Star Citizen Catch-all

I just took a tour of my MISC Freelancer and she's a beast! Like some sort of metallic space whale sitting in a bright shiny hanger.
She kinda reminds me of Firefly class ships from Firefly; utilitarian and spartan yet there is some sort of...elegance? to her.

Using the step ladder from under the cockpit I step in to find the interior to be pretty bare. 70% of the ship is bare empty cargo space with a loading ramp at the back just under the rear turret cockpit. Two terminals sit just infront of the airlock, followed by a very small toilet/shower and a sink opposite it. Next are the double bunk beds, then two ship consoles and finally the pilot and co-pilot chairs all the way at the front.

Took a seat in the pilot's chair and the yoke is basically a long steering column that you pull towards you to activate and the twin handlebars snap out into position. No holographic displays or HUDs, just lots of screens. Once again very utilitarian.

I love it but was expecting something a little more...fancy
Can't wait to fly her.

I am sure there is a lot of polish yet to come for these ships, and I expect there will be many opportunities for you to customize them as well.

So the new in-game store has launched with some lasers and such, and I noticed a weird thing...not one weapon, nor the tractor beam, apparently will work with the Freelancer. WTF?

Finally got a little video up of my own hangar:

http://youtu.be/TruD8qd1M00

I apologize for the quality. I need an upgrade.

Finally bit on this, and picked up the Pathfinder starter. Excited about starting with the 315p and being a one-man explorer and treasure hunter.

And because I had signed up for the site during the pre-announcement phase, looks like I've got a Golden Ticket (and whatever extras that gets you).

Upgraded my OS to 64-bit this morning so I can finally launch the hanger. It runs surprisingly well even with just 4GB of RAM. Though, my pitiful little hanger is a dark dingy den compared to Veloxi's up there. I need to contact the hanger maintenance crew and see about adding some lights.

Man, compared to these other ships, the Bounty Hunter one is kind of small.

Well you just sold me and I'm in at the bounty hunter level. Man I wonder how many of those 5k beast will be around?

Yaaaaay! Enjoy!

*edit*Oh wow I misunderstood, the carrier is the big ole beast!

Ahhh... what!? You guys are _playing_?

Where's my invitation email? Did I unsub from something important?

What have I done??

EDIT: I sense that in my panic I have revealed some heavy skimming on my part.

I like it. Kind of gives it that desperate smuggler just barely keeping up with ship maintenance feel to it.

Ya, I was just joking around. I actually like it and the atmosphere it brings. Though maybe a bit less fog machine in the hanger.

Sitting in the cockpit really makes me hope the Oculus Rift is released by the time this comes out. Using the mouse to move view and the keyboard for actual controls may prove a bit difficult. I hope to fly using the mouse/keyboard for controls (a la Freelancer) and have free look (via OR) at the same time.

Just like ETS2 made me buy a proper wheel controller, I'm hoping (my wallet is not) this will be what drives me to buy an OR.

Buy another ship to get a better hanger. I'd suggest the 300i. ;)

I own an Aurora and 300i(I got the Bounty Hunter package, and bought an Aurora LX and the 300p upgrade), and it's the crappy hangar.

Looking at the ships, it looks like the crappy hangar is for the snubfighters, and the upgraded hangars are with the Freelancer or Constellation.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but even if you're not interested in playing the game at this point, but have bought in, make sure you download the alpha installer. You'll get 5,000 in-game credits for doing so.

In my shame I went back and read the whole thread. I get what's happening now.

I'm still jealous as hell though, since my Kickstarter backer status seems to have been quietly ignored by the new RSI systems. 'Raised a ticket with their support, so hopefully they will help me out.

Does anyone know if the Rift is supported in the hanger module?

Chris Roberts talks about the oculus rift during this interview.

Chris talks about how the Rift is going to let him create new worlds with Star Citizen… and about how character interaction and conversations will work in the finished game. You won’t want to miss this one!

I'm more excited about the oculus rift than the new consoles coming out. Can't wait to play this game with it!

