Elite Dangerous Catch-All

Hrdina and I were playing in the Veloxi private group (still are as of this writing). If you're still on we can switch to Open.. I'm also on Discord if you want to chat.

Lorenzolio & I are in the Veloxi group.

Thanks anyway. Next time! Have a good one. I'm not in that group; by the time I joined there wasn't anyone around to accept me in, that said, since folks are returning perhaps that can be rectified.

Anyone can make a group since it's tied to your commander. If we have a bunch of people who aren't all in the Veloxi group, we can just create an ad-hoc new group so everyone can join without resorting to Open. I don't think Veloxi is interested in Elite any more, so it's not really fair to him to expect him to login just to run the private group.

Make sure you add people here as friends in ED so that you can see when we're in-game. I don't play as much as I used to (life, work, other games) but I jumped back in for today.

Lorenzolio and I did a Wing mission to bring back some supplies for the Vixens. I think I've used Wings once or twice, so it took me a while to grok how to nav-lock and I never did get my microphone working. Here we are returning to Tombaugh Station with our cargo for the Vixens.

Afterwards, we went out and did some hunting together in the local Resource Extraction Site. After a while we realized that all the bounties we earned were for other factions. That's when we decided it was time for a break.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/3o9fCR6.jpg)

Hey friends, lorenzolio asked me to approve some folks in the private group, recently, and I just noticed a new option that automatically approves anyone who applies, so now y'all can join the group without waiting for me to approve anything. Yay!

I'm in Tombaugh Station! I thought about showing up in my Cobra Mk IV for laughs but then I figured maybe I should actually help out and do missions. So I brought my biggest prettiest ship.

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/kZ1v4D4.jpg)

That's pretty much the same as a Cobra IV, right?

Well, I'm still way the hells out in the middle of nowhere. Buckyballing it in as fast as I can, but I hadn't configured this thing for exploration, so I'm a bit slow.

And I still have to stop for the random Waterworld...

Since Veloxi has set the group to auto-admit, I'll get my alt in. They only have a DBX, but that should be fine.

I've got my joystick working and moved my ships to Orcus. Should be ready to hop on next weekend.

This thread got me to dip back into space and I've now made my way to Tombaugh Station. I'm an ultra casual when it comes to this game, and at this point mostly dip in when I yearn for the awe of Elite in VR. That said, if I summon some ships to the area I'm sure I'll be able to contribute in some fashion, and will try to connect if y'all are flying next weekend as well.

Ha ha ha.

If they make it so that a 170m long 900 tonne spacecraft only needs one pilot, that clearly means they intend it to be flown like a fighter.

I'm just glad that I managed to avoid colliding with you.

Hopefully we'll see you all next weekend Anne/Paleo/tanstaafl, Grem, & ToxicWaltz.

Unless you folks have different opinions, we can go with the same time slots this coming weekend Oct 17-18. I was surprised to see the Sunday time slot more popular. Here's the info again:

GWJ Days for Elite Dangerous players
What?
Join one or both of the following initiatives:

  • A shared community goal for GWJ players in the game Elite Dangerous. This can be enjoyed by everybody, on any time zone, and on any platform.
  • “Peak hours” scheduled where GWJers will have a high chance of encountering one another, doing wing missions, etc while also trying to further the shared community goal. This will probably be more successful if you’re on the PC platform.

When?
For the shared community goal:

  • All day (24 hours) the weekends of October 10-11 and October 17-18

For the “peak hours”:

  • Saturday October 10: past
  • Sunday October 11: past
  • Saturday October 17: 10pm ET -> Late
  • Sunday October 18: 3pm ET / 8pm UK -> 5pm ET / 10pm UK

Shared community goal
Short version:

Our goal is to increase the standing of the minor faction named “IMPERIAL FEDERALIST LABOUR PARTY OF VELOXI'S VIXENS”, especially in (but not limited to) the Orcus system.
To achieve the goal, complete missions from the Vixens’ rep in the nearest station in Orcus. Sort the available missions by “Influence” to find the best ones.

Long version:

Spoiler:

The Vixens faction has a presence in the following systems:
Orcus (preferred goal)
Asvinici
HIP 105606
LTT 8657
Mbere
Negasargun
Zhan Wen
Although boosting their influence in Orcus is the preferred goal, boosting their influence in any system at all is good. Branching out to other systems can lead to more variety in game play.
Completing missions is not the only way to achieve the goal. The in-game activities that will help boost influence will vary depending on the state the Vixens faction is in at the time. For example, if the Vixens are at war, then destroying the enemy in combat zones is good. Having said that, completing missions given by the Vixens mission rep at each station is always a good way to boost influence no matter what the state. Sort the available missions by “Influence” to find the best ones.

Our success at boosting their influence won’t be seen immediately but should be obvious one week after the activities. If you’re interested, read up on how “influence” works in the background simulation (BGS) part of the game. https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Influence

Peak Hours
During the peak hours mentioned above, let’s try to meet up with one another! There are no rules but here’s some guidelines to maximize chance of encountering one another:

  • Play on PC instead of console if you have the choice.
  • In-game, play in the private group named “Veloxi” or else in “Open”.
    • If you’re not already a member of “Veloxi” private group, request access today. Do this early!
    • If in Open, coordination using Discord becomes essential. From there you can always decide to make your own private group.
  • Use Discord to coordinate wings and multi-crew.

