Nintendo E3 Press Conference 2014 Catch-All

I'm not really one to go crazy over celebrities, but I will admit that if I ever had the opportunity to meet Mr. Miyamoto, I wouldn't be able to help but gush out a stream of thank yous for his invaluable contributions to my favorite hobby and for being such a joyful person. I admit that I have a little celebrity worship going on regarding him.

+1

It seems like Nintendo is mostly showcasing games we've already seen now, so I'm going to explore other channels and see what other companies are streaming. Still, another chance to see Splatoon and such, and it sounds like they are trying to vary things up.

Seeing something like project STEAM, though, makes me wish that Sega would release new Valkyria Chronicles. Or at least port the first one to Vita or 3DS. I don't understand Sega. Incidentally, they're a good example of what Nintendo should NOT do. This entire E3 has been instructive of that. Owning the 2 hardware platforms that are different has advantages if people get excited and actually by your products. People seem excited. Hopefully they buy their products now.

You realize they made 2 sequels for Japan on PSP right? But apparently didn't bother to port the 3rd at all.

The 2nd one claims to be available to Vita on the official game page, but in the Sony store it only shows it working for PSP. So not sure what's going on there.

I do. I have the second one and I'm currently playing the first. Waiting to restart VC2 until I finish VC1. But it's slow going on VC1 since it's on a console attached to a TV.

Man, Splatoon looks like a blast. Watching it through Treehouse has made me a lot more interested than the Digital Event reveal.

A bit more of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

That video's cute, but I was definitely not impressed with Project Giant Robot. It looked really awkward, like Robot QWOP.

They said it's pretty early. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even release a game and just use it for something else.

As a small eShop title it might be a fun diversion for a night. Get a couple friends over, see who can do the best? I dunno.

Ulari probably has the right of it. If they can't bring it to a full title, they'll recycle into another game like they do with a lot of their ideas.

That's a great video though since it looks like everyone was having fun making it. I've been absolutely loving this laid-back "let's just have some fun" attitude Nintendo has adopted lately.

I wouldn't either. It's an odd choice to devote so much press and attention to two really janky prototypes, though.

I dunno, Project Guard looked like an awful lot of fun to me even in its current state. I'm hoping they'll announce it for eShop actually.

I wish more executives of large business could be goofy and laugh at themselves like that.

This E3 has made me love Nintendo as a company more than ever.

Yeah that video was awesome...hopeful this e3 showing translates to success for Nintendo. I honestly like what I saw from all 3 companies..as cynical as this biz can be I still think it's a great time to be a gamer there is something for everyone.

I only felt Giant Robot was janky, Guard looked very nice.

Possible candidates for a Nintendo Land 2? Or just as little mini games on their own on the eShop, that would be interesting.

And now, news about things that weren't news:

Nintendo Hopes to Share Metroid News in the "Near Future"

Better than nothing I guess. At least they are working on ideas.

So if you add a few button prompts to a cut scene it now counts as gameplay?

Ever since 1983

They never stopped really.
Said it before, but I like it, Nintendo brought fun to a videogame fight.

The Zelda video was actually gameplay:

Ehhh, I'm still skeptical that he didn't simply mean "in-engine". I'll believe it when I see it being done with a controller in someone's hand.

I agree. If it was gameplay it didn't make much sense. Link was way out in the middle of the screen, and when the monster appeared he ran off the screen to the right. Then it cut to a closer perspective running right to left before the bridge was knocked out. How would that play? It certainly didn't seem "open" to me.

I hope it was just in-engine and something's getting lost in translation.

I'd be super super happy if just the chase scene until the bridge breaking was gameplay.

What we were all thinking and sort of saying:

GoNintendo[/url]]An unbelievable show that I hope Nintendo sticks with next year. Consider me a 100% convert. Nintendo never has to do another stage show in my opinion. Give me stupid robot battles, Treehouse live, tournaments and real people showing real games. I'll be there to watch every second of it. Nintendo's presentations at E3 2014 perfectly showed why I've been a lifelong fan of the company...and always will be.

People young enough to be lifelong Nintendo fans make me feel old.

EDIT: I still want to catch up with the new Miyamoto's new IP videos as I missed just about everything in day 2 and 3.

I guess this E3 just solidified that I'm no longer a "Nintendo" fan, because everyone seems excited, but all the Nintendo stuff I caught, including the Digital Event, bored me out of my skull. It's not them, it's me.

Well, I know we had a colecovision and eventually an NES a couple years after it released, but i'm still a lifelong Nintendo fan because I have been since I first played their games, not because they've been around since I was born (1980). Then again, I don't really count the years before the NES as time to be a fan of anything as I'm not even into sports like I might have been then. I guess if you are more than a few years older than me, then it might seem weird to say lifelong fan.

Fedaykin98 wrote:

Wait, what? I've been a lifelong Nintendo fan (i.e. as long as I can remember), and I'm older than you!

Yeah. I'm confused. I used to play Donkey Kong on Colecovision as well, but I don't remember knowing what Nintendo was (and even then "a Nintendo" was what you called the NES) until I was like in 5th grade.

I remember playing with Star Wars toys well before we got an Atari, let alone a Nintendo.

My daughter will (hopefully) be a "lifelong" fan - she won't be able to remember a time when we weren't playing together, or when she didn't have a Mario Doll, etc.

tomayto, I'm four years older than you.

Fedaykin98 wrote:

Sure. I remember that too. I think that's just a confusion of word usage. What the author meant (and how I took it) is that the individual has been a Nintendo fan as long as they were aware of Nintendo's existence. I put myself in that camp even though I was a much bigger fan of Star Wars before the NES ever existed.

I was going off of Farscry's "as long as I can remember" definition. By yours, I'm a lifelong fan, but as I remember quite a bit of life before that, I feel weird with that usage.