Okay found this

I am troubled by the $225 price tag for the Constellation. I have only a basic Digital Scout package, and held off on investing more until it was clear that this was a game I'd really enjoy. If the economy is set up such that people are spending hundreds of real dollars for in-game stuff, it's very likely not a game I'll end up being involved in for long. That price point just feels ridiculous.

It's been said before, and it did take me a good while to get this into my head. The purchasing of ships for what seems like a lot of cash is just further fund raising. You pledge an extra $225 towards the game being made, and you get a reward of that ship.

I'm not planning of putting any extra into purchasing another ship at this stage, and I have absolutely no doubt that the game will still be just as good for me.

As omni said, the prices on the ships are intentionally high because they are pledge donation rewards. It doesn't "cost" $225 to give you the Constellation, it is a reward for pitching in another $225.

I'm also in the "no more ships" camp. I dropped $75 on the 315p package, and really can't justify spending more.

Odd.

The first look at what things will cost is interesting. Looks like cosmetic items will serve as money sinks -- and is that a 150,000-credit limit on bank accounts, or am I missing something?

Will it be possible to get these ships via in-game means, then?

My issue is not with paying cash to fund the game -- heck, I did that! It's paying that MUCH for a pretend ship. I'd drop $50, maybe, for an awesome in-game item if the actual play is as good as we're all hoping. But $225 doesn't scale for me, and that they would say, "this in-game item is equivalent to buying food for a month", or a tool for the shop, etc., seems really odd.

We'll see. At this point, it's just making me question the way the economics are being thought of.

And $17 Million has been reached.

The $17 million mark unlocks a special ship upgrade pack for every pledger who has donated prior to this point. An engine modifier will be added to your account shortly and in the near future you should be able to see it in your hangar! You also unlocked an additional flyable ship class in the finished game: the massive battlecruiser!

And the main next stretch goal at $19 Million is player run Space Stations.

Regarding the credit limit on bank accounts, I think they put a cap in for now because they don't want anyone stockpiling massive amounts of credits before the game even launches.

Edit: I'm not looking to buy any additional ships, although something smaller and faster than my Freelancer to zip between planets would be nice. I am waiting to see what variants come out from MISC regarding the Freelancer, and might top up some to get a variant that suits my needs.

I fully agree, and shortly after back via KS, I was regretting things when I started to see additional things you could purchase. RSI have said on numerous occasions though, that everything will be available in-game, using in-game credits that you earn. Also that nothing they are offering now can give a person a specific advantage over someone that just spends some time in-game. Again, this rang in my head as similar to F2P grind-fest models, but I now don't think that to be the case. I'm quite happy with my starter ship. I'm just treating it as if that's all there is available.

Anything else I can get, I'll have to earn in-game, but if this game grabs me as much as I feel it will at this point, that shouldn't be an issue. I'm just glad to get in while the lifetime insurance is still going - i'm not sure how the lifetime insurance translates with buying a new ship at this stage, does the LI cover all ships you buy at this stage?

I find myself wishing I'd bought the Origin Jumpworks 315 Explorer.

Got to try it on my desktop today and the hanger is working great. Hopefully it'll be workin on the laptop again soon. Others on the forums have gotten in on the Lenovo Y500 gaming laptop so should work on mine.

No kidding.

Close up some of those ships look really awesome. I'd love to own any of them but it's really hard to justify paying so much for a bunch of pixels in a game I can't even run on my current rig. Plus we know almost nothing about how the ships actually perform, what you can customize and stuff like that.

The only real benefit from buying now as opposed to buying later is the LTI, is that really worth it?

You're only going to get LTI on your ships if you bought a game package over 9 months ago. I just bought my package over the weekend, and get "4 months of insurance".

That's not true. I bought in July and got LTI. Not sure when it stopped.

I bought the pirate package add-on yesterday (I think I have a problem...) and got LTI on my Cutlass.

Is it possible to upgrade your original package? Cos, like, I really like the look of that 315p but don't want to lose the LTI and other early adopter benefits.

Actually this is crazytalk. There isn't even actually a game yet.

It's not crazy, it's completely sensible.
