The Golf Club

Sorry, fogrob, I would definitely enjoy that but I'm on the PS4.

Has anyone upgraded to the "Collector's Edition" to get the new Season Mode? With EA's PGA Tour game coming out soon, I'm not sure I want to put down another $10 on this game when I might not be playing in a few weeks...

I don't plan on upgrading, the base game is more than sufficient for how I want to play.

I've been playing a good amount of "multiplayer" with friends as of late (that term is a bit generous, real-time ghost would be more accurate.) The turn enable doesn't work properly sometimes, typically I will back out and Continue the game to get back into turn order with my fellow players. But otherwise it works as advertised. The replay of your opponents can be quite inaccurate, for instance if I have a putting glance on the hole, if may appear as a made hole on another person's client. This can lead to some mismatched commentary, but it's typically not that big of an occurrence.

As someone who played a lot of this game solitary, I'm really loving the multiplayer. It's not perfect, but it allows me to relax for a couple hours with people and shoot the sh*t. Fun stuff.

We should definitely get a tournament going at some point. Count me in.

I'd be down for a GWJ tourney...

I'd be in for a tournament. Asynchronous, right?

With Rocket League reinspiring my multiplayer addiction, I'm gung ho for some Golf Club tourney action. The list of interested players thus far are:

I'm going to friend all of you on Steam this afternoon and hopefully we can start this up!

I've published a "GWJ Golf Tourney" tour consisting of the following courses.

Two Rivers Golf Clubs - 9 Hole - 36 Par - 3235 Yds. - Hard
The Fernacre Club - 18 Hole - 72 Par - 6730 Yds. - Hard
Sonoran Golf & Country Club - 18 Hole - 72 Par - 7242 Yds. - Hard

I... did not do well. This is the first time I've played each of these courses, and with winds in access of 12mph I had a rough go of it. I believe I ended up with a score of +21 when all was said and done. Yeesh! Hopefully others can fare better. This tour ends within in a week, I hope those interested get a chance to play. Enjoy!

So how is this on the X-Box One?

Has anyone else tried the Seasons? At first it was fun - I was able to dominate in Amateur, and got 3rd place in the Pro-Am. Then I tried the Pro level and can't even crack the top 15 in the first event. My overall handicap is around +5.

Is it a steep difficulty curve for others, or maybe that first event is just a beast, or is it the most likely scenario - that I simply suck at this game?

I'm setting up a 14 day, 4 round tourney for this, entitled GWJ Winter Open. If you're interested, friend me up on steam so you can join. It'll be at Flathead and have straight, non-handicap scoring. Good luck everyone!

I don't think this is cross platform, so I guess this will just be for the PC guys.

just got back into this game, you guys still playing?

PC or Console? It's probably been a month for me.

New game out June 27

Looking forward to it! I played the heck out of the first one until I hit a difficulty wall in the seasons. I tried "Rory McIlroy PGA Tour" but bounced off it hard for some reason.

i'm in

I wasn't a fan of the first game. It seemed more like a work in progress that never got finished.

But this looks like they are nailing down the game pretty nicely, with some good social features. I'm looking forward to it.

i thought it was ok, got kinda stale after a bit. i think they added quite a bit after i stopped playing though.

hopefully the tournaments, societies, etc in this one are better.

I'm probably picking this up. Didn't play the first game so it's a risk whether I'll like it or not but I've been in the mood for a golf game that isn't Hot Shots arcadey. Not sure if it will be the PC or PS4 version. I'm leaning PC but my friend is still up in the air on PC or PS4.

I just put down for it on Steam as well. I had a free month on EA Access earlier in the spring and played a bunch of Rory McElroy PGA Tour, which has me itching to play a golf game that isn't. . . that.

I pre-ordered this and saw it come available last night, but could not get to it till this morning.

Don't like the sound of clubs hitting the ball. The sound coming out of the sand is bad. I played the easy course (Blackstone?) and during holes 5-8, everything took on a blue hue. Turned the commentator off.

Looked good, although the draw is a bit clumsy at times. Thus far with limited play, (just 9 holes), it seem's about the same except more options. I still wish these golf games would let you save a game in progress, at least after 9 holes, for those that have a hard time committing time to a full round.

