E3 trailer:

Also worth noting that the previous speculation thread for this is Project Beast: Demon Souls 2?

I got bored watching E3 last night. I guess I missed the announcement. Looks like I will have to buy a PS4 after all. Or I could bite the bullet, buy a gaming rig and hope it eventually gets a PC port. Either way, my funds are going to get drained.

Gimme now.

Did they say that Sony is publishing, or what? I'm trying to confirm that this is 100‰ exclusive to PS4.

If it is, I'll likely get one, though I'm going to need to know a little bit more first. I haven't played any non-Souls From games. We've seen that picture of the fog door, but it wasn't in last night's video. I want to know how much Souls DNA is in this, basically.

I did like the horror atmosphere.

I'm holding out hope that this makes its way over to PC, but I'm not optimistic.

I fairly certain that Sony is publishing it. The trailer starts with "Only On PlayStation," followed by "Sony Computer Entertainment presents," and finally displays the logo for JapanStudio, which I believe is Sony's game publishing subsidiary.

I am excited. I haven't bought a game for my PS4 since I got a gaming PC and hooked it up to my main television.

Same here.

Bloodbourne impressions from Polygon.

If it's not coming to Xboxes, it's not coming to PC, imho. Look at Demon's Souls.

Which is why I'm not optimistic. Oh well, guess I won't be playing this one.

I don't own a PS4... but I will.

Maybe it will come to PS Now

As hyped as I am for this game, I don't like the sound of

One of the ways we are bringing that sense of danger to life is by keeping the deep strategic elements from Demon’s Souls, while also transitioning from the passive and block-and-attack style of Demon’s Souls to a quicker, more offensive and active combat style with close-range weapons and guns.

If they make this into a twitch game of fast reaction times I would be so sad.
A great deal of the quality in Souls combat was exactly that, while obviously requiring that you react to enemies, it rarely required 13-year olds reaction times.

from Miyazaki:

Creating Bloodborne as a completely new game on the new PlayStation 4 hardware has allowed us to really push the envelope in myriad ways. That being said, in more ways than one, it also very much retains our distinct, signature style. As has been at the core of our development philosophy since Demon’s Souls, we make true games for people who love games. Please watch for more to come on Bloodborne, and thank you very much for your support.

Here are some in-game screens:

This game's the reason I'll be getting a PS4 sooner than later. I needzzzzz it!

Okay, the guy in the Polygon video really needs to understand how skinless, infected dogs aren't really in the same category as other dogs.

It is a shame this will be a PS4 exclusive. Would love to see it on PC.

I've been playing the two Dark Souls on PC, but I'm ok with this being on PS4.

I guess they may look at the Dark Souls experience and realise there is a lot of money to be had if they port the game. They probably didn't even consider a PC port for Demon Souls but now they know the money one could generate.

Hmmph, I'm a souls junkie but I don't think I could justify buying a PS4 just for this.

Is this another spiritual successor to Dark Souls, or just....what?

Spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, I think, as was Dark Souls, but I get the feeling Bloodborne will stay darker than Dark Souls did, making it a better successor.

Dark Souls was a fantastic game, but I liked the dark depravity in Demon's Souls. My hope is to have the dark feel of Demon's Souls with all the polish and level design of Dark Souls.

Dark Souls II, while a fun game to play through once, had too many problems to have any legs for me.

That's the question. We really don't know yet. They've already said combat will be significantly different.

Enemies, too, have more nuance. The diseased villagers that patrol the city have broader behaviour patterns - a mob of them may converge in a town square, working together in a hunt, before the familiar ring of a town bell will send them back out again on their own individual paths. It makes for a more organic, more emergent place to explore - enemies no longer simply spawn, it seems, but rather patrol the city according to their own internal logic. There's tragedy to that logic too, their behaviour part of some ritual the citizens of Yharnam are unwittingly locked into.

Sounds like they borrowed the "radiant AI" from Bethesda!

But actually, I think this will help a lot, though I'm starting to worry, what with:

"In Demon's Souls, you were equipped with a sword and a shield, so you could seek out an area and take a passive approach," explains Miyazaki. "But we're going to switch that up from passive to not aggressive so much, but more pro-active."

As such there's no shield in Bloodborne - instead, you're dual-wielding weapons that themselves have dual purposes.

That this is going to start feeling like a spiritual successor to Diablo, rather than Demon Souls.

Is it weird that none of the changes mentioned dismay me at all?

No, it just means you're open minded and willing to give them a chance. Nothing wrong about that.

Same here. Honestly, I'll trust that Miyazaki knows what he's doing until he screws up. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were so damn good. Plus, I love his earnestness when he says stuff like this:

One of the core concepts that I've had, even with Dark Souls and Demon's Souls, is my mission and my goal is to make a very beautiful game. I know a lot of people have a hard time believing it when I say those words, because that's not the first thing that comes to mind. I always believe that there is beauty in darkness. And so with Bloodborne, I feel like the darkness is darker, which means the beauty is going to rise - and you'll be able to really see that beauty out of the darkness.

Can't wait! This is the game that the Share button was made for.

In-game impression from GT staff

His enthusiasm is infectious. I'm very interested in the shield-less combat.
