Double post >_<
The first thing I did in Far Cry 3 was take all the outposts which removed all the guards patrolling in vehicles, etc. I've been deliberately leaving outposts this time so I get all the random encounters in the open world which I enjoy. My impression is that, even with outposts taken, you'll still get enemy activity in the surrounding areas but I could be wrong.
I'm really enjoying it so far. A few glitchy things, but nothing major. Floating pigs and animals that just disappear.
I did learn the setting a rhino on fire does nothing. NOTHING!

you sure the pig wasn't being picked up by an eagle? Cause that happens.

I have seen that. Nope, I was able to walk around it while it just floated still in space.
Got to open an xmas present a bit early, and played for oh, maybe an hour and a half on PS4. Have to say, the game just does not feel or look next gen, and of course it so far plays pretty much exactly like FC3, but really I didn't expect a whole lot more. Nice to see that unexplored map and know there's a lot of gameplay ahead, kinda one of those "comfort food" games that fill the gaps between other titles IMO, this should last me a while at least.

Pretty sure in the options you can go back and set all the outposts back to enemy control. So if you want to, clear them all out, then reset them again and do it again.
You can but only after completing the campaign and clearing all the outposts. I'm happy with the balance of activities in Far Cry 4.
Far Cry still hasn't known what to do after Far Cry 2. The sense of being a true stranger in a strange land, how the ugliness and amorality of what you were doing was laid bare, the way the medicine enhanced the theme that you were just ahead of death, just staving it off for now. It's been replaced by so much gameyness, the syringes that once were a life and death necessity now give random bonuses - I dunno about you guys, but do you use these advanced syringes? They were superfluous in FC3 and they are again in FC4. I'm sure some committee said, don't punish the player, reward them! Positive reinforcement, not negative, right? It just becomes another optional game system I don't care about. Fine just give me those green leaves that "auto craft" healing syringes, the only thing that really matters. It still irks me to this day that so many people cried about how fast the checkpoints respawned in FC2, this genius game design and they focus on the one unpolished aspect that didn't really matter. Probably the same folks that complained that FC3 became boring once you'd cleared out all the bases and nothing much was going on, I guess I'll shoot a pig.
Ugh, it's still mindless fun. It's just something that had one spark of greatness and has been smoothed over into a more traditional experience. And no doubt the sales figures validate these decisions to the bean counters. Well those little helicopters are cool. Wrecking fools from the back of an elephant is cool. It's worth playing but it's not special.
As an aside, did you look at the arms of that female Golden Path co-leader. Her face and expressions look pretty good, but then, look at those stupid arms, they look like those bendy rubber toys with a wire in there. Bigtime fail.
Careful with the new 1.6 patch. Apparently if you're karma level 8 or higher you can't save your games. Fix is in the works but geez....
Oh and the patch resets your graphics settings too.
Ubisoft is batting a 1000 this year...
This showed up under the Christmas tree for Xbox One. I'll be on randomly if folks want to hop in and do weird shit with hippos.

Wow. I'm nearly Karma level 7. I'd better start being mean to people just to be on the safe side.

Those Himalayan hippos are the worst

There was another quick patch that came out today. Did that fix the bug? I did notice the game ran a bit slower than normal. Felt a bit janky.
Shangri-La is friggin' gorgeous.
If you are hanging on the login screen for Far Cry 4 on PS4 it does eventually give up the ghost and let you play singleplayer but only after an age. I only stuck with it for as long as it took because I was writing a forum post about how frustrating it was :).

Huh, weird. I've noticed that since the PSN login shenanigans today and yesterday that all my games are taking longer to get to the title screen...
[edit]In fact, disconnecting the console from the internet has fixed this load time issue.
PSA: exploding animals with a mortar costs you karma.

I use the hunting one regularly, since it allows me to scope out a guard post and pick up bad guys that are hidden to the camera. The melee one I've used two or three times when hunting animals. While it's thankfully less annoying a system than FC3, I do agree it doesn't need to be a system at all.
FC2 was a bit of an abberation I think. I do miss the feeling I had when playing it - and I still have a copy - but I'm not dissapointed that we've still got a fun open world game that we can play co-op.

Even with all the outposts taken there's still a little bit of enemy activity. I do this too though, take all the outposts first and then worry about everything else after the threat is clear. For the most part that isn't a big deal, but I did find it was an issue in two places (while working on 100% completion):
First, to get the achievement for killing a bunch of people with elephants, it was hard to find people to kill once I had an elephant. Storming an objective with an elephant usually results in a quickly dead elephant. You really need the onesy-twosy guys out at checkpoints if you want your elephant to survive for a while and get all the kills you need.
Second, once all the outposts are secured there are never any more trucks generated for you to hijack. This means you can't get the three hijacked trucks you need.
Anyway, most people probably won't go for the 100% but just in case you do--those are some gotchas with clearing the outposts. Once I completed the game I had to reset the outposts to get those last few objectives.

That explains why I'd had a shorter login time the day before. I was off line.
Picked this up on the 360 over the weekend, am having a blast. Only about 2 hours in, but killing a squad by throwing meat and then having a bear eat them is something I am not sure will ever get boring.
I am looking for a Co-Op partner on the PS4 for the 2 trophies
Brother In Arms
Liberate 1 Outpost playing as Hurk (Campaign Co-op only).
Changing Lanes
Perform a Vehicle Takedown from the passenger seat of a vehicle (Campaign Co-op only).

We can take turns on both
For those on the PC playing through Steam, if you want to skip those unskippable vanity promos at the start just right click the game in your game list -> click Properties and then "Set Launch Options" and add "-skipintro" (minus the quotes). Will take you straight to the Press Any Key screen.
Also, I know we have a Steam thread for connecting with people, but is there a Uplay or any other game site thread for gathering UserIDs? I've invited a few names that I searched and I'm fairly certain are GWJers, but I see a lot of people on Steam with FC4 that I don't think are in my friend list in Uplay. Wasn't sure if there was a convenient place to visit with all the IDs. Like Cobble above, I wouldn't mind knocking out a couple of the co-op achievements.

Is there a -skipintro for the uplay version? I'd love to bypass all those vids all the time.

I can do it. I'm in the UK so it might be tricky to sync up but it's within the realms of possibility.

You'll have to create a shortcut to the .exe and add the argument that way. Or you could use a mod.

Add your Uplay name there.

Thanks
I've also added myself to the list.
I added my details to the list as well. Did anyone have issues connecting to the server last night? It wasn't a big deal as I played off-line, but it was the first time I had any issues with this Ubi game.
I'm loving this game so far. The other night I flew across the land to ambush Pagan's death convoy, took out the first truck with C4, swam across a lake, jumped on an elephant and took out the remaining trucks by ramming them. What other game lets you do that?

Great video. I loved Far Cry 2. I enjoyed Far Cry 3, and I'm sure I will play FC 4 at some point. Far Cry 3/4 brings the goofy action, while FC 2 is wonderfully dark.
Today I learned that Asian Rhinos are mean, nasty sons of Female Doggoes that will gladly chase after a pickup and grind you to paste.
