iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

New iPad owner here. I can't wait to get home to start downloading games!

Hi, I'm a filthy skimmer and just received my iPad. Anybody got an easy top few recommendations that are iPad specific? I've already filled my iPhone with a ton of games, so I'm just really looking for iPad specific or "HD" titles that make use of the larger screen real estate or games that aren't available on the smaller iPhone/iPod Touch platforms. I've already purchased (for the third time) Plants vs Zombies, and Angry Birds (for the 2nd time), what else has tickled anyone's fancy?

I grabbed Civ Rev, Dominion, and Geometry Wars, in addition to Angry Birds.

Hard for me to keep track of what I have that is iPad specific unless it says HD. Just taking a look at mine:

Labyrinth HD
Space Station HD
Real Racing HD
Dungeon Hunters HD
Fieldrunners

Joystiq just published an article on 5 "must have" iPad games:
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/28/your-first-five-ipad-games/

Mirror's Edge
Real Racing HD
Dungeon Hunter HD
Small World
Pinball HD

These are the games that I have picked up thus far:

Warpgate
PvZ HD
Minigore HD
NOVA HD
Zombieville USA HD
Harbour Master
Foosball HD
Air Hockey
Mirror's Edge HD
Galcon Fusion

My essential apps are:

Pulse
Reuters Pro
Pages
Dropbox
Goodreader
Comiczeal 4
iBook

I have a lot more, but these are the ones that I use.

I know that Apple are not allowing native transfer of files over Bluetooth, but I found an app called clipprinter that allows you to transfer stuff over Bluetooth to an iPhone or whatever if you copy and paste it. It's better than nothing, but a .doc with pictures winds up as 3 files: the text, the photos and the embedding for the photos.

I don't have a 3G iPad, and want to have the option of occasionally transferring from pages on the iPad to word on a PC. I don't always have wifi access. Does anyone have any ideas? In was getting along fine with mifi on a jail broken 3G iPhone, but I got a 4 last week, and don't want to jailbreak it for a year anyway

It's funny -- I'm a game addict, but I haven't really thought too much about using the iPad for games. My wife (not a gamer) downloaded a Mahjongg game right away and she really likes that, but the only games I've considered are PvZ and Real Racing HD. Oh, and Civ Rev, but I'm not sure about that one.

Otherwise, I LOVE the iPad for browsing the web and reading ebooks. It actually gets me away from the my desk once in a while, which is nice.

Just proof-of-concept right now, but still cool:

Mmm. Me likey! I had really wished that functionality was native out of the gate.

Anyone found a good way to read spoilers on these forums with an iPad? Right now I copy and paste into the comment box but perhaps there is a better way.

I just press "quote" for effectively the same thing.

D'oh! That could have saved me some time. Thanks for that.

Small World update is out, now with solo play.

Oh! Lovely! I've been playing "solo" to learn the powers and races a little better, but this will be a little more enjoyable!

Osmos (the recent IGF winner) just came out for the iPad and only $4.99, woot!

I picked it up last night and it's highly highly recommended if you want to experience a game that feels totally at home on the iPad. The fact that it wasn't originally designed for a touch interface blows my mind . Great controls and gorgeous graphics.

I've only played a few levels so far but after zooming out on the second level (i think that was the one, it was the first one with a lot of orbital movement) and being greeted with a great sense of scale, I can already tell this is going to be one of the goto games when asked for recommendations from new iPad owners.

I grabbed Osmos yesterday, and am loving it. I would definitely recommend this as an experience.

I played the PC version of Osmos, and liked it. I'm gonna grab the iPad version when I get home.

Anyone played Monkey Island 2?

I'm playing Monkey Island 2 right now. Never played it or the original back in the day. Enjoying the leisurely pace and the humor.

Thinking of getting Osmos. Looks like something my 3 year-old daughter my enjoy as well.

Touch Arcade's reporting that Tower Madness HD is free today for the iPad. I'm the guy always checking out the freebies, so I'll definitely be giving this a whirl.

Also, if any other iPad owners have young children my son is addicted to I Love Fireworks. It's not a game, it's a fireworks show toy. Wherever you tap, a firework appears. Longer tap, bigger boom. Draw a line and you get a trail leading up to the explosion when you lift your finger. ThatKiddo now asks for it every time he sees me on my iPad. There's a free "Lite" version, I highly recommend checking it out.

Also also — iPad OS update today. Supposed to fix Wi-Fi connectivity issues (crossing fingers) and a couple other minor problems. Takes a good 5-10 minutes to do.

Fruit Ninja HD is out now as well, time to go chop some fruit!

I'm just subscribing to the thread -- who knows if there might be an iPad in my future? I can keep my wishlist up to date.

Stick Golf HD is free right now. It's pretty fun. Kind of like scorched earth or Worms, except golf. Worth the price, anyway.

Strange... Since updating my iPad OS the app store app has disappeared. And I don't see how I can download that app...

EDIT: Nevermind. I'd been messing around with preferences and had turned off the ability to purchase apps.

Haven't lost my wi-fi connection since I've gotten home!

Osmos is pretty darn cool. You can lose a couple of hours in the blink of an eye.

Has anyone been having a lot of crashes in Monkey Island?

Every time I try to save it crashes. Every time I try to load an autosave... it crashes.

Any suggestions?

Trundle HD got some good impressions on the Weekend Confirmed podcast from Jeff Cannata, and it's free for now.

EGMi is coming out with an iPad app, and it looks to be everything that magazines could be on the device.

That looks awesome.

I'm noticing there there are quite a few comic apps. I'm assuming the Marvel and DC ones lock you into using them to view comics from them, right? Does anyone have a decent scheme for comic books all ending up on the same virtual shelf?
