Bloodborne Catch-all

I spent more time in Tower of Latria trying to figure out its secrets than in any other part of that game... the Valley of Defilement notwithstanding... that area was just crap in a bucket o' swamp water hehehe.

I didn't like splashing around the bottom at all, but the rest of it was pretty inspired IMO. Incredibly frustrating, creepy and sweaty-palm white-knuckle stress kind of fun.

I understood what they were going for, but I didn't entirely enjoy it. Glad they haven't revisited this design in the souls series since... at least not quite like 3-2, in any case.

Not sure if anyone saw this, but came across a 6 minute gameplay video that was released today. This looks pretty interesting to me. I haven't dove to deep into any of the Souls games...but with something like this on a new console; it's a bit enticing.

Go ahead and dive deep into Dark Souls 1 while you wait.

... I think this is about the time I go on media blackout for the game. I need no further convincing than that video right there.

It really bothers me that at 2:25 the player gets hit multiple times and there's no reaction from the character avatar whatsoever. The enemy's weapon just clips through the player's body and they lose some health.

Look at the building in the distance at 5:04...

He only gets hit twice, and one of those hits does stagger him. I'm not sure why the other didn't.

Well, the first hits swing right through because you're invulnerable during backstabs. When he does come out of the backstab animation and gets hit, there's a response in the character model (and health bar).

This. Any veteran Souls player knows back stabs are great against multiple enemies. All the invincibility frames.

I was referring to the hit right at 2:23. He kind of sidesteps, but still gets hit and doesn't stagger. Probably just animation priority. The second hit staggers him.

Or it's still a beta and things aren't perfect yet.

Yeah, I've seen all I need to see, and I'm not even the biggest Souls fan. (Though maybe I should finish Dark Souls while I wait...)

I'm going with this for now. There's a fair amount of clipping between the player and enemies in general, and I hope that werewolf grab animation gets some more work. It doesn't really look like the werewolf is holding the player. (In general, the player's physical feel is off, but a again, beta.)

But otherwise, I love the look of the game. It reminds me of Castlevania and the spooky flooded villages in Fable II. Love the atmosphere and monster designs.

This clip... WOW.

The hole Victorian/Gothic feel to the setting... well, makes me think of Vagrant Story, somehow... which only makes it even more desirable. Damnit... I think I might not be able to hold off getting a PS4 before next year.

The game isn't out until next year, though!

Oh, I know, just that, you know, gotta be prepared and make sure I actually have the console for the game. In my mind, it's like owning the PS4 soonish makes Bloodbourne somehow closer hehehehe

Oh, shoot, I didn't even notice that that was a new video...

Yeah. Um. This looks fine.

I'm holding out hope for a price cut before Bloodborne comes out, so I'll be waiting until the last minute.

I'm holding out for a bigger hard drive and thumb stick covers that don't come apart

That latest video is amazing. The gun does appear to be a stun weapon.

That old guy in the wheelchair with the blunderbuss? Geez Louise! This game looks batpoop crazy fun.

Yeah I really liked that detail also.

I like that he was talking to you, too... So much of the Souls games feel like you're happening upon everything after the horrifying apocalypse has absolutely ravaged the land. That almost makes it feel less like the world is entirely lost... Like some crazy old coots might be holding out, but they're not especially friendly.

A lot of the characters seemed to shout things at you before you slaughter them. Apparently people survived whatever happened to the city, but everyone's still a target?

Seems to me everyone who lives in the city hates all the new foreigners who have come to try and harness or expunge the Beast plague.

I think it was one of the interviews posted upthread where they talked about the power of becoming more beastly, but there is a cost.

Some more hands on impressions from Eurogamer.

Edit: Damn, nvm. Looks like this is just for Japan.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/1/6092...

We have a US/EU release date now. Ugh, so disappointing.

Spoiler:

We have to wait a whole 24 hours!

You are not a true Bloodborne fan unless you import the Japanese version and finish it before the US release on your region free PS4.

Got an e-mail from Sony last night with trailers and a release date. Feb 6, 2015.

I'm a bit surprised it's coming out so soon. I thought it would be a November or December 2015 release.
