Far Cry 4 Catch-All

Far Cry 4 announced

Announced today, Far Cry 4 will release this year on November 18 in the US and November 20 in EMEA territories. The game will be available on both generations of consoles – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – along with Windows PC.

Taking a sharp turn away from the lush island jungles of the top-rated Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4 is set in Kyrat, an untamed region currently ruled by a despotic self-appointed king. But don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by the achingly beautiful views; Kyrat is a wild land full of perils. Once again, players will be able to craft their own stories as they travel through this exotic open world teeming with wildlife – using their wits along with an assortment of powerful weapons and diverse vehicles.

I was worried for a minute, but Far Cry 3 launched in Fall 2012, so a two year turn-around isn't too bad.

Don't forget Blood Dragon, which released in May of 2013.

Side project, smaller team I'm guessing.

It would be nice if the story in this was either non-existent/very minimalist (make your own ala FC2) or was at least not vomitous like 3. I hope the devs learned something from the last one but this will be a wait and see game for me.

Well yeah, but it's people that would have been working on FC4. Don't get me wrong; I liked FC3:BD a lot.

Two years minus the Blood Dragon development seems rather soon, but this is Ubisoft, so I guess it's business as usual for them.

I really enjoyed FC3 when I could avoid the horrible story missions and the game just let me have fun. That said, I might skip FC4 unless I see plenty of GWJers saying that it's amazing or something.

Wow, Saints Row much? Is this going to have super powers too?

Note to the dev team: No grenades rolling down hills = no purchase.

I would love a more open-ended story for a game like Far Cry. It would be great to have the world be a living place with various factions you could work for or against to accomplish your own goals, sort of like Boiling Point: Road to Hell. But I suppose that is probably too ambitious for a AAA game nowadays.

My thoughts exactly!

Here's hoping it recalls FC2! Niche, so unlikely.

This. Between the unbelievably bad story, the hand-holding, the irritating crafting mechanic, the weak AI, and the poor weapon presentation, I dropped FC3 almost immediately. There was literally nothing in it for me, which is a stark contrast to FC2. I would love to see an attempt at returning to the FC2 format.

I love you, man.

Sold! I loved FC 3 aside from douchebag main character.

I loved FC2 and enjoyed FC3. I do hope they tone down the hand holding from FC3. I liked the stealth, the shooting, the exploration, but the screen was so busy and it broke immersion with the constant pop-ups telling me where to go and what to do.

I'm hoping for the base systems of FC3, with less direction and more open like Just Cause 2.

Yup.

One, please.

Hope it's decent. I had fun in 3, even though the story was pretty bad, the gameplay was really good. 2 was ok, but those respawning checkpoints killed it for me.

Terrible cover art. I still need to play FC3.

What is it with bad guys with weird haircuts subjugating local populations and this game series?

Bring back the trigens!

Okay, I didn't really mean that... but seriously, is this what Ubisoft have defined "FarCry" to be?

Also, that harpoon gun would have been really useful in FC3 against those sharks.... not so sure about its use in mountainous terrain!

Nah, you really don't. Maybe Blood Dragon.

I think it depends what you're into. FC3 is kind of like an MMO in structure. Not my bag, but a lot of people love it.

I own both.

You will probably love it.

Open world ≠ MMO

Far Cry 3 was on my pile of shame for some time and I just recently started it. Loads of fun, but yes the cheese factor is high on the main quest. A little bit of Skyrim, a little bit of Red Dead, and a Tomb Raider vibe.

I thought this was an interesting take on the art of FC4- a pointed argument that it is racist.

Oh it's absolutely racist. Which after the magical negroes of FC3 leaves me pretty not hopeful for a good story in FC4.

Color me interested. Here's to hoping it's more like FC2 than FC3.