Prep checklist (do before GWD Days):

  • Request to join the in-game group named “Veloxi” (do this early!)
  • Be sure you can run Discord (can be run in a browser if you don’t feel like downloading it) and log into the GWJ Discord server.
  • Dust off your HOTAS
  • Move your ships to Orcus, if you want to be able to flip between them depending on the mission types.
  • Consider outfitting your larger ships with weapons suitable for multi-player, fighter bays, etc.
  • Buy the fanciest paint jobs if you want to show off.
  • If you’re not already “Allied” with the Vixen’s minor faction, then do some missions before GWJ Days so that you become “cordial” or “friendly” or “allied” with them. The best missions are unlocked when you are “friendly”.

I still don't think I ever did a wing anything in this game. Maybe I can remember how to play this week.

Stele, wings are a blast. I’m out mining but will be back in Orcus for the weekend. Veloxi also set the group to auto approve, so all it takes is searching his name under groups and clicking join to get the private group! Yay!

You PC, Stele? If so, I’d be happy to run with you a bit tonight. In about 30 minutes (8:45 est) I’ll be picking up my mining work. But if someone comes on I’ll switch out for other ventures.

Flew my alt over to Tombaugh, so Anne Trovert is there in her DBX. Paleogamer is still about 200 jumps out in his Krait, but he's only getting about 35ly a Jump so he may be a while.

Though I do have a full hold of rares from Jacques...

Commander's Log; the Galaxy has been quiet for the last, what 2 years? And it's just now that I've a peaceful rendevous in Orcus with the Vixens that the Thargoids decide to attack.

Sigh.... well, I've brought the Crozier's Revenge to the Witch Head Nebula tonight to assist in Thargoid engagements. A tug service has been commissioned to bring the Matthew Henson. 66 light-year jump range can have me to Orcus in.... well somewhere between 10 and 20 jumps. Having not had any alien encounters yet, the opportunity to make contact, though I know it can't be peaceful, is too much to pass up.

See you this weekend, commanders.

Note that the reward for this week's community goal is an unlock of the Guardian Frame Shift Drive Booster. I unlocked the same thing the old-fashioned way, which was tedious to say the least, and I still think it's the best gear/ship/weapon I have unlocked in the game thus far. It is VERY useful for all types of players.

Was trying to run some missions for the Vixens last night and running some salvage missions. Got jumped while my limpet was out and couldn't warp out because apparently that deploys your turrets for some reason and it took me too long to realize what was happening. Hello, rebuy screen...

And I got an unhappy message complaining that I lost the cargo. Yeah, and I lost an entire ship, you idiot.

If anyone wants to support the Vixens this weekend, perhaps Mbere is the place to do that. According to eddb, the Vixens are in an Election against another faction (Official Bhodha Regulatory State), and we're tied at 33.2% influence right now.

I think there are only outposts in this system, so no really big ships. Non-combat influence changes matter in elections. Maybe I'll bring my Python over there for a while. I think I've earned some bounties from the opponent; I'll have to remember not to cash those in until the election is over.

We currently have one outpost there (Suzuki Orbital) and the opponent has one (Chaffee Survey). Each of us also owns a planetary base.

According to what I've read about Elections: The highest value asset owned by the losing faction will be transferred to the winning faction.

Edit:
I flew over there and this is what it says. I don't know whether this means we're currently winning by a little, or that we've already won.

I hate when that happens.

I decided to try a shot at the Thargoid hunting community goal, which meant that I needed a Thargoid hunting ship, which meant that I needed a Guardian cannon, which sent me to a Guardian site, whic h lead to me spending way too much time trying to land my ship and remember the SRV controls.

Hrdina I’ve done quite a bit of work in Mbere today, unknowing that the Vixens were in election. Hopefully, those missions helped!

When you're in a starport, check the Galnet section for more details of the faction status. It includes details of what assets can be won or lost in the conflict. And the great part is this news report can be read anywhere the Vixens have a presence (even outside of Mbere).
In this case it says Vixens can loose Suzuki Orbital, but doesn't say what would happen if they won.

Excellent, I ran a few there this afternoon as well. Hopefully we'll win this, since we really don't have a lot of stations left.

Huh, neat, I don't think I'd noticed that before.

Hopefully that little bit of text doesn't mean that we can't win anything. The screenshot I posted implied that both our station and theirs were "in the pot".

You can also look at the Inara page for Mbere to see the influence history over the past few months. Apparently someone was boosting the Vixens back during the summer.

See my post in this forum June 25 where I experimented how much of a change in influence could occur by just selling one metric crapload of exploration data in one place. That was Mbere. I can't take credit for the later summer though.

That post would also explain why the Vixens are doing so well in Asvinici.

IIRC, the ability for a single commander to cause a big swing in Influence in a system is a function of how populous the system is. Mbere is listed at only 119,048; all the other Vixens systems are in the millions.

It was Red and Green ships (Zoso1701 and me) dropping off early Xmas presents to Tombaugh Station tonight and increasing influence at the same time. Resonating Separators for every boy and girl!IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/Qd1Qh4W.png)

Meanwhile, I had another ship blown up.

I think I'm hitting the bug where your limpet kills you. If you start accelerating away while a limpet is out, it will speed up to get to the cargo scoop. And if the scoop now happens to be on the other side of your ship, it will try to ram through your ship to get to it. Which may be why two seconds after the enemy showing up I'm at zero shields and 45% hull.

I give up.

Made another try. Just parked at the signal source with turrets deployed when the bad guys showed up. Two of them; a Viper and a Sidewinder.

Dove in, targeted the Sidewinder and took it out in a few shots. Nice. Swung around, found the other ship, and opened fire.

Then realized that Federal Security had shown up during the fight and I had just hit one of them.

Ten seconds later I've lost a third ship and am at a detention facility. So the total Elite experience.

Edit: And I'm out of rebuys, so I guess I need to do something safe for a while...
