Wildstar: Catch All

Hmm I look at Badferret's picture and then his furry self loathing comment and...?

This so far reminds me of living/playing in a Saturday morning cartoon. If they keep that up I might play it.

I am intrigued. Loved the videos.

another awesome intro video

This is like the only new MMO I'm interested in hehe

Housing system seems cool:

Two people on the internet agree, it must be true.

Comment from the intro video's youtube page

Why does this remind me of a Saturday morning cartoon show commercial from the 90's?

Looks interesting. But man, it's like they ripped off every single terrain asset from Burning Crusade.

Because it's the same people doing it

3:40 into the video.... a dinosaur with jump jets?

Woah.

Press demo:

I would not be surprised to see this yanked, but a lot of great info, especially the detailed housing section.

I must be out of the loop. Do you mean an art director left Blizzard to work on this, or something else? My ignorant assumption was that the terrain work was farmed out to a Chinese coding sweatshop "inspired" by Burning Crusade.

not sure what positions, but some of Carbines employees are ex Blizzard ones.

This game looks very promising. I hope it can break my MMO fatigue that I've had since quitting WoW a couple years ago.

Is anyone else a bit concerned about the Borderlands-esque vibe they have going on in the trailers though?

I love Borderlands but I worry that in an MMO setting I need a little more to keep me playing than cool stuff, funny characters, and explosions. Say what you want about WoW's story now, but when the game first came out the world story was pretty interesting. I hope Wildstar delivers on the world building aspect of an MMO.

I doubt it. I played this while I was at PAX, and I found it to be terrible. Or, more precisely, I found it to be WoW. I haven't watched any of the promo material, but my hands on time with the game landed it solidly in "don't care" territory.

Well, let's see, their housing system looks amazing, their combat system seems to borrow heavily from GW2 and the game's lore and humor seems fun, besides all that, yeah just like WoW.

*That might come off a too snarky and some of the game's systems look to be bog standard, ie their base questing system and i'm a little concerned about casters being rooted. Still from Dev videos it is clear rust in addition to their baseline quest they also have dynamic events in addition to their whole path system.

My hackles tend to go up with statements like it's just like wow or it's just another mmo, especially here in our mmo sub forum.

It may look WoWish and the combat may come from there, but everything else i've seen has been a step beyond. They beat ArcheAge and Repopulation with functional SWG'esque housing in NA so they're ahead of the game in my eyes.

Like all MMO's it could come down to simply how you advance your character. Housing is great but if the combat isn't fun/addictive and your questing system is boring or contrived nobody will want to put in the time it will take to even make a nice house.

The features are awesome, but if the bread and butter isn't satisfying nobody is going to eat the toast you know?

See the thing is... MMOs and more appropriately MMORPGs have only a few ways to advance your characters. Nothing there really to change except for pacing.

I agree about questing, but if you've been watching their videos and their new 'track' systems you know that's not the way of this game.

Still dont have enough info on their crafting systems, but personally i've been wanting another housing system that was at least close to what we had in SWG and this seems to be it. Plus dont dismiss just how addicting and enticing having your own configurable 'space' inside a game is.

These are all fair assessments. Let me try again.

The core minute to minute gameplay seems far too WoW-like for me to care about any of the other sub-systems they've developed. Combat really did feel more like WoW than anything else. I had to be marginally more concerned with where I was standing, but not much. Or, I had the ability to be concerned with my standing, it just didn't seem to matter.

Additionally, they may have amazing dynamic events, but I didn't experience that at all during their demo. The demo seemed geared to express just how WoW-like an experience I could have while playing their game. The answer appears to be "really quite WoW-like".

Housing systems have hooked me on games before, but not ones I was paying a monthly sub for. If this game is going F2P I will judge it less harshly, but I still wouldn't play it again.

I think there are interesting things going on in MMO space, this just isn't one of them.

I pretty much had the exact same experience. This turned me off to a game I had not been following anyway. However, based on what they've announced they're doing, I am kinda interested again.

But, like Zudz, the brief time I had with it at PAX East felt much more like WoW than GW2.

I didn't dislike WoW, but I've played too many MMOGs like that before and since and am not much interested in another one. GW2 was a great breath of fresh air combat and world-wise, and I'd still be playing it if not for all the other games that have launched since (I keep updating it pending a lull ).

I'm curious if you guys ended up playing ranged classes at PAX east? From what I have read, melee classes seem to handle almost exactly like GW2, while the ranged classes are currently rooted for their skills. This is one aspect that does concern me and i'm hoping they reconsider.

No, I played a robot that looked like mini-voltron with a greatsword. I was decidedly a melee job. I looked totally sweet. That's pretty much the only good thing I have to say about it tho'.

If you signed up for beta, you might want to check your email.

Out of all the beta's i'm signed up for the one i'm least interested in i get an invite while the others that i was truly interested in ignored me this week.

Just have to say, this is the first MMO I've been excited about in a long while.

re:WoW-ness
Never played WoW so perhaps the combat will be fresh and interesting to me.

Touche. You'll probably have a blast then. Have at.

Is anyone paying attention to this game?

*cough*

I just got caught up a bit after I read an article on RPS. Looks very interesting.

I signed up for the beta. We'll see how that goes...
