Elite Dangerous Catch-All

Yeah, power is not an issue right now with my 8A power plant, but the heat is certainly an issue. So I'll have to think about that.

for anaconda, i STRONGLY recommend a g3+ armored power plant. improves power and efficiency at the cost of only a few tons.

What's the reasoning? I'm just curious.

I surrendered and double-dipped on PC, since Frontier's half price sale was still on last night. Just in the nick of time, I guess, because it's not on sale any more. The Frontier version includes a Steam key, which is a good thing, because I was looking at a 5 hour download when I tried installing via the Frontier client. Took about 20 minutes with Steam.

I honestly can't tell the graphical difference between PC and PS4 Pro in "Quality" mode. I haven't done much space fighting or planet scanning in my PC Sidewinder yet, so maybe I'll start noticing soon.

I am going to miss using SIXAXIS for headlook. Maybe there's a way to set that up with Steam's PS4 controller configuration.

I can only imagine the armor is for PvP purposes? In hours and hours and hours of PvE combat I've never had an AI enemy target a module, and never had enough damage to lose a module organically.

Nice to be proven correct.

I know I'm suggesting starting down a dark and dangerous road here, but TrackIR is amazing, and once you have it you'll wish every game supported it.

Also, you can get a pretty decent HOTAS for a reasonable price these days, and the combo of a HOTAS and TrackIR makes the best part of Elite — the truly special, immersive experience of sitting in your ship — even better.

Purely anecdotally, I've had my FSD take enough damage in PvE combat that I had to go through several reboot cycles to get it working again. It happened one of the first times I took my Chieftain into a CZ and inspired me to put module reinforcement in one of the military compartments.

I don't have room on my desk for a throttle and stick, and I have never been much of a fan of flight sticks anyway. I am plenty immersed with my controller.

I don't get TrackIR. I mean I understand how it works, but the notion of moving my head around and still looking at a stationary screen seems weird to me.

I wonder if Google cardboard would work okay.

2 reasons. 1 you get improved heat and efficiency. This can allow for some pretty nasty laser/rail builds and it lets you go all in on shield boosters and scbs. With 3 or 4 res boosters and laser resistance biweaves, you can tank whole wings with 4 pips to shields while you kill at your leisure.
2, the power plant of the conda is horribly exposed and an npc with a rail, missiles or plasma can toast you very, very quickly if your shields come down.

I used to use an overcharged plant, but i decided to try armored after i got my ass handed to me doing wing assassinations solo. I ended up almost dying repeatedly due to overheating and my shields not keeping pace. Now i can run dual 6a scbs at the same time, keep firing all my weapons and keep an afm and a repair limpet ready for in combat use in case i get jumped by multiple large ships and my shields do fail.

Huh. It hadn't even occurred to me that the armored power plant mod might have benefits besides making the power plant more resistant to damage -- I just saw the name and kept going without looking at the details.

I decided to check out these Ram Tah Guardian Ruins that people have been talking about. Late to the party? maybe.
Anyway, I managed to land right on top of one of those relic pillars that come out of the ground. It pierced my ship but luckily did not come out through the top.

I didn't earn it through espionage, but I certainly earned it.

I've played the PC version less than 20 hours, and I'm already ready to go back to the PS4 version.

Ultra at 1080p doesn't look any better than PS4 Pro in quality mode.

Most of the time I have to restart it at least once to get it to recognize my controller.

It takes up to a minute to connect to a server.

I have other weird server communication errors that I never see on PS4. I've been dumped to the main menu due to some cryptic error several times on PC, never on PS4.

Kinda wish I'd bought it on Steam in the first place, as I would have requested a refund by now.

You only have about 2 hours to request a refund on Steam

I wish visiting a Thargoid Surface Site wasn't such a pain. I wanted to take a look, but turns out it quite a a ton of work.

So I tried engineering instead. Another pain! I needed Modified Embedded Firmware for the G5 upgrade for my multicannons. But that's only available at these bases. And they shoot at you if you even get close. And you get a fine and a bounty. What the hell. That failed trip almost cost me several million after being interdicted by a player for my bounty. Ugh!

Last night was a frustrating night. But I did some engineering at Felicity anyway.

You can get Modified Embedded Firmware as mission rewards, I've been selecting passenger missions that include them to build up my stocks.

I had forgotten about that. I'll try to hit up Darnielle's Progress again, I have a good rep there.

Yeah lots of the engineer materials are now in missions, since a couple patches ago. Makes things much easier.

Looks like the latest patch introduced more guardian technology.

Guardian FSD Boosters, Guardian Distributor, and a Guardian Shard Cannon.

EDIT: Some people believe the booster is currently broken.

While it's nice to have G5 upgrades, a max G4 overcharged multicannon blueprint under the new system is equal to, or exceeds the original G5 mod. G4 is already very OP.

Unfortunately you're arguing with my OCD :).

So I got this the other day.

So far it's better than the video game.

Ouch

Veloxi, I hadn't known that you were into tabletop RPG's. Cool! I wonder if there's any possibility of a GWJ'er VTT game.

Meanwhile, in the electronic version, my latest misadventure: I refitted my Chieftain with AX multicannons and a Xeno Scanner and headed for Irandan to try them out. I couldn't find any Scouts, and quickly learned that the only difference the experimental gear made one-on-one against an Interceptor is that the scanner can tell me which subtype of Thargoid I'm losing badly to.

What is the recommended experimental effect for power plants? Right now I have Thermal Spread, on an Overcharged G1 powerplant.

Back when I had more time, I ran groups based in Serenity, Heavy Gear and Fading Suns RPGs. Fun times.

Oh, did you also know someone wrote up both Wing Commander and Starflight RPGs?

If you are ever puzzled by something in this game, and you feel like asking for help from a larger audience than we have here, I have a suggestion. Stay the hell away from the elite dangerous subreddit. Not only is that community extremely negative toward the game, they are actively hostile towards new players or anyone with a question about game mechanics. It is by far the least helpful game community I have encountered in eleven years of redditing.

I'm going to disagree with you on that second part. The daily ask-a-question thread is very helpful and I have never seen a bad response on there.

They certainly do complain about it periodically but people will always complain online.

Elite is turning me into a real bastard. The other night I was pulling a Shkreli and selling meds with jacked up prices to a system with a disease outbreak. Tonight I am selling opioids to a poor farming community.

But hey, at least I'm not a slaver. There are some lines I just won't cross.
