From Arrowhead Game Studios, aka the Magicka devs, comes another top down twin stick shooter.

Here are the bullet points of what sets it apart for me:

Have they said anything about a PC release?

Oh interesting. For some reason I thought Paradox was doing this and it was a timed exclusive. Very interested in this one.

Oh. PS4 only.

That makes for a non-choice.

So people aren't confused it's a Sony published title so as of right now it's going to be on PS4, PS3 and Vita. I doubt it'll go anywhere else, but you never know.

Release date: March 3

Rumor has it the game is going to be free for PS+ next month. Makes sense for a mp focused title.*

*Not that sp isn't going to be possible, but designed to be coop like Magicka.

Procedural maps and friendly fire? This will be great.

It has single player too, right? It better!!

Yeah, you can play sp. Don't think it'll be as restrictive as Magicka was as Magicka was nigh unplayable on your own.

Well THAT'S good, as I enjoyed Magicka in SP, but yeah, it could've been better.

Colour me intrigued and ready to plummet to the ground from orbit. It'd be good if it was free with PS+.

And hopefully landing on Veloxi.

Arrowhead denied this and stated that Helldivers will be $19.99 upon release with a PS+ discount down to $16.99.

I think I am still in for that price.

Sounds like the delay was worth it. I'm really excited to try this out tomorrow.

Someone tell me how the single player is.

Single player has some intense moments but seems like it will get tough fast, and might get a bit repetitive. It also removes one of the core "features" which is the fun, chaotic friendly fire.
Hopefully you can play with some of the other goodjers who are buying it. I played a couple random matches which were OK but I could see this being great fun with mics and like-minded individuals.

I'll be getting this as well, and will be up for some co-op fun I'm, surprisingly enough, Razgon on PSN - I have a few of you on friends list already, but more is always welcome!

I've got some work thing this evening. Free food and open bar.

But I'd rather be at home hunting bugs.

Well, it cross-plays with Vita... just sayin'.

I had to talk myself out of bringing it.

I'm intrigued by this one, may pick it up, just wondering about the frustration vs. fun equation in this.

I picked this up after watching the GiantBomb guys play it on UPF last week. Friend me up on PSN if you haven't yet (matthewgwoodard). Real name requests are encouraged

I also liked the way this looked on UPF. Might have to investigate with fellow goodjers next week when I have some free time.

How does the co-op work? I haven't played beyond the very first mission, but I guess I have to go through a small series on single player games before I can play Co-op?

The multiplayer portal is the blue area at the bottom of the ship. Once you get past the tutorial you're free to do whatever. People can just jump into your game or vice versa through the public/friends tabs there... so basically just add a bunch of friends and teleport into their games, or invite them to yours, or just join public games.

Thanks - I 'll get through those tonight, because that sounds excellent and just what I was hoping for!

Oh first things first, make sure you spin with the right stick 25 times continuously once you get to the bridge of the ship. It will get the dust off your cape.

You can also start a map alone and drop an SOS stratagem there - this kind of opens up your game for other people to join you. Yesterday it took less than a minute to fill up my games with 3 complete strangers.

The game is fun, I only tried missions of up to (and including) "3 - Easy" difficulty rating. It's funny (but can also be frustrating) how fast a mission can go down the drain - you'd be happily mowing the bugs down and all of a sudden a guy gets squished by a pod or is killed by a friendly turret or is squished by a player's robot thingy (think Titanfall), blown up by a nuke or kill with an airstrike. It's kind of hilarious and keeps you on your toes because death can come from your friends faster than from the enemies.

The game (especially with strangers) will definitely frustrate you if you are very serious about tactics and execution Arma style. However, if you are more relaxed about this kind of things, it can be fun and tense.

BTW, is there a way on PS4 to disable people's voices? I was planning to play this game with my son but there are so many annoying morons dropping f-bombs all the time.

I picked this up and will be playing tonight after my boy goes to bed (around 8pm EST). I'd be happy to play with some goodjers

also, I have only played one map after the tutorial....so I suck
