Minecraft Multiplayer: GWJ World

Can we just toy around with a temporary snapshot world?

Perhaps Orphu's amped seed there?

I'm just going to quote this piece so that years from now people will find it without context and there will be much juvenile chortling.

I love the look/feel from the new flowers and trees. Sadly, didn't find any Mesa or Ice Spike Plains, but then again, I was playing before snapshot 13w36b was out. Couple shots from a swamp I scouted.

I've got a server that I occasionally use with some friends for PvP maps, but we haven't really played on in a while. I've uploaded 13w36b with whatever random seed it choose. Since it a completely temporary world, I've just left it public. For anyone that want's to play around, there will be a clean world (as in I'm going to reset the map) each time a new snapshot is released. It's currently survival, but I can make it creative if people would rather. If that's something that you're into. mc.frozenhawk.net

Edit: I could also specify the seed Orphu used for amped, but I'll need dat seed first

I fired up the snapshot with an amplified world and creative mode turned on.

I don't actually have those seeds... they were from reddit. Also the maps seem broken with this snapshot. I'll see if I can get them working.

EDIT: Overviewer map works:

Oh man, that is a crazy lookin' map

The amped world seems to be made of awesome. And possibly cookies.

I love cookies!

+1

I think 1.7 may bring me back in.
Especially since I skipped horses, and all of the new blocks.
I'll be watching for server wipe once 1.7 is out.

I like how snow cover depends on altitude now.

It's a little ironic how we were previously talking about doing a more community centered, town-like build, but the new map generation and biomes really encourage a much more spread out world. I'm still open to working on a more structured "spawn town" if people want, but I'd be just as happy if everyone wanted to get the essentials together and then take off on their own from there. I just want to know before we re-roll the server so I can take the day off work.

I'll build my sinister (albeit unfinished) fortress somewhere off by myself, as always, but that's more a function of not wanting to step on anyone's toes if I try to build too much too close to someone else. I like having the common infrastructure.

So I seen some of you mentioning this new Amped world generation, not sure how great it would be for a server but I must say, it looks like it'd be both amazing fun and incredibly scary to play on survival.

Here are a few pictures I took when exploring my first Amped world in creative.

Whoah.

See? The Cliffs of Insanity! Hurry up! Move the thing! And that other thing! Move it!

EDIT: Words are hard.

When is the full update supposed to come out? Because I could really go for a server reset and this new update seems like a good time for it.

So does Amped work with large biomes? What little I played on the latest world I really liked the large biomes. Had a more natural feel to it (not that amped is going to feel natural in the least).

@Rykin

The new biomes are sort of a mix between old default and large biomes. Biomes are now grouped together according to temperature and dryness. So now you'll get small scale biome variation, but less desert next to snow situations. It's actually quite cool.

For example, you'll see savanna, desert, mesa near each other. But you may need to travel a good distance to see a cold biome.

I switched the bubblemod server back to normal from amplified. You still get some pretty awesome mountains and cliffs (bigger than 1.6). Amplified just seems to make EVERYTHING 150+ blocks tall. Which gets a little old to be honest.

So I'm thinking I might pop back into this once the new update hits. It's been a while. Any suggestions for what the best (simple) mod set-up is to prettify the game?

I vote we go for a vanilla world with the new features. I think Amped is going to be less appealing to some of us who like, well, wandering around and enjoying the scenery. If everything is a giant cliff, I think that might get old after a while.

Coldstream, your best bet is just to find a mod (texture pack, really) that makes things aesthetically pleasing and stick with that. Lots of Goodjers use Sphax, for the comic-book art style. I still rely on the old JohnSmith pack, because the comic look doesn't really do it for me.

For functionality, I think Rei's mini-map is pretty popular too.

I think I agree. I like massive mountains on occasion, but if everything is amped there's no contrast. (It'd be neat if the vanilla generator threw in amplification as another biome parameter.) Plus, I want space on top of the massive mountain to build my clifftop palace.

I'd vote for normal as well.

I used to use MCPatcher too for high res texture packs but I can't figure out how to make it stick with the new patcher. It always redownloads all the patched files.

I don't think MCPatcher is needed anymore, is it?

I don't believe it is, either. From what I understand, hi-res textures are native now. I could be wrong, though.

I run mostly vanilla, but if you're going to run mods I strongly recommend you use Magic Launcher to help you manage them. Particularly for that period when a version updates and you're waiting for the mod-maker to catch up. You can easily build yourself a setup that will keep running and help you manage the transition.

And I'll Nth Optifine. Putting it on my laptop made the difference between Minecraft running like a Flannelgraph and it just being a little jittery.

+n

OptiFine gives me all the pretty I desire. I don't generally use textures; it always feels like it's not quite Minecraft when I do.

OptiFine is prettier _and_ faster, which is impossible... right?

Agreed, I've only really gone with vanilla, but I use Optifine on my laptop, because otherwise it can't handle it.

Personally, I'd rather avoid the amped world. I don't think it's really conducive to much more than creative exploring and snapping pictures.

As to timetables, there are some **rumors[citation needed]** that mojang might be looking to have it ready to show off at Minecon in November. Seeing that they're starting to do some snapshots now, I don't think that's beyond reality, but there's really nothing authoritative on the matter yet to my knowledge.

I could see them doing that but I can also see 1.7 being out by mid October, or Halloween and them showing off 1.8 and a new lighting engine at Minecon.

Either way I'll find out when I'm there.

Optifine can be the difference between 15-30fps and 60+ fps on some systems, highly recommend it. In my case it's the difference between 60fps and 180fps so that's sort of a wash, but there's other reasons to have it that I am actually sort of forgetting right now (I think maybe anti-aliasing and anisotropic is better with Optifine?) Either way, I still use it.

As for texture packs my favorite, and often overlooked, is Dokucraft. It's in the spirit of 16bit RPGs so that's pretty cool. Sphax is pretty but I HATE the pentagonal theme.
