Unsolicited update! The villages of Wee Rome and South Rome (there's 2 NPC villages pretty much side by side) are now connected to spawn by a road running straight South. I use the term "road" loosely as really it's just an embarrassing torch dirt road with torches. I intend to pave it with some nice smooth stone or whatever once I get supplies ramped up.
Currently in Wee Rome there's stairs down to bedrock. For anyone who might want to do some hasty deep mining. If you happen to use a zombie spawner, there's one of those also (follow the signs).
The first big project in Wee Rome (now that the mine access is dug) will be to build a charcoal machine. Probably still take a little while before it gets going, but I think it's going to be a fun and challenging project for me
We still haven't chosen a permanent home, but we're probably going to be building and gathering resources just near spawn for a bit. I guess that makes us Napoli?
I added some farms to the village nearest spawn. I wanted to be able to get some emeralds from the farmers.
Server will allow me to punch a few trees, and enter a building, but everything else just lags out completely. I can run around but not actually get anything to happen.
Also, spawned on top of a tree?
Hmm. I can get in and change worldspawn to fix the tree thing. (Pretty sure that was my fault anyway.)
Not sure about connection problem. Lucy had trouble connecting yesterday, while I was fine.
Okay, I moved spawn to an undeveloped, unforested area nearby. I also added some markers and torches to make it clear where spawn is (and make it look nice on any maps we make).
Shawnosaurus (and anyone else on): Buttons, Lucy and I have relocated to a mangrove swamp about 3km north of spawn.
We left some upgrades in Rome. One of the Romes. There's a max-level farmer in a farmer's market there. They take both pumpkins and melons, so they're a pretty good source for emeralds.
We don't have a nether portal yet, but hopefully we'll get connect back to spawn soon.
Nice job with the farmer, thanks!
Mangrove swamp sounds .. comfy
By total luck, we crashed into one of the big ore veins almost immediately at the new base.
Can I get whitelisted for the vanilla server? ID is: cheesy_crouton.
Thanks!

Done!
Thanks, merphle!
Am I still on the whitelist after the years since I last played?

Edit: Seems I am...
If no one minds, I might cut out a spot out of the way somewhere.

Honestly it was really nice to just log in for a sec between meetings. Been needing to feel welcomed a bit lately. Thanks.
Ok setting up on the island in the tiny lake south east of spawn.
I don't mind setting up communal autofarms (iron, bamboo, sugarcane, carrots, potatoes, beets, wheat) near spawn if folks want, but I'd probably need help as I just got my first iron pickaxe.
I use wattles' iron farm a lot. Pretty simple and good rates without lag most of the time. If stuff like that is too ugly for spawn I'll put them up at my base, but I assume that only runs when someone is close.
Cool, it's nice to have some more activity trompin' around the place
Inspired by manta, I logged in and did a tiny bit of building at -660,..,400 (the dynmap works again!) last night. Really just a shelter.
Tbh, I thought I had gone farther away from spawn.
Lucy, Buttons and I are still plugging away a couple times per week at the mangrove swamp to the north. We did build a nether portal and find a fortress, but we haven't connected to any spawn portal yet.
I think there was an update that has us out of sync with the server. Looks like the game client is 1.19.1 and now the server shows as incompatible.
That said, this heat wave has me feeling incompatible with this furnace of a PC. So I don't mind a little afk time
1.19.1 is installing now.

NO BREAK FOR YOU
Edit: Server's up with 1.19.1 now.

Thank you for the quick update!
I don't know why, but I always fixate on map coordinates and roads. I would like to make a road going in the 4 directions. Starting at 0, 64, 0. Which sadly is in the water. But I'll build a small platform.
Is there any objection or concern if I start building a road? I'm thinking 3 tiles wide (1, 0, -1). Maybe the grey stone pavers. Torch every 11 tiles. Absolutely nothing fancy. I'll put a little marker every n tiles and a little way station every nx5 tiles or something like that.
I considered a rail line, but I just worry about the workload for that. So I figured if I putter at a 3 wide road then a rail line could always fit on it if that's interesting later on.
Edit: I wonder if the height should be 66 or so, to allow water traffic to pass underneath. Anyway.
I like the cardinal roads... I always do that in the nether too.
Although I try to do it at 110 in the nether to avoid nasty stuff.
Next time I'm on I should be able to make a branch off to my new place, but I've had a string of busy days and haven't gotten the sit down time I'd like. I am starting to realize that there aren't 40-50 folks playing on here... might move back closer as I think I won't get in folk's way... not sure though as I like my island.
I started a test road at 65z and I'm not loving it. Might just do 64 and deal with mad boaters.
@Oddrune that Farmer's Market in Wee Rome is outstanding! Nicely done
ps: Whose idea was it get to give tridents to the wet ass zombies? omg.
Because I have an obsessive personality and some spare time, I did a quick screenshot of the world road progress. Please, accept my apology in advance for how uninteresting this will be.
I started construction of a simple 4 direction world road beginning at the coordinate hub of 0, 64, 0 (64 being the height, which I think is Z).
The road is a basic 3 stone tile wide and staying at 64 height. I put a torch every 12 tiles. So pretty cheap and quick to build. The persistent height means some tunneling, as you can see on the South Road, but I dig surface exits every so often.
On this map you can see the hub in the ocean. I did a west road a little ways until I could connect it up with the tip of Spawn Island there. The South Road I have plotted out as far as 0, 64, 1000 at the bottom of the image. I don't know if that lake has a name, but I've been calling it Millennium Lake because it's right at Y 1000. The South Road isn't constructed to spec yet, but it's plotted out so there's uninterrupted travel from Spawn to Millennium Lake.
Next on my agenda is constructing the "Office" you can see (right where the Spawn Connector Road connects). I'd like to build a little automatic smelter for easier stone production. Perhaps a donation chest for cobblestone and coal in case anyone has excess they'd like to donate.
After the Roadworks Office I'll build the South Road properly to Millennium Lake. Then start on the North and East for a bit. Perhaps get all 4 directions to the 1km point and build a little waystation at each.
Anyway, I hope someone is able to make use of this small bit of road and I hope it isn't in the way or annoying for anyone.
Just northwest of that star is an underwater temple that I discovered last night (pretty sure it was an unexplored part of the map). I got sniped by some guardians while boating across, so there might still be a few torches and stone tools in the water
Heads up Millennium Island is where I have been terraforming to build my base. I'm not too far into it if it needs to be abandoned for the sake of something.

No need to abandon anything at all. As long as you don't mind that there's now a road to spawn from near there
Not at all. I might wall around it and make a path to my soon to be residence. But I'll make sure I don't mess with the aesthetic or usefulness.
I tried to connect. I was whitelisted at one point but I migrated my MC to my Microsoft account. Could that be why I can't connect anymore? When I launch it says my account is Painthappens like it was before.
