Elite Dangerous Catch-All

We'll have to get some co-op happening at some point then dave. Being in similar timezones and all.

For a starting low-cash trade route I'd recommend running Cotton from Azeban City to Chango Dock and returning with Clothing.

If love to do that as well. Not sure how to actually find someone you already know. Anyone know how to actually name your pilot? The CDR# thing has to go.

Yeah, I posted it on the previous page. (Skimmer!) (OK, two pages back, because new page.) Go here: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18389 and follow the instructions to reserve your name.

Would love to jump in but can't justify the $180 aussie. Thats like.. 4 cartons of beer!!!

Im building a spreadsheet for all the current planets for trading. It has helped me immensely and Im tired of writing things down on scrap paper - I want to see how the economy fluctuates, if at all and if so by how much. So far it doesnt seem like it. For trading - most of the goods are superfluous (at this point) as you can identify one to two types per station that are worth your time and build from there. Once you crack 5000 credits or so you can expand to more expensive goods and so on. I havent really tried any combat beyond SP because with that single dinky laser you are asking to get killed.

Yeah, it's not a four-slab game yet

It's collaborative so create an account and update the data each stop.

And yeah, I'm not looking at getting into fights until I can upgrade to some proper dakka.

Dakka ? What's that, an Ikea laser ? Bet it fires them meatballs, I hear the low-fat ones are the ones covered in the depleted uranium.

I'm none the wiser, my Scandanavian saurian friend.

For a good buddy of mine, this question:
How do you use the panels 1 and 3 with just keyboard.
He can get into panel 1, but just go up and down and that's it.

Thanks!

Dakka. The Ork (WH40K) word for Firepower. Or indeed for Gun.

More Dakka

I'll probably pick it up next month. I wonder if my favourite trade run from Barnard's Star to Earth still works.

Your picture looked like me eating, that's why I was confused

And that's why they call it yORKshire.

Pretty sure it's q and e to go left/right and wrong and s to go side to side. Space bar does select. I'll post some useful links when I get back on my PC.

Yeah, Q and E switch tabs and Space selects.

3,q,s,space. You get used to doing that in a hurry when you realise you left your landing gear up.

Or you can use voice commander like I do and it becomes a natural flow. Not sure how you can do this with mouse and keyboard, X-52 Joystick is awesome and great for docking.

Manual link doesn't work.

Should be http://elite.frontier.co.uk/download...

Man I took a bath on these Advanced Catalyzers. Can't unload them anywhere.

I pulled those links from various forum posts and found some of it helpful. I like the trading to but it's incomplete so I'm going to stick with my spreadsheet for now. Also there is a federal distress call that's supposed to be good for farming some credits in the Eranin system, just be careful and be on the lookout for bankers. If you get cargo that's not yours, head over to Freeport to sell on their Blackmarket, no chance to get interdicted by the Feds.

This is paraphrased from a post in the forums so YMMV:

I used two trade routes in Alpha

Freeport to dahan with Minerla
Dahan to I bootis with alloys
I bootis to assellus with computers
assellus to I bootis with terrain enhancers/robotics
I bootis to eranin with domestic appliances
eranin to freeport with coffee

As you build cash

assellius to Freeport with consumer goods
Freeport to dahan with gold
dahan to I bootis with tantalum
bottis to eranin with crop enhancers
eranin to asselius with coffee/tea

will build cash

don't worry too much about weapons if just trading - if you are interdicted go 4 pips on engines boost twice and keep running then boost again you should then be able to supercruise if not boost a 4th time, Do not even think about turning to look just run away

In the Alpha 4.0, the Federal Distress Signal in the Eranin system was a cash cow with 500cr a kill, also great fun :-). I would get 100k Cr in circa five hours, so very useful to get your first Cobra MkIII.

Before going, I would recommend doing a little trading first and getting a second laser for about £6k cr to make sure you are capable of handling combat. Search the Alpha forums for the tools that people made to help trading (ie, tool to tell you what to buy and where to sell it based upon your location, funds, and cargo capacity). Very useful.

Good Luck.

I think I have now posted everything I have learned or found. I went ahead and bought a new Saitek X52 Pro to upgrade my old X52 which is getting long in the tooth. I briefly considered the Thrustmaster A-10 stick, but I love the 3D Rotation function of the Saitek's I've owned. Cuts out the need for a set of rudders.

I need to get into this. Very high learning curve even with the scenarios I played. How do you even target a planet and jump there? I need to read some stuff...

Hrm. There was a big loss of cargo outside Azeban city and I managed to scoop up a gold canister. Problem is I can't seem to sell it. I'm at Freeport and I can't sell it on the commodity market or at the black market.

edit: Sold it at a different station's black market instead.

Yay! Cash!

I finally upgraded to some gimballed lasers on my little Sidewinder. Started engaging in combat at the Federal Distress Signal and it was quite a bit of fun. I got killed twice, but I racked up 25 kills and made about 10K. It's pretty thrilling when you realize some of the kills were other players. I was killed by a Cobra MkIII and a Eagle. You really have to keep your head about you because there are some folks who like to jump in there and hit the fragile player Sidewinders. Part of the thrill, sweeping the area to make sure there are no higher level ships and then go get your kills.

Just wanted to mention that I am an also in Beta, think the game is shaping up to be something amazing, but I don't want to play it too much as I don't want to ruin it for myself.

I tend to play each build a minimal amount and then leave it until the next one, still not upgraded from the sidewinder.

I know it doesn't help much with the testing, but I did donate £200 so I don't feel bad. (actually I did submit 2 bugs during alpha)

I think this the entire Beta period is going to take a long time though, there is so much content to be added, I wonder if they will really release in 2014?

Anyone else get an email to say that their character name had been changed to the one that they had registered ?

In the event that you are shot at (or more likely, that you shoot down) a pilot called Matthew Gideon, well, that's my char.

Just got mine. Cmdr Maqusan reporting.

Can we have a moment to appreciate the sound design?

The zhinganinganinganinganing of an accelerating engine.
The rolling thunder of the frameshift drive.
The BWAMF of a hyperspace jump.

Definitely giving my new headphones a workout.

Agreed. The combat sounds are well done as well. The docking and station sounds are incredible. The settling of the ship, the clamps attaching, the lowering of the lifts. Nice ambiance.
