Bloodborne Catch-all

Hmm, someone posted the release date 6 days ago... you filthy skimmers!!

Yes! More of this super dark art style!

Hoping we see a demo of sorts..

I saw all I needed to see in Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 and 2.

That said - there was a beta for DS2.

You misunderstand.. I'm sure it's going to be good so I don't need a demo for that.. just hoping we get to play it even in a small way before Feb 2015. Think of it as an exclusive for PS+ Holiday event

Gotcha. I skipped the DS2 beta because I wanted to go in, not blind, but fresh, if that makes sense. I often skip betas of games I'm sure of, while using betas to check out new series (Titanfall, which I then skipped, and Destiny, which I bought and am playing like crazy).

You seem confused.

Wouldn't play a demo of a Souls/Bloodborne I think. More fun to go in totally unprepared at release.

Yeah... I see both sides, but I prefer to wait as well.

I'm a Demo of sorts... that's all I was saying.

You still seem confused to me.

I'm confused again.

I'm not going to watch this because it's blackout time, but for anyone interested, here is an hour of alpha footage!

I watched some of Oroboro's Alpha play. Just enough to see how reassuringly familiar the game seems.

If there's a developer I trust, it's From.

I'm hoping for a Bloodborne edition PS4, and while that may seem unlikely, stranger things have happened.

You and I, we have very different impressions of From's collected works. I like Dark Souls. I think it's brilliant. But they have a reputation as developers of janky, mid-grade games for a reason.

Maybe the resources that have come from the success of Dark Souls has changed all that, but they're still on my list of developers to be cautious of. I remember Ninja Blade and Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor and Enchanted Arms and Armored Core V and...

Souls devotees mostly just know them for Souls games, me included. The Souls games have been, at worst, much better than almost everything else (that'd be DS2). Dark Souls is imho one of the greatest games ever.

So, you're right, but I'm also right in that I do trust them, and this is clearly an extension of the Souls series.

That's totally fair.

I have my nits to pick with Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, but they're obviously doing something right with those games that they weren't doing with their other releases. My only hesitation is that they have such a long history of janky, mid-grade product that I can't help but feel like Dark Souls was the outlier rather than anything I'd stake my hopes on.

But all the same, I'm looking forward to Bloodborne.

Dark Souls 2 had its fair share of glitches and exploits, but I'm hard pressed to remember a show-stopping bug or otherwise malfunctioning part of that game. Dark Souls certainly had its problems, especially with the PC release basically requiring DSFix, and they never really paid attention to trying to fix it, but it was never actually meant for a PC release, either. And even with the framerate issues in Blighttown, and a few other less-than-optimized areas, it was still an amazing game.

It's not often that I put more than 10 days of play time into a series of games that, ostensibly, doesn't change much.

No one ever mentions the real beginnings of the souls games, the Kings field series. I LOVED them way back when. To be fair though, they were hard as heck, made zero sense, and were completely impenetrable.

I imagine it gradually streaming semi-congealed blood down the front of any cabinet it is in and having to have old towels on hand in order to wipe down the controller.

Yup, I distinctly recall finding a cheap copy of King's Field II (III in Japan) and developing a love/terror relationship, as it was one of the most desolate experiences I've ever had playing a game. The sense of gloom and loneliness are very oppressive and the fact that you get little to no indication about what to do and how to go about it is a puzzle unto itself. I only managed to beat it, IIRC, after a couple of years and some hint searching on GameFAQs.

My kid brother and I would play it for hours exploring and dying and going back to those damn cave dungeons that were terrible because almost every room looked the same.I would actually love mto see what FROM could do with that IP nowadays.

One feature of Dark Souls that may not transfer, however, is the popular "Praise the sun" gesture. Miyazaki said that because that gesture is closely associated with Dark Souls, he worried that Bandai Namco, the publisher of that game, may not appreciate it.

F*ck this PoS game, i'm out.

A fan in attendance shouted out an alternative ("Praise the moon"), which Miyazaki seemed to like.

Ok, I'm back in.

Ohhhh man. That made my day.

Bloodbourne may not be for me. A little too visceral in a way that doesn't really get me excited.

Lol. Unfortunately I'm being serious. Too much blood. Not for me.

Nothing wrong with that, I just saw a chance for some funny.

It does look pretty raw, I don't go out looking for that stuff but usually it doesn't bother me much unless its trying to be over the top with it for shock value.
