Community Goals (CG)
Community Goals can fall into several categories (pulled from zeroKFE). Participating in a CG can bring you a multi-million credit payout even from participating in a very minor way.

- Selling a specific kind of commodity to a specific station.
- Cashing in specific kinds of bounties at a specific station.
- Cashing in specific kinds of war bonds (payment from combat zones) at a specific station.
- Turning in exploration data at a specific station.

A nice run down on some options to tweak the HUD colors by Stele

Nifty
Really interesting AWS re:Invent conference talk about Elite and the AWS back end it runs on. Thanks to athros for posting!

PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICS!

Thanks for reminding me I needed a new HOTAS/rudder/seat setup, too. One more thing on my wishlist! Three more things...and a couple more monitors. Some things.

Stop it!

Liking the HUD. Very fluid and lots of info. Very dynamic.

Will post more pics later.

I haven't been paying much attention to this, but the way the role they're setting up for heat and visibility in the game is really interesting/promising.

Combat so far is very interesting. Being able to see thrusters flare on your target gives you a sense of where they are changing course to and can help in combat.

Does that mean space combat is no longer about chasing a dot on screen?

Looking very pretty and stable so far. Just a series of combat scenarios for now, but promising.

Broke down and ordered a Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS setup just for this and eventually Star Citizen. I am weak.

Thought I was in for the alpha on this, but I am in for the beta. Was also thinking of upgrading to a Saitek X52 Pro. But thought I would wait till the beta to see how good/bad my EVO cyborg handles it... being held together with duct tape and glue right now but still works okay.

Looking forward to Elite a bit more than Star Citizen, and so far love the look. From what i have read so far, the alpha sounds pretty solid.

My X52 Pro arrives today. Excitement!

I always thought that "chasing a dot" thing was actually pretty damned accurate. Sometimes graphics limitations have beneficial side effects.

I *really* want to play this - but not badly enough to drop $165.

I'd like to hear some impressions. I understand it's alpha, but I'd still like to hear impressions.

Any word on when the beta starts? This is starting to look good.

A bit quiet out here Who is playing it and what are your impressions?

The beta is out now, but they are asking a ridiculous amount of money for an unfinished game.
Unless you find beta testing a sneak preview and are happy to do so.

Having said that, this might be a day 1 buy for me Just hope to hear a bit more from
some Goodjers on their thoughts.

I'm interested.. but not at that price.

Had wrong info. EDIT

I picked it up this morning. Will provide some initial thoughts later. Hoping to put in a full day today on it - or at least a couple of uninterrupted hours (says married with 4 and 16 yr old boys and in laws visiting guy)

** (edit) Quick note: You only get the Alpha1.1 client which is a series of stock SP scenarios with the Beta version available now. However, on 30 May it turns into the full client with th eliving universe and trading etc...

** Played a couple of the scenarios, very good "spacey" feel. I thought the controls were good and the sound and graphics were well done.

Cool, how much is it now to get in?

It's now $150 which gives you access to each step of the beta starting 30 May. Right now, you have access to 10 SP scenarios that get progressively more difficult and expand the game dynamics. First mission - shoot stationary drums, second mission attack another ship that is unarmed, 3rd mission fight another fighter, 4th mission recon and engage multiple fighters and so on. Structured very similar to a tutorial to familiarize yourself with the game mechanics. Starting 30 May you get the "full world game", introduces the galaxy, dynamic economy, trading, piracy, counter-piracy etc... Additionally, you'll get the full release as well as all the DLC's. So full game is typically $60, and DLC is typically $20 bucks. So they will have to release 4 DLC packs to truly get your moneys worth, discounting the value of playing a "much desired" game early. I will tell you that I played the 3rd mission quite a bit just to play with controls and flight models. I enjoyed it - alot! Sound is superb, engine spools up, spools down. Chain gun weapon has a spool up time and sounds appropriately meaty, misses sound different then hits. The laser weapons also sound good with noticeable differences in hits/misses sounds. Graphics are superb and the controls are tight. I was able to select my X-52 from the drop down menu and found that the sock mapping was well laid out, I may still tweak a few here and there, but you could play tight out of the box and not mess with a thing. The cockpit was well laid out and while there was a wealth of information available - it wasnt overwhelming. Elegant may be the right word, it all just felt "right". I think for the space sim crowd - this will definitely be a winner. If they can pull off the dynamic economy and trade system - this will be what I wanted and have missed since Freespace and Privateer. The combat and "spaciness" they have nailed in my opinion, it will be the AI and "details" that will be the crux of the beta. That being said from all those folks and media that have been playing the full version it appears they have done incredibly well to date.

I was incredibly skeptical they'd make a game worthy of all the money people threw at it, but everything about this has been incredibly positive. Good work on them.

I just ordered a new gaming laptop. My current Nvidia 330M won't be able to really do much graphic wise.
But, once I have the new one, I will definitely order this game. Not for the full amount. Will buy DLC
later on I suppose.
Watched some other vids about how they go about making the game. Interesting and it seems to
look and feel great. So am glad you can confirm that SpyNavy. It has been a while since Elite 1.0

Really excited that you decided to get it.

Please continue with the wonderful impressions.

SpyNavy, do you live stream sometimes? Or maybe willing to consider this with Elite?
Haven't checked Twitch if some do already.
But I rather watch a goodjer if possible

I've never live streamed, but I do have a twitch account. I'll look into it. Right now im struggling with the "stealth mission". You have the ability to run silent, but I apparently haven't mastered the execution.

Agreed. I was very impressed with the Alpha build I'm playing and can't wait to get the full beta on the 30th. Going to try and complete all the sp missions before that, if I can work out the stealth mission properly. I haven't read any forums or guides so I'm sure there is an answer. Fun even if I do keep getting discovered

Found this guy streaming some ED. The game is really nice...

Finally figured out the silent running - stealth aspect. It involves more than just silent running mode. You have to manage your heat through the power systems menu. Simple once you realize what you need to do, involves some shifting back and forth between menus, but with some key binds and practice, it becomes easily doable.

I saw one of the devs talking about it. To make yourself invisible, or less visible, turn things of or manage it better.
Pretty cool mechanic.

Yeah it reminds me of an episode of Battlestar Galactica. However, I wonder - did they forget the invention of radar in the future?

Good point, not sure how they are going to talk themselves out to of that one.

It's infra-radar!
