2D? Roguelike? $10??

Whats not to love.. comes out next month... Done and Done.

Added to wishlist!

No pre orders for me but I do like the trailer. At first I didn't think I would like it because the still images turned me off but the video looks all good.

Anybody pick this up? I've sunk about 3 hours into it over the last two nights and am enjoying it quite a bit.

Yup, I've downed Warlock twice so far and just unlocked the third character. I'm going to level them up a bit now and unlock a few more achievements then probably wait to see what happens once the community goal-thing gets hit.

Yeah it looks MUCH better in motion. The still images didn't grab me right away either.

Sounds like they took the fighting system from Smash Bros. Interesting choice.

There are elements of smash bros in there, but it's more of an "inspired by" than one to one recreating.

Just picked it up last night on a whim and put in a few hours after seeing a 2 minute video on polygon explaining what it is, and really glad I did. This game is nuts in the best ways possible, can't wait to get in more time.

Played about 3 hours over the weekend and beat the Warlock. Really liked it.

Then I played several more in online coop last night, and this game has moved in to GOTY territory for me. Everything works so well, and I can't wait to keep digging into it. Online coop lets you send out invites and when they accept they just jump in and join you wherever you happen to be with all their progress on their own characters. Everything you do together is saved as progress for both of you, but with the one major drawback of learning to manage the fact that friendly fire is a major issue. (you can turn it off but it disables leaderboards and unlocks of some sort)

Hey so this may be obvious to all but me,

Spoiler:

but is the large dude who sends horses at you, glows blue, and has a white sword the warlock? or just some crazy nuts ice mini boss. I think he was denoted on the map with a skull on it?

No he's not the warlock. He seems to be some other side boss. I don't think he appears (or the icon) until after you have defeated the warlock at least once. Maybe defeating him on the way down is part of some Spelunkey-ish chain of events that gets you a truer ending?

Hmm, then I still haven't gotten to the warlock yet. Gotta try and get to him tonight.

It is an interesting mix of things. Far more platform than I expected, but enjoyed what I've played so far. Really hard to say what kind of game it is exactly. Would almost call it a brawler but with fighter mechanics instead of mashing the attack button. I wouldn't call it a deep fighting engine, but with this cpu, it is engaging.

You go down the random tower/Abyss, with three routes, with a selection of different possible events along the way, way too many times being offered a weapon you cannot use, hopefully capture an enemy or two, usually two mini boss encounters, and then the final boss all the way at the bottom, whom I wouldn't call cheap, or complicated, but if you mess up, he will do damage to you easily. A fun trip down the tower, but you'll need about 60-90 minutes to go all the way down the Abyss to the bottom in one go, and if you mess up, depending if paid for a checkpoint, it might take you another 30-60 to get back to the warlock again on the same try. I think that is the one thing I hate about rouge likes these days, you have to do it in one go, without some sort of suspend state.

Did get to the bottom of the abyss to kill the warlock once (thanks to all the health potions I had and the captured monster that I had that I could push him easily into the corner several times), but that creature in the second town completely wiped the floor with me... and now I can just restart on the second town without that monster... is that a boss you fight only after beating the game or something?

No idea how the co-op is on it though, and the 4 playing vs is local only. Flawed but fun, easily worth the $10 I got it for.

Coop works well over the net (I assume it's fine local as well). As long as you start the game as an online game, you can invite others to join you, and they can connect and jump in wherever you happen to be within the abyss. They get to use all of the progress they have made with their characters, get to save any of the progress made while playing coop. (XP earned, bosses beat, characters unlocked, achievements earned) You can both play as your own versions of the same character, but the color difference it gives you is barely enough to distinguish during the action.

I'm really digging this great annoying interesting game :D

Box quote material right there.

Dang it, I wish this game has some sort of suspend feature. Took me a little over 3 hours on and off to kill that Warlock (and now his cousin) a second time with the second character, in one run, 2nd attempt. One of the few times I was actually able to get the camp II token only two rooms away from him, without anything super major between him and me and had to fight it all 4 tries to try actually kill him. And even then, the only way I did it was because I bought the stronger sword and, thanks to RNG, had to so a slightly longer path to get to the Warlock. Because of this, I actually had enough to mana use the super capture move, and hit them both with it for about 1/2 their life bars.

Now to find a pond to dump all money in.

On sale on Steam this week. Enable me.

It's cheap and you don't yet own every game on Steam? It's not like you'll play it.

Just get it as a show of support for ACE team and all their crazy ideas?

I have a extra copy of this from the humble bundle. First person to message me gets it.

Oh and you will probably need a controller for this game. Judging by the reviews there is a problem with keyboard and mouse controls.
