iPad Games (and Apps) Catch All

Already mentioned in the PAX story, but interesting enough to post here too: a (virtually complete) port of the recent XCom game is coming to iOS

Sounds like a really good fit to me :-)

The Polygon writeup mentions "Premium Pricing", I have no idea if that means Plants vs. Zombies (5$) pricing or Final Fantasy Dimensions (20$) pricing.

Not sure I'd pay 20 for it, since I've played through it twice already on the PC, but would easilly be worth 5 or even 10 bucks.

I'm guessing it's closer to $20 than $5. I'm also guessing their target audience isn't double dippers.

I think the statement on pricing was pretty clear in that you should expect to pay the same on iOS as you would on PC or Xbox.

Interesting. I'll gladly pay $50 for it, but it better be as complete as the PC and XBox versions. I'll be waiting for reviews.

I think that was the whole point the guy was trying to make, it's supposedly 100% of the PC/Xbox game right down to the art assets.

My concern would be with just how much space that bugger is going to require. X-Com sits at ~13GB on my PC, so I'd have to assume that a 100% faithful port including art would need approximately the same on an iPad. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm constantly having to pick things to delete as it is without having that kind of huge program to deal with.

That'll be a no-go on my phone, that's for sure. I have a 64 gig iPad, but man, that would put a hurting on it.

I'm not scared off of a $50 price point. I'd rather have deeper iOS games and pay for them, then not have them. There's also waiting for a sale.

It would likely not need the same amount of space. The assets will probably not be as high quality.

Edit: But it will still likely come in at a size that's too large for my iPad.

Well, on the new iPads, they'd probably need higher resolution assets than the console versions, right?

See, at even $20, I'd be willing to double-dip for a mobile version (assuming it'd even fit on a 13gb ipad, which I'd assume it would, because they're not stupid). If they decide to go for a full $50 price point, they're insane, and I'm back out.

While the game my be worth $50, and I certainly paid that the first time I bought it, they're going to be releasing it into an ecosystem that seriously balks at anything over a $10 price point, and goes bonkers at anything over $20. At $50, you'll be selling it to a small subset of people, and I can't imagine you cover your development costs with that.

It's certainly going to be an interesting experiment in what the app market will bear.

If you don't know what Brogue is, go here.

It's one of the best Roguelike's out there, and it finally got ported to the iPad (2,3,4 and Mini), with the creator's blessing, and it's free.

App Store Link.

Highly, highly recommended if you're looking for a great Roguelike. There are some slowdowns, and some of the menus take a bit to pop up. It's all being worked on.

All I can say is: hell yes.

Super cool about Brogue. I tried out a handful of roguelikes on the iPad a few months ago and didn't find anything that really grabbed me.

Strategy & Tactics: World War II was just released. Evidently it was being developed as a Hearts of Iron release, but they had that IP pulled from them.

Seems kind of interesting, but the interface is terrible and the complete lack of any stats on the units makes it a guessing game. Is 3 tanks better than 6 infantry? How can you figure it out apart from blindly attacking?

The developers appear to be saying this was intentional over here:

Unless I'm missing something?

I feel the same way. Without a manual, I have no idea what's going on. Also, without stats, I don't know if I should build 6 regular units or wait and spend more on 4 elite units, etc. This game has so much potential, but right now, it's not really scratching that strategy itch.

Sounds like a true Paradox game.

Actually, it sounds like that's why it's *not* a Paradox game. Their quality has improved immensely in the last few years.

DON'T SEND ME CHALLENGES. Enough stupid popups about stickman golf or whatever already.

I drop them off the list if I get more than one. I detest the spam.

No idea if it's any good, but there's a side-scrolling Magicka game out now

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/magi...

It looks almost exactly like Battleheart, which I really enjoyed, but could just play that again if its too cloney. Does anything set it apart?

The reviews look pretty good from a quick Google - basically a cutdown 2D version of the PC game, but still good fun.

It's Magicka?

{insert mildly humorous version of some meme with the words "not enough!" here}

An app that looks interesting is CardWarden. It is an iPad app that lets you import images of cards and then randomize and play just about any card game. I learned about it at the iOS news section of BoardGameGeek. There is a lot of talk about it within the comments as well, including posts from the developer.

I'll probably pick it up, and maybe even use it ( see my signature ). The app costs $1.99 and is for iPad only.

** edit: I found a CardWarden tutorial on Youtube as well.

Whoa, thanks. I'm buying CardWarden right now before it gets bogged down and removed for piracy / copyright crapola.

Hey guys, not sure how many are playing it (although it is the top grossing app so some must be) but I did make a GWJ clan for Clash of Clans. It is invite only to keep out the riff-rag. If you want in send me a message or friend me up, I'm Mndocjoe on Game Center.

Also to get an invitation to the GWJ clan you need to upgrade your clan castle. FYI

Can anyone recommend any "pc quality" western RPGs? (Preferably turn-based. I'm not really a fan of virtual sticks).

I already have Bastion and Baldur's Gate for pc. I'm shocked there aren't more Fallout-style games for iOS. Is the Bards Tale any good?

I decided to pick it up for this very same reason. I haven't fooled around with it yet, but I figure I'll try and take pictures of my Lord of the Rings LCG cards and see how it goes. If anyone else has this, I'd be curious how your projects turn out.

Clan castle upgraded and ready

OK guys looking for more Goodjers for the Clash of Clans. You know you want to!
