to host like a server to play Terraria/Minecraft/Space Engineer with 3-4 friends at the same time.

Would that be enough ?

Biffy like this?

You should easily be able to run a Terraria or Minecraft server for a few people with those specs. I can't speak to Space Engineer, but I can't imagine it would require too much more.

One day we'll get more people on the Phanteks hype wagon!

Thanks for the input. For less than 200$, I'm tempted to try it.

I don't even have any. I've just read and watched enough case reviews done by picky people to know they're worthwhile.

I'm still on all Corsair and Fractal Design for the three PC's in the house.

German dhl tracking is sh*t.

Sure is!

A case may or may not exist in an undetermined state of transit somewhere between Hamburg and me.

Schrödinger's PC Case

You believe that it's there, somewhere, but is it really? Maybe it isn't. Who's to say.

I've run both Terraria and Minecraft servers for friends in the background on my desktop computer with minimal issues. I'd even leave them running while playing other games and folks never complained about performance issues. The main problems I had running the servers was making sure I never maxed out my internet connection, but I set up some QoS rules on my router to help with that.

I'd consider experimenting with your current desktop before buying something.

I have consulted many oracles but they complain about a "SYNTAX ERROR" that prevents me from knowing the truth.
