Minecraft Multiplayer: GWJ World

The server is acting up again. The symptom is that you chop a block, and it flashes up again, then vanishes, as if the server and your PC are out of synchronization.

This is true.

I'd like to make the acquaintance of my new neighbor Sunny. (I'm the new one.) Would you please tell me your name in this forum so I can write you?

These (what I call) server stutters are driving me nuts! I'm trying to build a nether portal, traveling frequently back and forth between the nether and the overworld, and many times the server starts stuttering when I'm in the portal, which makes getting out again very difficult. "Just when you think you're all the way out, they pull you back in." (Mario Puzo)

I've noticed that when this problem arises, my actions may not be affected but server "cleanup" tasks are highly delayed. For example, I chop a block, then move on. The "cleanup" subtask to make the chopped block disappear is delayed. Many of the problems relate to the dispatching of subtasks, seemingly. This could be accounted for by the server being overloaded, or by subtasks specifically running slower.

The server's shakiness has kinda killed my enthusiasm for building. Have we ever nailed down if this is a problem with the current version of Minecraft or a problem on the server side? Do we need donations for better server hardware, cause I'd be willing to chip in if that would help.

It definitely seems to be something with the world. I pulled it down to my local server, fired it up and it immediately started logging tick errors and hammering the CPU:

[09:53:18 WARN]: Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded? Running 2253ms behind, skipping 45 tick(s)

Running a clean, freshly-generated world the issues go away.

Too many automated chicken farms!!!

I can run around and do some investigating after work.

I probably left my coffee pot on when I left in December.

Spigot (a performance oriented port of Bukkit) might help even if you don't want to run add-ons. It's compatible with the latest Minecraft release.

I probably left my coffee pot on when I left in December.

Let it be known that this day, the 30th of January of the year 2014, Druidpeak did double post for the first time in his 10 years of posting on this forum. There will be coffee and cake after the memorial service.

Yeah, I think we have some runaway automation that is hammering it. As soon as one or two people join CPU goes through the roof.

The printing press has made cutbacks in an effort to aide this endeavour. Our chicken farm now only has 2 mothers, and probably only produces 1 new chick every 20 minutes or so, which dies shortly thereafter. We've also turned off the paper mill for the time being (which previously ran about twice per day/night cycle).

Loved this edit

Maybe we should just outlaw the big automated structures and see if that helps?

I'd pass on the coffee.

You mean we'd actually have to do... *gulp* work?

I say shut them down one at a time until we find the culprit but that is the IT troubleshooter in me talking

I like this idea... I won't be around any time soon, but if someone could kill all the chickens in my place in town that machine stops and then disable the sugar cane and pumpkin farms by breaking a circuit then my place is all manual. (As long as you aren't too violent I can repair it easily.)

Yeah, that's the kind of approach that might actually get us somewhere. Figuring out whether it's chickens or doors and villagers or golems or...

well I was exploring the automation farms and was visiting the work in progress farm north our golem farm, was just poking around untill I fell into the hole where the villagers are, due to lag on the server I can't break a block to get myself out.

I got out using water, unfortunatelly some rail on the floor got washed away, I put a chest down with some stuff for you.

I went in there and killed all the chickens around 7pm Pacific, just to let people know. There are several stacks of eggs in the chest downstairs.

Thanks, Yeah I have at least 1 double chest full awhile back, and I was a small time operation... I'm sure there are more around town.

I reduced the size of our ducken stable at the iron factory to 2 duckens and made an auto collector for the eggs they will produce. I think there was originally 2.7 billion and 1/4 duckens in there..... roughly 1/3 the entire server ducken population.

There is no off switch to the farm though so kinda stuck with that thing runnin. However all the golemns produced are killed off in short order. Only the villagers in there will add to the server issues. I think there is ~300 villagers there currently. I'll have to log in and get a current villager approximation. Wish I woulda thought of that while I was on this mornin.

EDIT: Okay maybe closer to 500-600... as far as I can tell from the entity counter in game there is ~30-50 per cell (we'll say 40) x4 cells per block x4 blocks =640! I HAZA MATH!!!?!

Server seemed a little... hitchy this morning, both out at our mountain house and in town. Not unplayable, but noticeable to me, but not to my son.

We tore down his canal house and started rebuilding after a quick look around town for chickens or lag.

Who built the giant Tron thingy?

Are you talking about the beacons in town? They're actual items you can make from hard-to-obtain items. And yes, they're super Tron.

Yeah, this. It's very cool.

Unrelated, to do what I want to do I'm going to need a lot of bonemeal. A lot. Probably a chest's worth, possibly more. Does the skeleton spawner generate such quantities? Vastly more, less?
