Minecraft Multiplayer: GWJ World

The map kind of looks like a pirate pistol.

Just put up an Overviewer update.
I explored up near the top of the map to connect that one dead-end loop back to the rest of the map [it was bugging me ]
While I was up there I noticed a really cool mountain range. I posted a sign and I'm going to plan some wide-ranging development, so I'd ask everyone to give me a good amount of space around that area - unless there are objections.

lol I also explored that area to close the loop a while ago (I think it was a few days after the last overviewer update.) I did start clearing a few sea temples up there, but that was it.

Hereish:

Masher, can I persuade you to do a map update? We've been building more in our village. And I found another End City.

Oh its alive!

What're ya talking about? DuckLucy, Buttons and I are on most weekends. And now we all have elytra! Now to get some parrots to fly with us!

Sorry. The tread went quiet, I got pulled away on some job stuff, and had a creative block on my next big construction project - so hadn’t been giving this any attention.
I’ll get a map update done today or tomorrow for you.
Thanks for the nudge.

EDIT: Overviewer updated

Thanks, Masher.

Buttons and I did a little exploring yesterday. We found that the first ocean monument has been dried out. Is someone building another farm there, or is that a home?

Also, who made the structure east of the main island in the End? I assume it's an ender pearl and xp farm? Is it open for business?

I'd hope no one would be crazy enough to make a second farm. Takes forever and its not at all fun. that being said I love making them. But again I'm not all that right in the head lol

Sometimes you make no sense at all, Paint.

Only sometimes? Man I have to try harder, I'm slipping!

Mostly I mean I like making them because I have something to work on then. I have a hard time figuring out what to build 90% of the time. With a sea temple I have something set that I can make. When I'm working on my homes, I never know what to do next. I don't ever have a plan. Just wing it. A sea temple clearing or farm gives me a goal.

I never did make this one so you can turn it off and back on. On another server I had one that was fully controlled. It takes something like 300 dispensers to do that. And a ton of redstone and repeaters of course. The hardest part is getting 300 bows made lol.

How could I go about staking a claim? How could I find out whether someone has it, or wants it? Is there a giant map some-a-wheres?

Use the overviewer. I'd say if you see something built by someone head about 700-1000 blocks in a different direction and you are good.

And post your intended location in this thread before building.

The thread still lives!

You betcha.

We have some plans to build a holiday tree at spawn again this year. The planned time is starting Sunday Dec. 10 at 2:15 PM PST or so.

DuckLucy, agl_buttons, Retrophile and I are all planning to be there and everyone else is invited too, of course. The more the merrier!

Personally I want to build another little train to go around the tree. I like trains.

That reminds me when Gaald and I built the music box under the tree, as well.

That was pretty awesome. I haven't played this game in so long. Do we have a server for the newer cross-platform version setup yet?

Pretty sure the current vanilla server doesn’t support cross-platform, but I can look into what would be involved [and what would be sacrificed] if that would be of interest to everyone.

Santa left some presents at spawn for folks. Remember to leave cookies and a note when you take a present!

Happy holidays from Buttons, DuckLucy and Oddrune!

So my brother is finally joining minecraft due to my nephew's interest (he is 6) and an Xbox for Christmas.

As I am a PC player I decided to take on the task of starting a Realms server which I know nothing about. This is a world where to my knowledge only 3 people will ever log on. Me, my brother and our nephew. I assume realms is the only way to do Xbox to PC connections... is that true?

I'd like to be able to drop in resources for my nephew to help ease his transition from creative to survival mode. I don't know how or even if it is possible.

Also, it's been awhile since I played much... since before shields were in the game... is there a consolidated place with the various redstone automation things using the current version. It seems like my google fu only pulls up stuff from older versions and I don't have as much time to figure things out as I used to. I want to make cool things for him to play with, and automate things for convenience like farming food.

I wasn't sure if this needed to be in the regular thread because it's mostly about multiplayer... just not the GWJer world.

Not much has changed about redstone recently, so most old guides will still work. The only big change is the addition of the observer block, which is essentially a single-block BUD.

If you make yourself an Operator on the server, you'll have access to the /give command, which you can use to bring in resources. There's also a command for spawning things, but I don't remember it off the top of my head.

I've never tried to get and XBox and PC to talk to each other, so I can't guide you there.

We seem to be able to easily play together on the server. I just wanted to know if I had to use the Microsoft servers instead of having my own... but I think that is the case due to the cross platform thing.

I couldn't make a shield last night. I looked up the recipe on the minecraft wiki and it literally was like I didn't have the recipe right... nothing showed up. Does anyone know if there are various item restrictions or if I have to do something before making a shield?

I do not think the console versions have shields yet

Well crap... lol I swear it had a slot for it.

Played the latest 360 version last weekend and can confirm, no shields. Pretty sure Android is the same.

Yeah, they unified the android, ios, and console version with the Win 10 version of the game. Makes great sense, but it means to play cross platform I have to relearn the different elements. Redstone is different significantly as well. Makes finding tutorial videos a pain.

Also I think my chicken cooker wont work because items float in lava... I was messing around with it last night and just got the chicken killed with lava above it, but no items dropped.

They are basically branding it now as Minecraft or Minecraft: Something Edition. If it is just Minecraft it supports cross-platform play but is also on the mobile edition/Windows 10 edition code base (also known as the Bedrock Edition) and so doesn't have all of the features of the java version. So this means they are basically supporting three versions: Java, Legacy Console (used by Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U), and Bedrock. I wouldn't be surprised to see them stop support Legacy before long.

Manta, I know we used to use the edge of a block with thin lava on top as an animal killer, does that no longer work? Channel them down adjacent to it and they stay there till they die, as I recall...

This is what I just remembered how to do. Slab on top of a hopper that a dispenser shoots into... baby chicks fit under it but adults get burned. It didn't work while I was off line so I need to actually sit and watch until a chicken dies... lol
