Never had that behavior, but have you tried uninstalling from the Storage settings? It's another way beside the wiggle.

I had this problem some time ago! Turns out I had blocked deleting apps (so my toddler wouldn't mess the iPad up) and forgotten about it. Sound familiar?

Also, since other IOS browsers have to pretty much be re-skinned Safari, does the blocking carry over to them too?

Apple made an updated version of their WebKit rendering engine available to developers in iOS 9. The new engine supports content blockers, and obviously Safari itself uses the new engine, but most other iOS browsers are still using the old engine. Those that switch to the new engine will pick up support for blockers along with it. Presumably Apple will eventually make the new engine compulsory, but at the moment most apps that use WebKit haven't switched yet.

Apparently this isn't true. Firefox just released a stand alone content blocker that, unfortunately, can only work in Safari. They recently released Firefox on IOS but I still get those annoying redirects to the Appstore.

"“This was not our choice—Apple has chosen to make content blocking unavailable to third-party browsers on iOS,” Mozilla said."

Edit: I really don't like Safari so this is a major downer. It has been choking on Amazon's website on my iPad and 6s lately.

I have some coupons for Scanbot Pro (great scanner app, normally $4,99), PM me if you're interested! The following are available:

one coupon for a free copy
two coupons for 60% discount

Man finding files on an iphone is non-intuitive as hell.

Yup.

Files in iOS are stored along with the app that created them. If the app supports iCloud Drive you can enable the file viewer by going to Settings - iCloud Drive - Show on Home Screen.

Else, I recommend a cloud storage app such as OneDrive or Google Drive.

Airmail is out now, for $4.99
Curious if anyone went for it and how they like it.

The Verge has an article about it.

Not showing up yet in my AppStore, but after reading the article, I'm super interested. I too would love to hear any hands on if someone jumped on it.

I tried it and it ends up having the same problem most mail programs have for me: total lack of workflow for multi-folder mail.

I use procmail to sort all my mail into folders on the server side, but all of these fancy mail management apps seem to only handle 1 or more "inboxes" and attempting to get things from any other mail folder that might have new mail is a chore. :/

Probably fine for most people, but not me...

Anyone use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint on an Apple iPad Mini 4?

On the road, I use mainly Outlook, Word and show PowerPoints. I was wondering if I could lighten my load and just carry a Mini for those tasks. Any thoughts?

Not on a Mini, but I use those MS apps on my iPhone and iPad Air all the time. They are fantastic for what they are, but keep in mind that they are definitely mobile apps and are limited compared to their desktop versions.

They have all the basic features of editing/saving/displaying docs. Word shines with a bluetooth keyboard attached. I can only say that I've not edited or created anything in Powerpoint. I've only used it to display presentations which works great.

9to5mac's take on it

Anybody using Gboard, Google's keyboard, yet? It's US-only for now, and I admit I created a US iTunes account just to download it yesterday, pretty much just for its emoji-search feature. Instant access to animated GIFs is also a plus, but might end up in divorce depending on my level of restraint.

Also you can search Google directly from the keyboard, share results with a tap (or two), and has "glide typing".

I'm not using it yet, but I'm going to take it for a spin now.

I typed "poo" in a text and Gboard's predictive text bar showed me the poo emoji. A+

Oh cool. Will try that out. Have a us account already because app availability in South Africa sucks.

I've tried the Microsoft keyboard, and while it's cool that it can be configured to sit in an arc across a corner of the phone instead of flat across, I didn't like actually using it. I like that this Google keyboard retains the original key layout and spacing. Definitely gonna give it a try.

If someone's looking for a good Reddit app, check out Antenna. It cuts out a lot of clutter that other apps suffer from and it's FAST!

I've been given an iPad Pro, 9". Until now, I was happy (ish) pootling along with my original chunky iPad. I used it for YouTube, basically.

Now I've got this Pro and I've got no idea how to take advantage of it. It feels like too much power and I can't return it (I've checked). It feels wrong to just use it for YT.

Any suggestions on things it can do? I like to stream on Twitch and I've been to a pottery class, which was interesting. ANything to do with pottery or glazes? Maybe a good sketch app? On that note, is the pencil worth it?

It's a little complicated, but probably.

I've ordered the pencil. Now I need to find something cool to do with it.

It's an amazing comic book reader, because it gives you nice oversized pages. The normal ipad screen was a bit smaller than a normal page, so sometimes words were hard to read.

It's also great for streaming sports or any kind of video. In the US, I frequently use it to watch two sporting events at the same time, with the other one on my TV.

But for me, comics and video is just about all I do with it. It's a great content consumption device.

PDFs as well. Assuming you use DropBox, in the iOS DropBox app you can indicate which files should be stored on the device. I have all my RPG books in DropBox, for example, and use the iPad to reference them when playing. The large format is also good for boardgames.

To clarify, it's not a 12" model. It's the most recent 9.7" one. I use Good Reader for PDFs. I hadn't consdiered comic books though. Even with a smaller screen it might be worth it.

Until I got my Pro, I was very happy reading comics on a 9.7". I used to pack ten big, heavy trade paperbacks for travel. Now I can easily carry 30 times that on my iPad. The future is awesome!

Prices on the Comixology app are crazy. I will download it in case there are any real bargains from time to time, but I can't see how it can compete with buying secondhand.

I signed up for the Comixology Unlimited free trial on my iPad 3 (yep, still using the 2012 model). My conclusion is that a 9.7" iPad is a great device for reading comics but I am not as impressed with Comixology's selection or pricing.

(Double-post! Oops!)

Don't forget to consider Marvel Unliimited, specifically its annual offering.
