iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

I dread games with so many in app purchases possibilities.

Just coming to post this. I have had it on my watch list for a long time. It only got a "Good" on Appspy but I how can I resist free?

EMPIRE: The Deck Building Strategy Game for $0.99 (iOS Universal)

It's good enough that I've actually been gradually picking up the IAPs and replaying the game with them. The base game is just fine, though. (My first playthrough I added the two new territories, then for the second playthrough I added some of the extra classes. I may buy the rest of the IAPs and do a third playthrough. I've been having enough fun that it's worth it.)

I can't wait to play 1-2 levels before something new and shiny comes out and I get distracted....which is my MO with ios games...

Yeah, I've put in a little time with MPQ, and I agree that it's one of the better Match 3 games I've played - even better than the original PQ, with an actual story, rotating events, interesting unlocks...

But with XCOM, Asphalt 8, The Room, and now FTL... I can't say I'm playing a *lot* of this...

I've put a stupid amount of time into it (new parent - one handed games that can be played in 5 minute incremements are my jam right now). It's pretty good - the ruleset of powers makes it feel like you can actually make tactical decisions during a match, and getting a combo of powers working is *satisfying*.

Games Workshop has used the "cheap base base game with exorbitant DLC" model for over thirty years.

Fair point and I only hear good things so far.

I'm also a new parent and have found the iPad to be a such a great tool to have around. My wife and I got it just before Ms. Poop Factory came around and it's been great. Between turn-based games and the Kindle app I've had a lot of fun with it, especially during feedings.

Are you kidding me? The iPad has litterally been my main mode of gaming lately. All I've been playing is FTL since it was released last week, and before that, I was reading or surfing. Total lifesaver these past couple of weeks. And the boppy pillow makes breastfeeding and propping up the iPad so much easier.

I have been enjoying it but I do wish there was a way to have everyone walk together when not in combat. I hate forgetting and leaving someone behind, then combat starts and I have to hurry them up to everyone else.

Hearthstone is now out for iPad. I've had it downloaded on my pc for ages but haven't touched it because... the pile.

Like FTL, this seems like the right device for this type of game. Anyone check it out yet?

Our very own Cory "DemiurgeManagingEditorofPCGamer" Banks has done the hard work for us once again:

It's flawless on my iPad Air, there are lots of reports of it being choppy on iPad 3 and 2, and mini's

On an ipad 2, it's the menu transitions that are choppy, but it seems fine once you're in gameplay/deckbuilding/etc. So it's kind of annoying, but playable for me.

It's real real buggy on my iPad 3. The menus are choppy - that I can deal with, but the game just hangs a lot. It's happened almost every session I've played (about 4 of 5 times). Sometimes it's right at the beginning, 'touch to start' never starts the game. It's happened when trying to pick the next match after a game, and my last game clicking 'end turn' didn't do anything.

Not a good experience and not what I'd expect from a Blizzard title.

This is probably the thread I should have posted in because I now have an iPad, not an iPhone. Anyone try Hitman Go yet?

I haven't, but there's a thread at work going round about it and the impressions are quite positive.

Your 'work' place sounds awesome

Before we got acquired and put on corporate's email we had a lot of "extra curricular" email groups: Biking, Climbing, Snowboarding, Golf, Poker, Gaming (which doubled as the bar run), Music, etc. It's ironic considering they mostly had the same members anyway.

I miss being the Exchange admin.

Yomi is out as well and it's an outstanding implementation of a great and absurdly expensive card game. The tutorial is fantastic and they clearly put a lot of love and care in to this one. I haven't tried playing online yet because I'm a total noob, but so far I'm very impressed. If anyone else gets this, let me know, I'd love to have a sparring partner!

Oh, and Knights of Pen and Paper is free this weekend on iOS.

General question -

Should we make a combined "iPhone and iPad Games" thread? I don't think anything really comes out anymore that isn't universal and I feel silly posting in both threads to make sure everyone sees something. tuffalobuffalo's Hitman GO post made me think about it.

It just seems like it would be easier.

Any strong opinions one way or the other?

(and of course I will have to cross post this so everyone can see it...:) )

I've wondered for a long time why there isn't just an iOS general thread. It would make discussing these games much easier.
