Any other good coop or couples' games we should try?

Fingle.

Hey everyone! I'm looking for a good ipad game for a business trip, something involved, Strategy/RPG/Board Game that I can play solo while stuck in my hotel room for 4 days. Any ideas?

RPG: Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition
Board Game: Summoner Wars or Elder Sign - Omen
Strategy/RPG: Final Fantasy Tactics.

Kingdom Rush

Kingdom Rush is a great choice.

I've been playing Cook, Serve, Delicious (http://www.vertigogaming.net/blog/?portfolio=cook-serve-delicious) recently and I'm totally hooked. There's definitely some strategizing and prioritizing involved, but it's not really a strategy game.

Would Kingdom Rush still be a good choice if I've played through the flash version?

How long ago? For me, I have played through the campaign at least three times on the iPad a few months apart each. In the past year they have added new twists, like heroes and an in-game store where you can buy boosts with gems that drop from the battles. And they have added some pretty hard extra battlefields for once you beat the campaign.

Battle of the Bulge. It's a wargame, and a really good one that was made specifically for the ipad, so it works beautifully.

Thanks for the info guys! Gonna grab Kingdom Rush and give it another go. I think I'll also try summoner wars & battle of the bulge.

Too bad there aren't any new original strategy RPGs as good as FFT on the iPad yet...

Guys and gals - I've got a "gotta catch 'em all" itch. Any good, quality Poke-like or Monster Hunter-ish games out there on iPad I should be aware of?

I'm still dealing with a "gotta catch 'em all" itch. The salves, they do nothing.

I got some quality time out of Dragon Island Blue... before the 'squad' grew to unmanageable sizes and the Evolution progressions a bit pointless when there wasn't any appreciable benefit that I could detect to 'raising' your own high tier critter, and simply capturing one from the wild. The 'souls' aspect is completely lost on me since 'upgrading' a soul consumes the previous one with no lasting benefit that I could detect.

The early game was quite fun and addictive though.

Cook, Serve, Delicious is super addicting and a lot of fun, full of personality, it is like a mature version of Diner Dash. It is so addicting to the point where my girlfriend, out of curiosity, started playing and played until 1 AM on Sunday. She isn't a gamer.

Yeah, BotB is great. I played it a few times on my 14 hour plane flights to and from Japan, and it definitely delivers.

Checked it out, oh look, I already own it

Promptly downloaded it, and enjoying the crap out of it so far.

Give a look at Puzzle & Dragons, which has a pokemon like feel, but battles utilize match-3 mechanic. It's a free to play, so nothing to lose taking a look.

I played a game called Angel Salvation for a while that, as far as I can tell, has exactly the same mechanics as Puzzle & Dragons. Just with an aesthetic that has much less cute and much more spikes, fangs, glowing eyes and large swords (note, not making any value judgement about one aesthetic versus the other here, I just played the one I found first). I liked the way the matching mechanics worked a lot, with the tile/gem you drag displacing gems along the path so that each turn becomes a test of what bizarre path you can trace out (and memorize so that you can drag your finger over it fast enough) to get a large combo. I played pretty much until I had worked through all the content, so I must have enjoyed it :-p

I've never played it, but my sister and brother in law are big Dragonvale fans and that's been described to me as poke-like.

Also, anyone notice 10000000 was released on Steam? Not sure if the mouse "feels" as good on that game vs. a touchscreen.

Yeah, I think it's the best Tower Defense game for the IOS out there. At least I've yet to find one that beats it.

Unless you count PvZ, I agree. It's fantastic.

PvZ is the king, but if you want cuteness, my wife put oodles of hours into Jelly Defense.

Any thoughts onnTotal war Battles?

No love for Fieldrunners?

Fieldrunners 2 could be the best TD game on iOS, in a generation. It loads soooo slow on my iPad 3 that it's not worth playing. Also, some of the free-to-play conventions they added hurt the game.

Total War Battles: Shogun is alright. I tried it at PAX-E and was surprised how good the interface was, so I bought it on the release day and put several hours into it. It kind of reminds me of Patapon but without the music. For me, though, the bad outweighs the good. The combat and units are fun and interesting, and the light RTS elements can be excting. And I adore the art style, just as with real TW Shogun 2. For me, though, there are too many gameplay systems I don't enjoy: a fit-your-buildings mechanic that doesn't quite feel right, a coin-earning and upgrading-spending mechanism, and although the combat and puzzles are fun, the difficulty ramps up quickly after the first few levels. Overall, it's a fun, cute, smooth RTS strategy game, but not the phenomenal experience I wanted. Maybe it's perfect for you, so check out some gameplay videos before paying (unless it's $3 or less in which case who cares?)

Angry Birds Rio HD is free this week for anyone that doesn't have it yet. I happened to own a couple of different flavors of Angry Birds, but not this one, so the price was right for me

Help me out....I can't find a Catch-all for Shenandoah's Battle of the Bulge here on GWJ? Is there someone with more GWJ and strategy cred willing to make one?

Go ahead and do it if you want one, there's no need for cred.

Says you. If Keithustus starts it I'm not going to bother reading it.
