iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

Ubisoft has a new CCG for the iPad called Might & Magic: Duel of Champions.

You need a UPlay account to play it. It is ok so far, though I'm still working through the tutorial. Looks like you can get in game gold to buy packs ( though the gold price is HUGE ). I'll play the free aspects of it, but have no interest in any of the inApp stuff ( gold and other currency to buy new decks/packs/etc ).

Becareful when choosing your starting faction, that is the deck you get stuck with, and for me, I accidently chose one.

If you want to friend me in game, my name is Cragmyre

I took my N7 to work today instead of my iPad and tethered , just to see if there were any improvements in the timer since I had last tried it. It seems that the iPhone is less inclined to let the connection drop after a few minutes than it used to be, but I'd forgotten how much of a drain it is on the phone's battery.

When I take my third gen 3G iPad to work, I turn 3G on and disable WiFi. By bedtime (reversing those settings when I get home) I usually have 60% left on the battery. With my phone tethered to the N7, it dropped to 60% from 90% in 2 hours. I assume that it would be the same with a Wi-Fi only iPad.

Since I need the phone to be charged rather than a tablet, I think that I'd generally go for a 3G tablet rather than rely on tethering. As ever, it's an individual thing.

I just want to apologize for anyone on my GameCenter list. I accidently sent out challenges from Elements: Broken Lands. I thought it was going to let me select who I wanted to include, and instead it did my entire list.

Well, is it any good?

I like it, though combat isn't all that thrilling. You can see how much damage you are doing, and if you have cards that are Epic ( purple ), Legendary ( orange), or Fabled ( red ) they have special abilities that randomly go off. But combat is mainly just tapping on the screen. I do like that you can earn in game coin to purchases packs of cards, and I've even gotten some Epic cards from doing that ( not Legendary or Fabled as of yet ). Of course, if you spend real money you can improve your odds by buying Premium packs.

The cards that you get are either creatures or equipment. You can boost equipment by imbuing them with creatures you don't need, and the equipment will gain a percentage of the stats. You can then equip your creatures ( not sure how to unequip, if that is even possible ) with up to 4 items, thus improving the stats on those cards. Cards can also be evolved if you have two of the same. All of this costs in game coin, but you can earn that through quests, or even selling your cards within the marketplace ( basically an auction house ). There is also an Arena where you can play against random opponents, or friends ( by using their code ), but I haven't delved into that aspect yet.

Here is the Game Guide

I'm enjoying the game, but then again, I also enjoyed Guardian Cross - though I do find this game much better.

edit: They do implement an energy system that refreshes over time, or you can use a refill ( you start with 2 and can buy more for real money ). The refresh rate isn't too bad, but for those that want to keep playing, this restriction will easily become a burden.

Has anyone played both Magicka and Battleheart? I enjoyed Battleheart, wondering if Magicka is basically a clone or if theres more to it.

So I don't think anyone took my advice on rad soldiers before, but it's still a great single, and multiplayer strategy game, and they just added another full campaign FOR FREE to the game. Check it out.

We're a lazy bunch, you'll get more success if you give us a link to work with

Apologies if that's the wrong version. If it's not, how intrusive/necessary are the IAPs?

Good link! And not that intrusive at all, it will coax you to buy stuff after games for your guys but that can be done with in game money earned, and as long as you are smart with it you never have to buy anything with real money to progress in the game (or at least I didn't have to.)

Ok, so I just got an iPad 1 from my Dad who wasn't using it any more since he upgraded. Are there a lot of games that won't work on the ipad 1? Also, I want to use this as an educational tool for the kids as well as games. So with that in mind, are there any good apps that can help the kids? Like some good world explorer apps or maths, language apps etc?

Any recommendations?

Go to Mashable, they have several weeks worth of top apps for kids, just google it. They do a good job with description, skills, and age. That's how I get most for my youngest.

Or wait for someone to post the link - thanks.

Thanks guys. I'll take a squiz now.

Also, what about the limitations of the ipad1? Am I missing out on much?

Biggest issue would be processing power and resolution of display. I have an iPad 2 that I bought as it was being run out, and I have saved myself any uncontrollable envy upgrade issues by NOT looking at a retina display enabled iPad 3.

Some of the new iOS stuff is not compatible with iPad 1, so check the descriptions before you 'update all'. Other than that, you're in a better place than before you had one, so the only outlook is skyward from here.

I didn't know about Mashable - thanks.

Here are some my son loves:

The Super Why! and Daniel Tiger apps

Elmo loves ABCs (this and Super Why got him to learn the alphabet at age 2)

Drawing Pad

PBS Kids

Does anyone here play Simpsons: Tapped Out? I am ashamed to admit that I do. If you are mortified to admit that you play too, add HzMyBrain to your Origin friends list.

I'll never tell!

I WOULD NEVER PLAY THAT...(goes over to ipad to add new friend)

I've been playing Tiny Tower for months, I NEVER paid for any microtransactions, I had 1 floor left to build with 3 stars on all my other floors then my son stood on the iPad and now it's gone.

In a way I'm glad because somehow that obsessive compulsive act of checking that thing every day was doing something bad to my soul.

What is this tapped out you speak of?

Spoiler:

I added you as well

Haven't run across this one - what are your thoughts on the game?

Bought it and a 6 month Lite Subscription (1 month: $1, 6 months: $5).

First: the Lite Subscription has limits: mainly, you can only get to Level 3 in you licenses. If you opt to pay for a full subscription ($9.99 per month) your account is unlocked fully. As far as I can tell, it is a 1:1 translation to the iPad. My 4/4/2/2 character works great (not that I can level in combat and light weapons).

I'm still testing the control schemes. Vendetta Online is a MMO, and it's been around for more than a decade (if I remember right). The account transition is seamless between my iPad and my laptop. So far, I hate the "tilt to steer" control option. The virtual sticks are ok. I need more time with it though.

Has anyone else picked up Final Fantasy V on the iPad? I like it, but scrolling through abilities in battle is awkward. I have an iPad 2, so I'm wondering if you don't need to scroll through abilities on a higher resolution iPad.

Looks like someone is using FFV as leverage for enabling an iPad 3 purchase

Spoiler:

I would totally do the same thing.

I played TT pretty much every day until I ran out of businesses to build and missions to do. I was just building empty floors as you can't have duplicates and they just don't add new missions or businesses very often so I went ahead and zapped it off my Ipad. It was fun while it lasted though!

Heh. I just, you know, would like to know if it's better on a newer iPad.

Looks like The Last Express is on sale for $1.99. I've been meaning to play it for years now. Maybe now is the time.

I've been meaning to play that since I followed that link a minute ago. No time like now.
