Minecraft Multiplayer: GWJ World

The server might need a kick or something. It seems to be running really slow and getting a lot of block lag right now.

There's a problem with the iron farm, I think. None of my systems can get close enough to diagnose.

There's trouble at th'mill!

I know you guys put a lot of work into that Iron farm, but it seems to be broken more often than working, and it causes a lot of server lag. Maybe that newer version of the iron farm would be a good idea after all. Heck we don't even need the full version of it. We could do the 2nd largest version and probably be good. I am sure several of us would be willing to help.

I went to check out the farm this morning and didn't find any issues. Was it already fixed?

It's only fair to point out here that the problems the last couple days may not be attributed to the Iron Farm. I'm not saying improvements are a bad idea, and would be glad to help/donate materials. But don't just reflexively blame it.

There are issues across the board, that seem to be stemming from the patch/update that dropped Friday. The worst culprits from my perspective seem to be fast traveling methods (horses, minecarts, etc) and the Nether in general.

The server did reboot last night, and early this morning things weren't too bad. But things seem to be slowly going downhill now.

I'm out for a while - have to sew and do other wedding stuff. I'll be back later.

The last time I saw a problem with the iron farm was on Thursday. Both systems here slowed down to a crawl when getting near the collection point. One of them couldn't get closer than the side of the lake nearby before experiencing lag so bad they couldn't escape it. I had to log in with the faster of the two systems here to get that character away from the area. We could do things elsewhere on the server without seeing any problems.

I tied the recent problems to that in my head since I hadn't heard of any changes since. After talking with other folks on the server today, they seem more general in nature now and affect the server as a whole. Things I've experienced:

- All mobs move very slowly.
- Mining obsidian took multiple tries per block, though weaker blocks broke more readily.
- I poured water for a safe way down while building a tower. Despite waiting a few seconds, the water poured so slowly I fell through the bottom of it and died.
- The day/night cycles were laggy and slower than usual. Sky moves back and forth.
- Like Momgamer said, fast travel methods were very laggy.

Map/chunk loading and walking appear to be unaffected.

Is this the best time to fight the Ender Dragon?

QS when do you consider tonight?

What do you need to do in order to fight the Ender Dragon, anyway? I'd like to help out, if a noob would be useful.

What you need: bow & arrows, probably some armor, that's all! I'll supply pumpkins to anyone who wants to wear them.

I dunno, like I said before, I didn't have any problems when I was investigating the iron farm.

As far as the iron farm goes I haven't done anything to it since fixing it last time so it shouldn't be that. I'll hop on to make sure though and poke my nose in all the cells to make sure all is well there.

EDIT: Didn't find anything abnormal that would cause any issues.

My kids woke up and were so exceptionally stoked about having a portal now- big thanks to momgamer.

You're very welcome.

Yeah. I think there must've been some weirdness there at the farm that was fixed when 1.7.4 was installed or the server was restarted, but it broke something more general which is not farm related. The Ender Dragon raid tonight went surprisingly well though. Everything seemed smooth even with a bunch of us on.

I restarted the server shortly before you all joined, just in case.

I've marked out a path to both LouZiffer and my own portals out southwest of spawn with some torches. If you head to the blaze farm by foot you'll see some signs pointing that way. Very temporary and not all made safe from ghasts, but eventually a proper and less roundabout path will go in. My massive wall I've been calling the Bulwark went up today so there's something to see out my way now

Edit: Meant to post this last night but imgur was not cooperating with my phone. http://i.imgur.com/0qdlC32.png

Next is building a tower on the right end of that wall, and then I think I'm gonna make a road back to spawn.

Did someone collect the dragon's egg last night?

I thought you did.

Impressive wall.

No I was drunk and stupid and didn't know how. I just clicked it twice and sent it teleporting away.

Thank you. You should see the hole it left down near bedrock I filled up 5 double chests with stone before starting. Used up about 3 and a half.

Interesting... I hopped over to the end this morning to grab some endstone for a project and was surprised, upon looking around, to see the dragon egg sitting on a ledge, with only 3 blocks underneath it, only a block or so away from an eternal fall. I happened to have a couple torches on me...

I'm not sure whom the egg belongs too, but a committee of 2 people that were on the server this morning when I stumbled upon it decided it should be turned in to the customs office since it had been clearly neglected. Unfortunately, there is only one customs office we were aware of...

Spoiler:

And where that office is, is in Edgemont

Whoever goes to collect needs to remember that it can only be collected with a silk touch pick or it teleports away. At least I believe that's the only way.

Drop it on top of a torch, like sand. (Looks like that's what Skylarhawk did.)

Drunken Quintin Stone hit the egg twice last night and left it on that ledge. No one else was foolish enough to try for it at the time.

I left it in a chest in the back. So nothing to break. And as Lou said, I built the ledge out a tiny, placed a torch on the block 2 below the stone, and then spleefed it.

Oh cool. I misread that. I thought you had put torches down around it. I had no idea you could drop it on a torch for pickup. Nice Job.
