iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

I should clarify that my ipad 2 is still on ios 6.X, so my upgrade/don't upgrade decision is based on whether 7.1 will be slower than 6.X. Most things I've read suggest that 7.1 is better than 7.0, but both are still sluggish compared to 6.X on the ipad 2.

iPad2 on 7.1 and I've stopped using it for my general browsing and messaging because they keyboard lags enough to be annoying on a touchscreen. I touch a text field. I wait a second. I start typing and it STILL misses the first two letters. That said I started another playthrough of Space Miner and that is still fantastic. I have enough purchased content on the iOS platform that unless they come up with a virtualized interface for regular computers soon I'll probably need to offload my current tablet and go for newer hardware. Looking at the resale prices for my model I may have missed the boat by about a year.

iPad 2 as well, so anything that gets me moving a little better now I've gone 7.0 is appreciated.

I guess I need to upgrade before I begin my Masters in ernest again next year, it was, for me, a light laptop (as LarryC suggested).

I have a fair range of visual tools too, so I'm guessing I'm going to really get into the additional resolution, working on 'larger canvases' more representatively, and exporting larger files.

Out if interest, 'Paper' currently outputs a 'whatever iPad2.0' resolution file, will the newer iPad automatically output the page at the higher resolution?

Paper by 53? I only ask because I have an iPad Air, and I would be willing to test it for you if you'd like

Yep, that be the one!

Check here. That's a straight export to Camera Roll from Paper, upload to Dropbox, move to public, copy link.

Bingo, thanks for that!

athros, your image came up as 2048x1536px

When I did the same on the iPad 2, the image was only sent out at 1024x768px

Appreciate the enabling, now I'll just wait on an 'opportunistic pricing' and take it from there.

It's hard to stay on blackout for FTL: iPad. Loved the PC version so much I don't even want to know what the new stuff is.

It annoys me no end now to use the default Apple keyboard after I've used SwiftKey. It's not just the swiping tech, either. SwiftKey allows you to make a thumb-sized keyboard off to the right or left so you can still use it on a big tablet. And it splits the keyboard intelligently for two-thumb typing. Apple's split covers key areas of the tablet. Whose bright idea was it to obscure the writing field with the keyboard?!?

Any KB suggestions on iOS?

This thread has basically become my 'check and see where FTL is at' thread. Can't wait.

My wife does a LOT of typing for her Masters Degree, and she has found a good BlueTooth keyboard really is the best option.

She sported one of those built in case/keyboard numbers for a while, but has since returned to a sturdy, but light, outer casing and a very light, portable, keyboard.

Maneuvering around the text with arrow keys, etc, is a lot easier for her, and it allows some very unique-yet-effective text book/keyboard/display placements. I've seen her with five or six resources in front of her, keyboard on top of those, with the iPad sitting 'out of harms way' about arms length in front of her again.

I know that's probably not the answer you were looking for, but it seems to be the best option that she has found so far. YMMV of course.

Isn't it still such that your only options are the stock on-screen keyboard or a physical one? I'm considering switching to the next iPhone when my upgrade comes up but losing Swype is a big part of the decision.

Unfortunately those are your only options.

Apple still hasn't really exposed the keyboard backend to allow for something like SwiftKey / Swype across all apps.

You can split the iOS keyboard. When it's visible just hold the hide keyboard button and choose split. Of course it would be nice to have some position options with it but, baby steps I guess.

I'm trying that right now and nothing happens. iPad 4, latest iOS.

That worked for me (I tried it in the App Store) BUT - you have to slide your finger to the "Split" choice. If you miss it, the menu won't come up again until you hide and recall the keyboard.

The key word is "intelligently." When iOS 7 slits the keyboard, it also automatically puts the split keyboard right up on the middle of the screen, obscuring the typing field. It's stupid.

On a more positive note, Civ Rev HD is playable on the iPad Air. I still don't like the way the graphics look, but it generally won't display the frame rate drops and jerky jankiness on an iPad 2.

Best save point ever!

Deer God from Crescent Moon Games

Lords of Waterdeep is $2 off at $5.

Do you guys recommend this?

No, my iPad keyboard absolutely will not split. I've attempted both methods detailed here and here. I've tried it both in Chrome, which I'm using now, and in the App Store app.

YES! The ONLY problem is no expansion.

It even has good AI.

Sadly it's the powercreep module from Skullport and not the interesting module with the corruption mechanic. Oh well.

Plus you have update it to keep playing vanilla games too

A little disappointed at the length of Republique. The first episode took me only an hour and a half and I only then realized that this was an episodic game. Oh well. I don't think I will be buying the future episodes. The AI is pretty dumb and the camera to camera control gets a bit annoying after awhile.

Glad I bought it when it was on sale.

Little Big Adventure coming out tonight!

wenty years after its original PC release, the classic adventure game Little Big Adventure is being re-released on the App Store at midnight tonight.

Little Big Adventure follows the story of Twinsen, an inhabitant of Citadel Island. His world is ruled over by the evil - and oddly named - dictator Dr. FunFrock. When Twinsen starts to have dreams about the destruction of his planet, the doctor throws him into an insane asylum.

Taking control of Twinsen, it's up to you to help his escape from captivity, and discover his destiny as protector of his world.

I loved the game but so far the game I have bought for nostalgia haven't been ones I have really finished. Perhaps they were better in my memory.

If you saw Billy Joel and Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, you might be interested in the app, Loopy HD. It's on sale for %50 ($3.99) at the moment.

Release date: April 3

iPad version will be $10