Anyway, a quick and dirty look at this for what it's worth.

I thought I heard you could hop in and out of a round any time you wanted?

I just read this on Push Square:

Moreover, 18-hole rounds can be exited and resumed as you feel fit, which is a nice touch when you consider the kind of investment a full-round requires.

Maybe you can't do that with 9-hole rounds?

I was pretty unimpressed with the very little bit I played last night. For one, it crashed twice on me, both times due to the network conning out.

The first time was during the tutorial, and I finally had to go back to the console dash and quit out because it was hung up. When I went back, I loaded up a coursecto give it a try, a TGC official course, and it crashed after my second shot, again because it lost connection to the server. I don't know why a single player game needed the network so much.

I'm also pretty annoyed that they left in the moronic commentary guy. He sounds awful, and says really dumb stuff. It just sounds cheap. Will be turning that crap off.

I thought it looked good, but it made RMPGAT's pop in look like nothing. The shadows would radically change as the ball was in flight. This isn't a big deal, but it's pretty clear they have no idea how to optimize for consoles.

I'm going to give it another go, and hopefully find a nice balance, and hope the network stuff was just first day jitters. My network was fine. I even checked it via the console, and it was the usual 130 Mbps down. And the game of Madden I played after was smooth and perfect.

Honestly, this just increases the odds I keep my PS4 around, because Sony's new Everybody Loves Golf looks like a stunningly beautiful and polished game of golf, albeit more of the arcade variety.

Maybe it will play better on the XOX.

Some worrying stuff here. At the same time, Pastapadre posted to Twitter that he'd have a review up later today, but that the game is "really good." No idea what platform he played on, but perhaps the technical issues are more prevalent on console than on PC?

I'll have to see how it goes on my PS4 tonight. I've been watching someone stream it on the Xbone all morning without any technical issues. Here's hoping I have a similar experience.

Edit: Correction, I obviously couldn't miss the pop in. Definitely seen it. Just don't care about it in a golf game. I'm more interested in the mechanics which is something that is hard to find for anyone looking for a golf sim. Hot Shots is definitely my jam when I want arcade golf.

played a little bit on PC, no issues.

i created a society "GWJ Golf Club", I set it to private, which i think means you have to request admission from what i can tell. let me know if you can see it, if not i'll make it public.

I got a quick nine holes in over lunch (PC version) and there is a category when you choose to play a round called Resumable. I saved and exited after hole 9 and it appears that I can resume from there, so thumbs up.

On the whole, I've got a favorable impression so far (using mouse swing). Expectedly, it doesn't hold your hand like EA's game does and I missed my share of fairways trying to play the angles. It's pretty, but rough grass textures are a bit flat and water has an off-putting shimmer effect on my screen. I have visual settings set to High, but I might try Ultra just to see how that effects them. VO is pretty flat, but I expected to turn that off anyway.

Right now, it feels like a very satisfying game of golf. I did find one issue on hole 9 where I was in the rough, just short of the green, and I couldn't get a club head on the ball. It just kept swinging under it and the ball would move maybe an inch. I maxed out my shots just moving it forward a couple yards to the green. Really hoping that doesn't recur, as that's a round killer.

Sortimat, I sent an invite request to the society you set up. Not sure how frequently I'll be able to participate in events, but I appreciate you taking the time to do that!

I must of missed this when I quickly played 9. I'll look again, or find out what the mechanism is to do it.
Thanks for at least letting me know it 'should' work. Good news if so.

Just gone through the tutorial lessons and requested to join the society. Looking forward to seeing some of you out there!!

I wasn't expecting a day one 4gb patch so guess I won't be playing much if at all tonight.

Weird, my XB1 version of the gamer was just 4.7 GB for the whole game.

That said, I'm out. I had Microsoft process a refund. I tried online, but my play time was 2 hours and 6 minutes, so I had to call and ask a human to help me out. They were friendly and issued a refund immediately.

Seriously, the disconnects were bad. The laggy menus that you stared at, waiting to load new menus was worse.

The game looks fine, but not great. Played pretty well, when it wasn't disconnecting. I guess the way they made the file so small was by hosting all the courses and stuff on their servers.

Those day one reviews are crap, at least for the Xbox One.
