Fall 2013 & Spring/Summer 2014 TV Catch-All

SHIELD was all kinds of awesome. Coulson really does a kick-a$$ job of keeping the whole thing centered and grounded. His sense of humour runs throughout the show and, as a bonus, hardly any technobabble!!

This will be staying on my DVR.

Spoiler:

looks like this Coulson is a LMD.

Thought SHIELD was fun. It had the production values of Heroes, but better writing. I'm totally okay with that.

Watched Hostages tonight, and it was not good. Not terrible, but the writing was not nearly good enough for me to buy in to this story long term. I feel confident I know what the twist is, and if they had it in this episode and moved on to a new case, it would be cool. But I'm not into watching a bunch of contrived drama that doesn't add up over the course of a series.

Majorly disappointed with SHIELD. Everything seemed forced. Forced posed shot, forced witty dialogue. Everyone, except Coulson, is too pretty. Looks like it was recorded on a $50 home camcorder. I trust Marvel and will check out a few more episodes but this was pretty terrible.

I wish we could've watched SHIELD tonight. Except we didn't get the memo that Comcast was finally switching to full digital in our area and we didn't have an adapter box

Shield was OK for me. I think I'm going to like Sleepy Hollow quite a bit following the second episode. I really dig the front woman, I think she captures her character well.

There just so many new shows with potential. My time is so screwed.

Going into the season I thought Sleepy Hollow would be terrible and I'd love SHIELD. So far, with only three total episodes combined between them to be fair, it is the exact opposite.

Probably, on the new thread. Figured we'd see how much talk the pilot got and go from there. If it takes over a whole page of the thread tomorrow might be worth a spin-off thread. I know it was already discussed a lot in the old Avengers movie thread and in last year's TV thread too. So there seems to be enough interest.

As for your spoiler, my thoughts exactly.

Ditto on the spoiler.

I enjoyed SHIELD a lot, I could care less that some of the effects didn't look as good as one would expect. It was the pilot episode and they crammed a heck of a lot of stuff in there. I expect the effects will get better, and we'll see a lot less of them in each episode until sweeps. The dialogue in that episode had Joss Whedon written all over it, and that's all that matters to me. People either love or hate his style, and I love it! Can't wait for more, I am so excited to have another Whedon series on the air.

Screw waiting I created a thread. http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/1...

Sleepy Hollow's second episode wasn't as good as the first, but it was still very good.

I'm am going to have to start culling shows, there are just way to many to keep up with! Thankfully some shows I have been watching have ended or are ending so that will help in the long run.

Count me in the number that were disappointed with SHIELD. With the exception of Coulson and Sky, most of the team are either wooden mannequins or downright unlikable. And, to be honest, Sky’s incredible hotness is probably influencing my opinion of her.

Loved the Buffy/Angel/Firefly cameos though. The wife was really disappointed when she realized that Gunn wasn’t going to be a show regular.

I think most of what makes Whedon shows Wheden shows is longer term story arcs. I fully expect this to start out as Monster of the Week for awhile, gradually bringing in more and more long term arcs and character back story.

Plus, as much as I eventually liked them, Buffy and Firefly both didn't have the best first episodes on TV, and Angel took a season or two to find it's voice. I don't even remember what I felt about Dollhouse at the time.

Re: New Girl

Spoiler:

I've always liked Winston's girlfriend. Then all of the sudden she's a cold cheating Female Doggo in this episode? Meh. Felt like a cheap throwaway plot to get rid of the character. Because she's on the show Dads now?

Alright, I'll add it to the OP list.

I had completely forgotten about her. Winston's storylines barely have any relevance anymore. Last week it was about a puzzle?

Also re: New Girl, if a cat did that, it would hurt like a motherf*cker!

On board with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I thought the second episode was really good. It had a very consistent structure both in narrative and laughs, which was my only complaint of the pilot.

Saw this article on the upcoming premiere of SNL and noticed it wasn't on the list. Anyway, new season is this Sat with Tina Fey returning as host for the premiere. So at least that episode should be pretty solid.

Wooohoooo! Person of Interest, Female Doggoes! Still going strong.

Keep your cat experiences out of here.

Hells to the yeah!

They just continually do a great job of balancing their characters and story lines with each mission of the week. Shahi and Fuscoe are such a fun team.

Person of Interest:

Spoiler:

Man, every scene with Root and the shrink was so calm and so tense. I kept waiting for her to jump up and stab him with a pen then make a break. The cold delivery at the end was awesome.

The pull-away shot is equally as chilling, as we see the Machine has mapped out all the possibilities that could go down.

My own observation:

Spoiler:

This is the only the second time we have seen the Machine trying to directly intervene in an outcome. The first time was in flashback.

Re: Machine:

Spoiler:

I got the impression there's some sort of schism there. "Her" and "Him" if you will. The Machine talking to Root might not necessarily be the one talking to our band of misfits. Perhaps something with the backup from the previous season. Or due to Machine gaining independence and some parts of it gaining autonomy. Could be a seasonal-arc thing even.

I thought the second episode of Sleepy Hollow let the show hit its stride. It really plays like a comic to me for some reason. The humor worked a little better than in the first episode or at least felt more natural. It'll be fun to see where the series goes.

Huh, more shows missing from the list. South Park debuted season 17 last night apparently.

See, I really enjoyed the pilot, but thought episode 2 wasn't as good. They really dialed back the pace of the gags.

I'm doubling down on the use of running gags becoming one of the linchpins of the show. My favorite small joke was "I don't have an SUV! Those things roll! THEY ROLL!"

I hope the Michael J. Fox show is good. It seems interesting enough for me to Tivo it.

I pretty much enjoy everything Robin Williams does even when bad. Crazy Ones pilot was a bit rocky, but i liked it.

I DVRed it but haven't watched yet. I'm an old school Williams fan.

Looks like there was also a Sleepy Hollow thread. If you guys want to continue that conversation over there, I can add it to the OP. Seems like it may be popular enough here.

Anybody watching Homeland? Season 3 premiere last night, but the wife and I missed it. Will catch it tonight sometime.

The wife and I liked The Blacklist. It is totally channeling Silence of the Lambs but it was still enjoyable.

Sad to say but Michael J Fox show did not impress my wife and I.
