iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

Anyone know if Words with Friends for the iPad can communicate with players on the iPhone? Seems like it should, but I don't want to throw down the money if it won't...

Pretty sure it uses the same servers. When i downloaded the iPad 'hd' version it even remembered the games I had in progress on my iPhone.

Awesome, thanks!

Yep! Ditto Chess With Friends. The push notifications sometimes seem to get lost among the multiple devices, though.

Tried the pseudo-MMO Pocket Legends tonight and am surprisingly taken with it. Ran very smoothly and worked much better than I'd expected. Also runs on iPhone/Touch.

I think I'll be spending some time with this...if anyone wants to hold some GWJ sessions (everything is instanced and you can password protect your game) ping me...

Just spent some time with Sim City for the iPhone and found the upscaled version much more enjoyable. What other iPhone games have you played that have been easier/enjoyable on the iPad?

I second Pocket Legends. I think it would be fun with a GWJ crew.

Space Miner is great on the iPad, fun game that I spent the weekend playing.

Also Dungeon Hunter HD is pretty good, for anyone wondering.

anyone try using any of the available styluses out there? I am thinking of picking one up to sketch with (something with a finer edge than my stubby fingers nevermind the zoom capability).

Strategery is pretty good on the iPad. Don't waste time on the non-epic maps except for your fast match to see how the rules work. Anything below hard is pretty easy so turn it up to brutal before you think the game is too easy to win.

Is it? I thought it would be weird playing with the virtual D-pad on something as big as the iPad.

So I cracked yesterday and picked up an iPad. I also picked up Sam and Max "The Penal Zone". I only played through the tutorial, which was about 30 mins or so. It looks great and controls great, but I ran into some major repeated tech issues including graphic stuttering, slow down or near freezes, and sound cutting out. I hope they patch it because it works great on that platform.

I read through the thread and most of the recommendations are ipad versions of games on other platforms. Are there any other iPad specific games worth checking out?

iBlast Moki HD is only 99 cents this weekend. it's a fantastic physics based puzzle game and a steal at that price.

Looking to get a group together for a romp in Pocket Legends. Character name is Shugg.

So, if I want a wordprocessor for the iPad I should either get Pages or Pages. Is this right?

I've used Pages on my Mac rather extensively and I like it. What little I've seen of it on the iPad looks pretty good. Of course I've never really liked Microsoft Word so my perspective may not be quite normal. Still, it seems well worth the $10 they're charging.

I'm late to the We Rule party.. anyone still playing so I can get some neighbors?

GURU DON'T DO IT!!

Can anyone tell me how reading a book for a longer time, compares to other ebook readers like the kindle?
I want the iPad for what it is, but I also want a solid ebook reader and heard lots against the iPad compared to others.
Examples: it's an active screen, not as easy on the eyes like eInk. Full daylight is a no go with the iPad. It's to heave to hold
with one hand.

It *is* too heavy to hold with one hand comfortably. Sitting in your lap, or laying down propped up with one hand very doable.

I can read in full daylight with little problem, but maybe that's just me. At night I turn on the black background/white text and turn down the brightness and it's very comfortable to read.

I have read for 2-3 hours at a time with no complaint of eye fatigue (which I do get reading on a regular monitor). These long chunks were indoors.

Major advantages of the iPad kindle app over the Kindle device: Images & highlighting/note taking.

I used to be envious of my wife's Kindle. I am not anymore. Now she is envious of my iPad.

ok, thanks!

Just deleted We Rule. OVER IT!!!

It's a pretty thing, they just forgot to include any kind of game.

eInk is definitely easier on the eyes, and the dedicated reading devices are better for reading, but the iPad is a decent reader that can do many other things. The screen is active but it is a high quality screen, better than most monitors and laptop screens, so that helps with the eye strain some. Also because it is handheld you tend to move it around requiring your eyes to change their view depth, unlike looking at a monitor on a desk which is always the same depth and contributes to eye strain.

Picked up tower madness hd. Decent tower defense game but heed my warning, some of the levels are so blatantly unfair that I was ready to chuck my precious iPad across the room. Most of the levels are good fun though.

Let me apologize for this rant upfront, but I've just been dumbstruck watching horrifically designed apps like A1 Perfect Browser (and Atomic Browser) climb the charts. Personally, I've been ridiculously impressed with iCab on the iPad. It has a really polished interface that's leaps and bounds ahead of any of the other 3rd party iPad/Phone browsers (though not quite as nice and elegant as Mobile Safari).

And its feature set makes me feel at home on the iPad (I'm a firefox user with just a handful of extensions).

Some favorites:

- Has a real tab bar (disable-able) and also has the option of a pop-over version of mobile safari's visual tab select

- It feels like it loses the cache of other tabs a lot less frequently per session than mobile safari.

- It has an incredible (optional) feature that will automatically open links in background tabs that are from a different domain than your current page. This works fantastically for link collecting while browsing GWJ and google reader.

- Can download (and cache) files and then open them in other apps.

- Has the ability to save bookmarks offline and also has limited 'plugin' support in the form of modules (think built in bookmarklets).

I originally found out about iCab through this great blog post at The Apple Blog which goes over the features more eloquently than what I just typed up :D.

I feel like iCab really should be the default go-to browser if someone wants something a bit more complex than mobile safari and not nearly as ugly as A1 or Atomic, I mean just compare these two interfaces:

Is Pages the best word processing option at the moment? I know that rabbit wasn't entirely convinced by it.

Anyone looking for a Google Reader app, Reeder is incredible.

Just played a couple of rounds of the fantastically ridiculous Multipong with the wife and its pretty fantastic and free currently (they say until the 13th). It's pong + powerups + up to 4 players and its a lot more fun than it should be :).

Keltis Oracle is a nice iPad implementation of a Reiner Knizia game, a sequel to Keltis (closely relate to Lost Cities, the boardgame). Nice version, with AI and single iPad multiplayer.
