I’m happy to reveal that “Halo 5: Guardians,” the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015. In the tradition of every “Halo” game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project.

In that announcement that I read there was also this:

'...

Microsoft announced plans Friday to release the video game sequel "Halo 5: Guardians" for the Xbox One and a "Halo" television series to be produced by Steven Spielberg in fall 2015. The next entry in the sci-fi shooter series starring super-soldier Master Chief will runs at 60 frames per second on a new engine created by "Halo" developer 343 Studios.

...'

i.e. a tv series is coming.

It's interesting that the 60 frames per second is in the announcement. Seems odd. What if it's 640 x 480 at 60 frames per second? Will gamers love it?

The first Halo was... did gamers love that?

For what it's worth the only Halo that didn't feel silky smooth to me was the last one and it was the only one not made by Bungie. It was still fun but it killed my desire to continue playing it split-screen after I beat it. This is a sticking point for a lot of fans. Also, COD has always been around 60 FPS and BF4 is as well.

Not CE (I'm a PC heathen!)...

Some click-bait-for-thought from Polygon: Destiny's troubled launch was the best-case scenario for Halo 5.

If the game had been a commercial and creative triumph, Halo might have quickly seemed like a thing of the past, a herald for the arrival of the true space-shooter king.

As it is, things have worked out pretty perfectly for 343 Industries...

I'd hardly describe Destiny's launch as "troubled", but to each their own.

Hey, no analysis of the click-bait byline allowed!!!

I don't know about Halo 5 but every time I play the Crucible it makes me want to play Halo instead with its much better executed multi-player. I still think Reach is a better game then Halo 4 so it is still up in the air if 343 can carry the torch or not.

I played a couple of rounds of the Beta last night. Much better experience than the the MCC. I think some die hards are gonna meltdown, but this was great fun. The problem folks with have is that it might feel more like quake arena than Halo.

But it looks and feels great.

Agreed. I have played a few rounds today and have really enjoyed it. I, personally, love the additions, although the "power weapons" may be a bit too powerful, especially the sword. All in all, I really enjoy the game, such as it is at this time.

How's this for a "diehard meltdown"??

I played two games and am squarely in the completely disappointed camp. The gameplay and pacing couldn't be more removed from what I loved about the Halo games thru Reach. It reeks of chasing COD and the "esports" crowd.

Honestly, if you took away the announcers voice and the weapon list, I don't think I could tell you I was playing a halo mp game.

I guess I will give it a few more games and see what the official beta changes bring about, but I couldn't be more disappointed thus far.

This is the Halo thread. Woooo!

Again, sorry.

In response to to the other thread, netcode really isn't as much of a worry for me. MCC was dorked to all hell, but the issue was bringing a lot of old pieces together. Halo 5 will be one piece of netcode, and the demo was pitch perfect, for me. There may be issues, but I wouldn't use MCC as an indication.

There was a beta and I don't remember hearing about netcode problems with that.

Yeah, that's what I meant by demo. I played it, and it went perfectly.

I really think the MCC was a massive miscalculation on how was it would be to port the code of 4 games into one package. Halo 5 does not present the same obstacle.

It could still release in bad shape, but it would be for different reasons. And the beta really was great.

Whoops, I must have been skimming when I replied earlier.

MS just posted the opening cutscene on youtube.

What do you guys think of the opening cutscene?

Take this with a grain of salt, as it is just my opinion: I'm really not so sure about how this is going to go... 343's video of them saying basically "Anybody can get lucky once, this is our follow-up (I think they said "sophomore") effort, we've got to show the world that we can really pull this off" sort of hurts my opinion of them. I feel like they're daring us by saying that; daring us to measure them by the Bungie stick and really scrutinize their work. It looks alright, but so far... I don't think it looks as good as their own Halo4. It also looks like a whole bucket of "it's CGI, we can do ANYthing!" When everything is "extreme" nothing is extreme. When everybody's a bad-ass... nobody's a bad ass. This feels like the same eye-roll-fest that was Halo2's campaign. Again, just my opinion. It'll be great to see the game in action, and I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Well if TexasRay is right about the feel (and the trailer seems to look it), I'm out BUT I do have to say I was totally stoked seeing a spitten' image of Nathan Fillion and his voice as one of the squadies. Wow. ( he did voice only one of the squadies in ODST).

What did Certis say about it?

My mistake, it was TexasRay.

I think he voiced the same squadie in ODST. "Buck." The character is an ODST that gets a SPARTAN upgrade, as far as I know, some kind of secondary SPARTAN program. I don't know all the details, sadly. And yes, the face tech looked pretty darn awesome.

Since the beta, they have announced and showed some good looking videos of Warzone gameplay - I'm hopeful that will scratch the old Halo MP itch that the "Arena" beta sorely lacked.

One thing 343 missed and wound up killing Halo 4 MP for me and our group that had been playing Halo MP together since the original LAN parties on the Xbox was the lack of single flag CTF. I haven't seen them mention/show anything about custom games and private matches in Halo 5 and that has me worried that the focus is more on the 24 player Warzone and 4 v 4 Arena.

Even with my complaints and concerns, I really doubt I will have the backbone to pass on Halo 5...I'm guess I'm just that big of a sucker.

I love a FPS with a strong focus on SP and narrative. I usually pass on the COD titles because their focus is clearly on MP but Halo usually balances the 2 well so I'll likely pick this up at some point. I'm just not sure if it'll be at launch.

Same here... I'm whining, but I'll be there, and like I said "hope to be pleasantly surprised."

Yep, that'll be me, too. There's no way I can stay away, so please let it be good.

Wow, guess I'm a little astonished this on page 6 and over a year old with only 28 comments?

Are goodjers really that "meh" on this game?

I agree with the CGI cutscene thoughts you have here...why does it need to be this "extreme"? I've never once, in any halo game, snowboarded down a mountain while ripping through covenant, with a giant ship crashing behind me, and explosions everywhere. I'm also curious how, after watching this over the top cut scene, we begin the game? Every halo game has begun with a controls tutorial - which seems awfully dull after watching 4 Spartan-IV's do this in CGI.

Oh, now please look at this red-dot to your left - ok, good job Spartan!

That said - I'm excited for this game. I think 343 is building better stories than has existed before in Halo games. 4 was a wacky story to me, but I've never read a single halo book or any of the other lore. Listening to the "Hunt The Truth" podcast series was pretty awesome though. The 60FPS conversion and graphics look fantastic with the usual over-done color palette. I think Warzone might be my cup of tea, but after failing miserably at Halo:MCC MP, jury is out on whether I'll be decent enough to enjoy round after round.
